Party in Jakarta
I am planning on going to Jakarta mostly to party in the dance clubs and bars. Ramadan begins on Friday, July 20th, and I am trying to plan my trip for the middle of July. I have a couple questions:
1. Will the week before Ramadan be a big party week?
2. Are there any big party nights leading up to Ramadan?
3. Will the party scene be pretty dead during Ramadan?
Thanks!
George

Trip report and FAQ - Heritage Vigan, Philippines
Hi everyone.
I have finally managed to record my Vigan trip (blog with photos here) . The trip was long, and the stay was satisfying. Vigan is very different from all the other places in the Philippines, and in this country of sun, beaches and KTV, Vigan stands out as a contrast. Walking along it's cobbled streets with only the background "clippety clop" of calesas (horse carriages) felt like walking in a dream, in a Spanish colonial town of the Far East, frozen in the 1930's.
2) How to Get here
3) Exploring Vigan
4) Villa Angela - the ancestral mansion where we stayed
5) Other places to stay in Vigan
6) View from a Calesa
7) Getting out of Vigan
More details in my Vigan blog , but here is the gist -
1) How to reach Vigan

Travelling and staying fit
So, I love travelling, but I also want to stay in shape.
For my next vacation, I want to hit two birds with one stone and lose some weight as I enjoy the ride.
Any suggestions on how I can do this? I just have one condition, I want to do this in the Philippines. You can check my profile if you want to know why :))
I tried visiting Batangas before, with staying fit in mind, and though I had all these sporty activities, the lechon (roasted pig) didn't help :| Haha!
I also have asthma :/ Though I seem to be fine as long as I have my inhaler in hand.
So, yeah. Any suggestions?

Bali - Fold Out Bicycles
Hi everyone - I posted about a week ago about biking around Bali. We are super keen to do it! WOO!
But, another question - based off of the previous responses for the other thread - we think some of the hills can be pretty brutal! We were wondering if it is possible to bring bikes on public transport or if there is just not enough space... We were considering fold out bikes if that would be more beneficial to bring on transport.
So, is it possible to bring regular bikes on public transport? Or is it just too crammed?
Would fold out bikes be better (or necessary)? AND, could you purchase/rent fold out bikes in Bali?
THANKS for any and all info =) x

Indonesia 4 week Itenerary Advice
Hi everyone,
I am planing my first solo backpacking trip to Indonesia for 4 weeks this coming August. Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I haven't done this before. I know 4 weeks isn't a great deal of time and I don't want to feel too rushed.
I am aiming to fly to Jakarta and would like to go on to visit Bali, the Gili Islands and possibly Sulwasi for the diving. Also Lombok if this isn't pushing it time wise.
If I do fly to Jakarta I would like to visit Borobundur temple and maybe also Prambanan.
I don't have to do everything on the super cheap but I would like to spend no more than £20 per night for accommodation if this is possible. I'm fine with basic but would like it to be clean and safe and would prefer a western toilet. Is this possible or should I up my budget?
At the end of my holiday I would like to stay is a spa somwhere for 3 days or so to be pamp...

Climbing Mount Kinabalu in late January/early Feb?
Hi!
I'm planning a trip to Borneo in late Jan/early Feb
Looking for any info/advice on the weather/climate for climbing Mount Kinabalu at this time and if it's a good time to go?
I've read some reports telling me this is a dry time and so a good time to climb Mount Kinabalu, whilst others have said the rainy season lasts until March...
Has anyone climbed Mount Kinabalu in Jan and what was it like? I don't mind a little rain but may postpone the trip if it will be so slippery that the climb is less enjoyable? Does anyone also have any info on the climate at this time of year for Sabah in general?
Thank you for your help in advance!

Wheather in August
Hello everyone!
I am coming to Philippines from July the 24th till August the 27th and I'd like to know more about the weather.
How is it going to be in North and Central Luzon?
What about Palawan?
Finally, I heard that some areas of Visayas are less affected then others, so I was wandering which part you suggest to see there.
Any problem with diving with rain?! are scuba-diving centers opened?!
Thanks a lot!!!

FLYING VS SAILING: DILI TO DARWIN
Hi guys,
I'm hoping to island hop through Indonesia to Dili in East Timour and was wondering if any of you knew if it was possible to sail from Dili to Darwin?
There is alot of conflicting information on the internet and no clear answers! I have traveled from London so far without having to fly and hope I do not have to break that golden rule now.
Please help!
Cheers,
Alex
P.S I'm not afraid of flying ;)
Ramadam on Gilly Trawangan
Hi
I am travelling to Bali and then the Gilly Trawagan end of July for 2 weeks, for the first time, with some girly friends and after doing some research have seen reports that during Ramadam there are NO parties on the Gilly Isles. is this true? i can see that Bali is not affected, but the normal lively nightlife and parties on Gilly Trawangan will stop during Ramadam
can anyone confirm if this is true and if so is there anywhere else to go close by that is similiar to the beach parties on GT?
Thank you!
Miriam
Quiet cheap clean accomodation Kota Kinabalu??
Im arriving in Kota Kinabalu on Saturday and need to find somewhere to stay for a few days. Ideally Id like something in a quiet position near the beach but Im on a budget of about rm85 a night. I dont mind travelling for a little bit when I arrive to get to somewhere out of the busy town. Ive looked at somewhere called manana borneo which had hammocks and beach huts that looked nice but its a little far.
Grateful for any tips
Anya
