recently had to go to in Jogja for business for few days and decided to take a short trip to Pacitan .There are no direct buses form Jogja only travel minibuses, contacted Aneka Jaya from bali ( 0357-883657/085-228724535 )and they have 3 shuttles a day going to :Pacitan at 7 am /12 and 3 pm ) takes 3,5 hours and they pick u up from airport /hotel cost is 50000 rp good deal and service
Stayed at the Srikandi hotel (rooms 175-250 K ) basic but ok for few night, good restaurant
Hired a motorbike (50000 rp ) to visit nearby beaches, best are Klayar and Srau beach,to get there DO NOT take the sign Klayar which u see on the main road driving into Pacitan, its a hellish road ,major roadworks going on ,very steep and sharp bends and ois littered with rocks and sand...potentially dangerous esspecially when rains, definitely not for a beginner, took 1,5 hour to get there,INSTEAD in town follow sig... more »
I wouldn't normally go to these lengths, but if you need a licence to operate tours in Indonesia, last month I encountered an operator who shouldn't have one.
In brief, I bought a seat on a Mt Ijen tour from Probolinggo. En-route, one of the front brake disks cracked, then shattered. The driver and his manager pretended to fix the problem, then when further damage occurred refused to fix it properly and refused to provide a replacement vehicle. They insisted we continue in the van - we refused , but we had to pay for our own replacement vehicle. Our luggage travelled in the van but by the end, he had removed the brake disk completely and tied up the brake piston with string to disable it (this in the mountains, mind you).
I would like to place a formal complaint with the Indonesian tourist authorities, but I haven't been able to find an appropriate place to write to. I did... more »
i'm getting ready to spend some a month in the philippines. much more interested in surfing but i know part of the time i will be in palawan and perhaps other places where diving is the only thing to do when i'm not chilling. the philippines is known for it's diving / snorkeling. so i figure when in rome..
i'm not padi certified. i could get it or some portion of it before i leave or wait until i get there if the urge arises. classes will probably be cheaper down there. timing might cost me some days though.
so i was in panama last year and went snorkeling a bit. the thought of putting some unknown mangy looking snorkel in my mouth used by a dude that had lockjaw meant i chose to snorkel without the snorkel ;)
i know absolutely nothing about diving masks, snorkels or perhaps a mouthpiece / regulator thingee i would hook up to a tank if i go scuba diving. those are th... more »
i see there are a bunch of visa threads here but not sure they completely answered the question i post here.
i have basically up to 34 days holiday depending on how i structure my intl flights to the philippines. the voa situation gives you 30 days. i'd love to have those extra 4 days in country (could be used as inter travel days) but the drawback is it puts me over the 30 day limit. i'm trying to figure out my best options to approach this:
1) just go for 30 days and forget the nonsense but i lose potentially 4 days
2) somehow get an extension
a) when i arrive / or enroute but i'm not exactly sure how much time i'm going to waste doing this, how much it will cost, where i can do it? i want to be flexible about where i'm going to be at any given time during my trip (it's not fully fleshed out yet) and if i can get an extension pretty easily and it doesn't cost too m... more »
Hi everyone. Just wondering if its best to try to book our accomodation in advance online before we get to the Philippines, especially for popular spots like El Nido and Boracay? Or is there better value to be had by simply dropping in to places when you arrive? We are going to be in these places in January which is obviously peak season and prices for some accomodations already seems rather high and some places appear to have no availability....

I am looking into the possibility of working in Indonesia for a around 25 days a month and then popping back to Europe to see family every month. I have an online business and my question is this.
Can I reside in Indonesia on the 30 day Visa on Arrival Visa and with my return ticket at hand then return back to the UK for 3/4 days and then come back to Indonesia a few days later and work this way? Has anyone done it? or has anyone heard of issues around this way of working? Just to reiterate my business and clients are all NON Indonesians and I am not earning nor taking any monies while living in Indonesia everything goes through the UK company back in the UK. Would appreciate the feedback from those in the know... There is a woman... If the question WHY came into anyone's mind... Thanks
Has any one used The Wikivoyage Travel Guide to the Philippines ?
it seems like a good way to find out up to Date travel Info for the Philippines.
most of the Travel guides come out every 3 or 4 years. but the Wikivoyage is live on Line.
Anyone know approximate prices and modes of transport from the Low Cost Carrier Terminal at KL down to Port Dickson? I hear this place is around 45 minutes from KL.
Anyone have any recommendations for accommodation there at $50 a night or less?
We were hoping to go to Coron in February and was wondering if anyone went there recently and whether the damages due to the storm are still very apparent or not. Any indications is highly appreciated!
Thanks a lot!
We have to catch a flight from Kalibo airport at 12.25 in the afternoon. Is it possible to leave Boracay early that morning to ensure we're in Kalibo airport in time to make the flight? If so, what time do you think we would have to leave? Or would we be best advised to leave Boracy the evening before the flight and spend the night in Kalibo?
I have decided to do my divemaster course on Alona beach in January and just wanted to get some recommendations on the best dive centre to go with. I have heard Genesis divers is quite good?
I am planning to visit Sukamade beach in order to try to see some turtles.
My question is the following:
is it possible to go there independently from Malang or Banyuwangi?
And if not which tour agent is a good choice?
Thanks for your help!
Hi all, we arrive into Bacleod at 5am from Manila and will have a full day & night before we start hiking up Mt Kanlaon.
We haven't heard of any nice beach areas on the way to La Carlota. Are there any decent places you can recommend? We will be getting up at 5am for the hike so can't be too far from La Carlota.
I will be travelling through Indonesia for a month in feb/mar before heading to Malaysia and other parts of SE Asia. I'm flying into Bali and haven't booked my onward flight yet. I'm wondering which city I should book my flight out of to Malaysia. I want to do a lot exploring and visit lots of areas. I've been looking up which parts of Indonesia are a must-see, but I can't decide on an itinerary and where I want to end up at the end of my 30 days.
I was thinking of spending some time in Bali and Ubud and heading east to Lombok and the GIlis Islands, and then from there possibly heading back west to Surabaya and Yogyakarta. What other areas are a must-see? Should i book my flight from Yogyakarta or keep heading west to Jakarta?
I don't want to completely plan out everything, and just see where things take me while I'm there, but I do need a bit of structure and a rou... more »
