KL with Family for 5 days

Hi There,
I'll be in KL with wife and 2 Kids 2 and 4 y.o. and I'm looking for accommodation. I know there is no similar place to Khao San Road in Thailand, but I like to know what comes close to it. What area are the backpackers staying, what are the most vibrant places? Hotel recommendations are welcome, budget 300 Ringgit or below.
Cheers

mid-range lodging mabul

been doing some research and it seems that on mabul accomodations are either at the low end of the spectrum or at the very top, with nothing in between (eg "flashpacker"). mainly i am looking for something that has air conditioning 24 hours...shared bathrooms and everything else being basic is not a problem. is there anything like this available? p.s. i know i haven't given a price range; i really just want to know if there's something between US $25 and $600 pp/pn. thanks!

Kapit - Belaga vs Kinabatangan

I will be travelling through Sarawak and Sabah in September. One of my initial destinations was to take a boat from Sibu to Kapit and Belaga with a stay in a longhouse. But in the meantime I understand that there's not very much of authenticity left in that region. Are there better options in the Kinabatangan river region or elsewhere?
Thanks for your feedback.

Malaysia in October/November

Hello,

I am planning maybe 5-6 weeks in Malaysia around October/November time. I am concerned about the weather at this time of year though. From what I have read, it sounds like the Perenthian Islands will likely be shutdown.

But how about the West Coast? Has anyone been there at this time of year and would you still recommend it? We would like a mix of beaches and more adventurous stuff. Obviously weather is not such a big deal for some activities, but I am wondering what it will be like on Langkawi for instance and the conditions for snorkelling etc?

Was thinking that we could always head up to some of the islands around Ko Tarutao Marine National Park also...

Cheers,
Paul

KUL Airport Question

Hi guys,

Air Asia Question.

We booked an Air Asia flight from

PHN to KUL - Depart: 08:20 Arrive: 11:10

Have not booked our second leg yet and here are our options

KUL to HKT - Depart: 12:40 Arrive: 13:00 (Air Asia)
OR
Pay a little extra and fly with Malaysia Airlines

KUL to HKT - Depart: 13:05 Arrive: 13:20

I know we will have to pick up our luggage, go through immigration and then check back in. Air Asia state (You will be denied boarding if you fail to be at the gate 20 minutes prior to time of departure.)

Question: are all the Air Asia in one international terminal? Are the immigration line in KUL crazy?

If we book the Malaysia Airlines, are all international flights in one terminal?

Thanks

Penang airport by bus from Love Lane

I've got an 11 am flight out of PEN this Saturday and I'm using google maps to plan the route to the airport because I can't seem to figure out how to use rapidpenang.my trip planner.

Google is saying almost 2 hours travel time by bus 401E including walking time. Is that right? It also says I could walk to the airport in 3.5 hours which seems very fast compared to the bus so I'm skeptical of the bus timing.

Also, where's the closest stop to Love Lane/Chulia, Komtar? And the exact fare?

Cheers.

Mersing from KUL LCCT

Hi again,
Is it possible to go from LCCT to Mersing without going back to KL? I thought I read there is a bus from both airport terminals to some nearby town whose name I've forgotten. Are there buses from that town near the airport to Mersing?

My flight arrives at 4 pm and the only buses from KL I think I could catch are overnight buses leaving from BTS ~10-11:30 pm which means hanging around the airport or BTS, neither of which sounds appealing, unless I spend the night in KL.

Cheers.

Jon

ATM or FOREX at Butterworth train station

Just wondering if I'll be able to get some ringgit when I get off the train from Thailand in a couple of days. I'm on Ko Samui now and many banks only buy ringgit and don't sell them for baht.

I just need enough to get over to Georgetown if there's no ATM. Or is the ferry free going from Butterworth to Penang?

Cheers.

Jon

Permai Rainforest resort in Kuching

For my son's 8th birthday, I am planning a trip for just me and him to Kuching. To stay for 3 nights at a treehouse at the Permai Rainforest Resort which I found on the net.

Has anybody been there ? Any tips ? I saw that the reviews are generally good in Trip Advisor but now mapping out our plans.

1 - Should we just stay there and book their activities ? Or organize some other trips outside the resort -- like to Bako National Park ?

2 - We arrive on Thursday lunch time and leave on sunday morning. Are there enough activities to keep us from getting bored -- or should I bring some board games for me and my son ? :)

3 - How 's the food ? Is it easy find find good food ? Or should we bring our own ?

Thanks!

Eric b.
