Inside this thread you'll find a collection of links to TT threads and websites about attractions, activities, travel practicalities and news about Brunei, East Timor, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, & Singapore.
Before you get reading (and posting), here's some advice from the TT team to help you find the info you need:
1. Do a TT search! At least five posters a week ask the same questions. The road is well travelled. Find those threads, add a reply (which brings the topic to the top, restarting the conversation), and then see #2.
2. Be specific. How much do you have to spend? How long is your trip? What are your interests (i.e. local culture and art, or sport, or food and drink, or none of the above). The details will help the community tailor your advice and answers.
3. Please use the right branch. This branch is intended for travel questions and resources...

hi there!
We are going to Indonesia in February and we like to stay in Jakarta for about 2 nights.
What can you guys recommend us to stay?
We have 2 kids (9-10 y.) and would like a quite and nice place with pool (?)
We take the train after that to the east so maybe not to far from the trainstation.
And what about the weather on Java in February? Is it good for travelling or is it to wet?
Thanks for helping us out.
regards/Caszw//Sweden

Lena House, Flores
Hi......late, but never too late I want to recommend you a nice, cosy place to stay. In October we traveled east of Maumere looking for a place to stay. Our first choice was Ankermi (Appr 25KM from Maumere) which was occupied. So we started seaching from Ankermi towards Maumere again. We then checked 3 places and the nicest by far was "Lena House", about 15 minutes walk from Ankermi. Lena House constist of 3 Bungalows. We rented the two new once. The Bungalows are made of Bamboo with a small veranda (porch). They have a attached Bath room. Lena´s Slogan: "We serve like Family" is true in every sense. It´s a quiet, easy place directly on the beach. The owner speakes good English. They are very helpul. If you want to relax on the beach, with good food, in a quiet familiar atmosphere this is the place to go. Diving is also possible, ask the owner he will help you on ...

Hey Folks,
I recently read an article about how Kuala Lumpur is known for medical tourism (such as implantations and stuff)..
I wanted to get my teeth bleached here in Europe, but it's really expensive so I was wondering if anybody has an idea about if I can get this kind of medical service during holidays in KL?
If yes, would you consider doing it? I mean, it's not a "big deal" I think.. or is it?
Thanks for any help!
:)
Merry Christmas from Germany

Could anyone recommend a driver/guide for birdwatching sites around Luzon? Plan to be there in April. Prices and contact details would be really useful.
Thanks.

Hi all MERRY CHRISTMASS from the largest Islamic nation .....i think.
is anybody travelling in kalimantan at the moment that wants to go jungle trekking?? i didnt realise that when people said the wet season in Borneo is quiet, it meant so quiet i wouldn't meet another traveller for a week straight (and thats travelling in large cities!!!). anyway im staying at hotel Murni in Balikpapan in east Kalimantan and will most likely be heading to Samarinda tommorrow unless i can find someone to share the costs of hiring a guide to go jungle. i'll try get back on here with a phone number sometime soon but if anyones in town just drop me a message or something at reception.
also does anyone know if there's many more tourists in Sabah at this time of year?
cheers

Dear all,
am heading to North East Lombok soon and have not been able to get a hold of any of the better accommodation options listed in LP for Sembalun.
Anybody has any recommendations for accommodations? Also, what are the conditions at end of Dec?
Thank you in advance.

Hi
We are planning a 3 week trip to Malaysia after arriving in Singapore, not including Borneo.
We have 3 young kids (5, 2 and 4 months) and would love some recommendations as I'm struggling to fin time to do much planning.
We like rural areas, beaches, countryside, meeting local people, different food, prefer to travel by train, sleeper trains are a bonus (kids love them), less-visited places.....
KL and Perhentian islands are on the list so far - accomodation recomendations would be appreciated - minimal budget, but safe and clean places needed. Basic beach hut-style would be fab on the islands.
Sorry for the vague request and thanks for any suggestions and your favourite places.

Hi everyone,
I'd like to fly into Singapore and visit Malaysia and Indonesia for February and March. Will the weather be OK at this time? I'd like to spend some time at the beach.
I know it's supposed to be the rainy season, but is it like monsoon in Thailand when everything shuts down?
Thanks!

Hello! We'll be in Malaysia for 2 weeks in the beginning of January. Do I need special adaptors to plug in my iPhone and camera into a wall socket? I assume I do, but I just wanted to double check w/ people on the ground.
Happy Holidays!

Hi,
Here is the newspaper article about the
Winning Photo of the famous Mina of Bukit Lawang.
Many a traveller to Bukit Lawang has a tale of their encounters with this 'lady' orangutan.

Calling travellers with experience
I plan to fly to Singapore, arriving on April 11th, I would like to see the city for a few days and then get the train onwards towards Koh Samui. I would like to stop off at Kuala Lump and Penang, arriving into Koh Samui on April 16th
Please can anyone who has done this trip before guide me on timings and how long to spend in each place, seeing as I only really have 6 days from arrival into Singapore and arrival in Koh Samui. This includes travel, but I am told some of the train journeys can be done overnight.
Any input would be greatly appreciated
Thanks, Thomas
