Inside this thread you'll find a collection of links to TT threads and websites about attractions, activities, travel practicalities and news about Brunei, East Timor, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, & Singapore.
Before you get reading (and posting), here's some advice from the TT team to help you find the info you need:
1. Do a TT search! At least five posters a week ask the same questions. The road is well travelled. Find those threads, add a reply (which brings the topic to the top, restarting the conversation), and then see #2.
2. Be specific. How much do you have to spend? How long is your trip? What are your interests (i.e. local culture and art, or sport, or food and drink, or none of the above). The details will help the community tailor your advice and answers.
3. Please use the right branch. This branch is intended for travel questions and resources...

Hello
My husband and I arrive in Medan on 11th Dec and have a flight out of Bali on 3rd January. Inbetween we don't have any plans apart from 3 days inLombok over Christmas. Can anyone suggest an intinenary? We would like to travel overland wherever possible to keep costs down and like the sound of visiting a volcano. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks

Hey guys and girls,
I've read through a few posts about this but there seems to be a lack of definitive answer..
My fiance and I are planning to go on Honeymoon in Indonesia, Bali is too busy and touristy for us but we would like some time chilling out on the beach (probably a week out of a month-long trip). I'd love to go to Sumatera but worry that even on the likes of Pulau Weh board shorts and bikinis would be cause real offence to locals. If my (then) wife wore board shorts and a t-shirt would that be considered acceptable or are we better off spending a week on a beach somewhere else in South East Asia before we arrive on Sumatera?
Any advice/suggestions would be great!
Cheers

Hi folks.
We are travelling to Malaysia on honeymoon in late January. We were thinking to spend few days at beach and thought of Langkawi. We heard that January is not nice time to visit East coast beaches...
Questions:
(1) It seems like Pantai Kok is the best beach in Langkawi for honeymoon. Is it true?
(2) Kindly recommend any nice but not so expensive hotels/resorts at this beach.
(3) Are any restaurants or local food stalls around the beach or one is forced to eat at expensive restaurants at resorts where one stays? Our plan was to stay at a nice place but eat out at place which fits our budget.
Your feedback would be appreciated.
Cheers

Hello
Me and my family (husband + two boys aged 6 and 10 years) are planning to travel to Borneo - Sarawak in approx. 3 weeks in March. We are backpackers and have been to Vietnam, Cambodia and the Philippines with the children since they were the age of 2 and 6 years, so we are accustomed to travel with them. We have never been to Borneo though - so therefore the questions:

I'm currently in Palawan and after a few more days here will be moving on, with about 7 days left of my holiday to fill.
my original plan was to fly from PP to Cebu and visit Bohol/ Siquijor/ Dumaguete (then fly back to Manila for flight home). However have just looked at weather reports which suggest its rainy / stormy over that way at the moment and will be so pretty consistently for the next week? So now considering flying to Manila instead to head north & visit Banaue / Sagada, but a bit unsure if that's a better option. Scenery there looks amazing, but I'm not super fit or wanting anything too strenuous! are there more gentle hikes / walks to do here or is it better suited for more serious hikers only? I also read that bad weather / visibility can ruin a trip there; just seen a forecast which suggests its okay there at the moment but does anyone know if thats the case? ...

Basically, my question is this : Can anyone recommend some good spots for diving and surfing on the Philippines?
Beginner spots are perfect, as my girlfriend will be doing her Basic Open Water there, and we've never tried surfing before.
Most important is the diving, as we're both hooked, though inexperienced. If anyone has some recommendations it would be great (and I have tried to search, was amazed there weren't threads like this before...)

Hi all, we are planning to go to Langkawi in September 2010 with 2 children & would like to know if anybody has some ideas about some good accomodation. We would like to spend about 200 - 300myr per night on a good clean place for about 7 nights at Cenang or Tengah beach. We have looked around & there seems to be no shortage but they look expensive, thanks.

Hello,
I was planning a trip to Lombok the last three weeks of January. I had wanted to do the Rinjani Volcano trek. Then I read, it is the rainy season until April. Is it still possible to do the trek this time of year? or should I postpone the trip until later in the year. I had also wanted to go to east Java to see the Bromo and Semeru Volcanos. I would still like to go on the trip, but not if there is little chance of seeing the volcanos.
Thanks

I am going to be in Malacca in a few months on a business trip and I might have 1-2 days free in the middle. If possible, I would like to go to Singapore for a day since I have not been there since 1999. Is it possible to do a day trip from Malacca to Singapore (leave in the morning and return in the evening)? What would be the most efficient way to do this (bus or ferry)?
Thanks.
Krish
