Inside this thread you'll find a collection of links to TT threads and websites about attractions, activities, travel practicalities and news about Brunei, East Timor, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, & Singapore.
Before you get reading (and posting), here's some advice from the TT team to help you find the info you need:
1. Do a TT search! At least five posters a week ask the same questions. The road is well travelled. Find those threads, add a reply (which brings the topic to the top, restarting the conversation), and then see #2.
2. Be specific. How much do you have to spend? How long is your trip? What are your interests (i.e. local culture and art, or sport, or food and drink, or none of the above). The details will help the community tailor your advice and answers.
3. Please use the right branch. This branch is intended for travel questions and resources...

hi all, i'm flying china-europe and want a beach break in between, so i'm stopping off at ko samui.
i know that's a bit vague for suggestions on how long to stay, but i'm thinking 4 days might be a bit short to soak up what the island has to offer?
i'm not into watersports (except maybe a bit of snorkling). just need to soak up the sun and relax
i was thinking krabi and raileh instead, but i don't want to spend more than a week getting from china to europe so i'd rather fly straight onto a beach
any suggestions on which beach to stay at Ko samui?

Hi,
I am looking for water purification tablets as I'll be leaving for India soon. I have friends who went to India and most of them got a diarrhea from the drinking water/fruit juice. I went to Guardian pharmacy but was told no such tablet. Any idea where I can get such tablets or any specific brand name that sold in Malaysia.
Thanks.

We have heard staying a bit outside of UBUD is the best approach. We prefer laid back, quiet, clean with good service...clean is very important. We would like to spend around $30-$40 (US) per night. We have heard stories of lovely rooms opening to rice paddies - suggestions? A pool would be a great! Thanks for sharing your insights!!!

Hey everyone!
I'll be travelling from Canada to Australia and then Indonesia ine the next 2 years and I'm massively tattooed ( Hands, Fingers, Neck, Throat etc. )
I was wondering if somebody(massively tattooed) ever had any problems crossing borders in Asia ?
Have you ever had any problems with locals?

I'm leaving Perth this Thursday (10th Dec) evening getting to Bali late Thursday night and then leaving Bali on Saturday morning (12th DEC).
I just booked it now as need a short break from work and Perth. Can anyone tell me whats good and accessible to do in a day without having to run around too much and where you would suggest I get accomodation?
I heard that staying around Kuta is good - but I'd like to see the nice scenic/cultural things in Bali and not just laze on the beach. (Perth has really good beaches).
Any help, or anyone around this area whilst I'm there would be awesome.

If anyone has had serious trouble with Immigration staff on arrival for not having ticket please also give details . This is not meant to be general discussion about the issues , but just survey. First hand accounts please rather than stories of other people.

Hi All,
I'm travelling from the UK to Australia next February with Singapore Airlines. I'm going through Changi Airport and am looking at staying at the Transit hotel to catch up on a bit of sleep/get a shower etc.
I arrive at Changi at 3pm and my flight onto Australia isn't until the next morning at 7am (so 16 hours in Singapore). Now I'm definitely wanting to sleep as I would rather catch up on some sleep and try to adjust my body clock so I'm less affected when I get to Australia. I'm not too bothered about seeing Singapore as went there a few years ago.
Couple of questions if you don't mind:

In the next couple of months my wife and I will arrive in MNL just before midnight. We plan on staying at the Grand Prix Econtel at Pasay, so we can get a bus out of the city early the next day. It is our understanding that we have two choices of taxi service - pre-paid and metered. Our assumption is that the pre-paid taxi would be a safer choice just because there is more documentation etc, so the driver would be less likely to try something. I am willing to pay a little extra for the pre-paid service if this is the case. Oh, and is the pre-paid service open that late? Thank you for any comments and suggestions,
Coxwell

I'm finally getting a short vacation for 10 days on this january.
So I'll fly into kuching and visit bako NP, Similajau NP, Niah NP and take a plane back to KK from Miri.
I think I will spend 2~3 days at the each stop.
Is the plan feasible?
What I don't want is that I put too much plan in short time and spend more than half of the my waking hours in a car.
I really would like to have time to walk in jungle and slack off on a beach.

Attention, there are thieves in Malate Pensionne! They opened my locked room and my locked luggage, where I was hiding my emergency money, They were only interested in dollars and euros I had. Fortunately it was not so much money that I lost, but the place is not safe any more. Reported it to the tourist police, after that checked out.
