Inside this thread you'll find a collection of links to TT threads and websites about attractions, activities, travel practicalities and news about Brunei, East Timor, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, & Singapore.
Before you get reading (and posting), here's some advice from the TT team to help you find the info you need:
1. Do a TT search! At least five posters a week ask the same questions. The road is well travelled. Find those threads, add a reply (which brings the topic to the top, restarting the conversation), and then see #2.
2. Be specific. How much do you have to spend? How long is your trip? What are your interests (i.e. local culture and art, or sport, or food and drink, or none of the above). The details will help the community tailor your advice and answers.
3. Please use the right branch. This branch is intended for travel questions and resources...

Hey there,
I wonder if anyone can offer some advice? My partner and I are travelling to Indonesia for 1 month at the end of May/beginning of June, and are finding it hard to decide where to go/what to try and see in such a short period of time!
We are both really keen to visit Sulawesi and Flores, as we want to go to explore the wildlife, go hiking, diving (hopefully surfing?), and get to explore the different villages and cultures. I believe that both countries aren't very touristy, but we are keen to try to see the country for what it really is - not just hang out with other Aussies!
I feel we may be trying to fit too much in by trying to go to both countries, so thought I might see if anyone has recommendations as to whether it's possible to do so much in a month, or if we should stick to one country and get to really enjoy it, without spending all our time on a bus?!

Does anyone know of a place similar to Bangkok's MBK Mall in Kuala Lumpur? I'd like to buy jeans, running shoes and more Christmas presents before heading home and would rather not lug it all between Bangkok and KL. If anyone can suggest a similar place, or any place, it would be appreciated. Are prices similar in KL to Bangkok?

May have to spend a night in Singapore in between flights. Does anyone know of a hotel that can accommodate 2 adults and three children in one room. In the past we have had to spend a night in Kuala Lumpur and the Pan Pacific there are always able to accommodate. Any one recommend a suitable hotel in Singapore
Thanks.

A friend and I were looking to do a trip to Teman Negara and were thinking about trying to make the trip easier by booking a tour. I've heard to research into tours because sometimes what they promise doesn't materialize. Does anyone have any suggestions of tours that are good? I was looking at a 3-day, 2 night tour on journeymalaysia.com but am unsure about how good they are.
Thanks!!

What is the cheapest possible accomodation I get anywhere in Manila?
It needs to be a single room, not sharing with anyone. That's the only requirement. And reasonable safe to keep my computer equipment in it.
I want to rent it from 1st December until 30th December (1 month).

I am attending a wedding in Bali next year and I want to make the experience as valuable as possible. I have been there 4 times and have never enjoyed my time there. This time we are staying out of Kuta and I would like to know of some cultural sites and general attractions that you wouldnt find in travel brochures.
If anyone knows of hidden gems or places where you can get a real experience of the local culture, I would love to hear about these great experiences.
Please save me from the drunken Aussies, the over baked UK backpackers and general Eurotrash !!
Cheers

Hi Folks,
I recently booked a hotel in Bali (legian kuta?) out of the Rough Guide Indonesia book. It was relatively inexpensive (beginning with an "L"?) and offered free airport pickup with a stay of 3 nights or more. I am currently at sea so anybody with access to the current RG edition of Indonesia that could help me out would be greatly appreciated!
Cheers

Hey all,
I have been lucky enough to secure a cheap flight to KL from which my partner and I are going to go to Indonesia for a vacation. I am an amateur photographer and really want a new Canon wide angle lens and, rather than fork out at Australian prices, thought it might be an option to pick up a good lens at a good price in KL. Does anyone have any suggestions of good places to buy camera gear (new or used) in Kuala Lumper? Alternatively, we are flying from KL to Makassar, so any tips on good photography shops there are also welcome.

I will be traveling to Singapore for the first time... and alone on Dec.19-27
Anyone also going there within that period?
