Due to weather I just got rerouted to where I'll be spending 12-hours at Sao Paulo's airport (GRU) tomorrow. Is that enough time to run into town and do stuff? If so any recommendations? My luggage is checked straight through, so I don't need to lug anything around with me. Thanks in advance!
I am looking to get from Rio to La Paz. I know international flights in South America are v expensive so i had looked at flying from Rio to Campo Grande which was only around $200AUS. Once there, does anyone know the best way to cross the border from Campo Grande into Bolivia, and then on to La Paz?
Going to Brazil this fall to see a friend and I only have about ten days. Should be coming from Sao Paulo and leaving from Rio, and I want to hit up either Ilha Grande or Ilha Bela along the way, but probably don't have time for both. So what's really the difference, if there is one? Are they both idyllic tropical isles with blonde-sand beaches, a turqouise sea and myriad waterfalls trickling into the serene rainforest? Maybe Ilhabela is easier to get around because it's smaller, but then is also more crowded?
If all else is the same, I might just go to Ilha Grande because it's closer to Paraty, which also looks fun. Any thoughts?
Hello. I'm a 33 year old male and will be in Rio from Oct 1 - 7. I am looking to experience some culture, relax, meet new people, and explore the city a bit. I would love recommendations as to areas and/or specific hotels in Rio.
Me and my 2 best friends, all mid -20s guys from the states, are planning on renting an appartment in Rio (prefferably Copacobana or Ipanema) from December 28 - January 3. We have looked at several places, and it seems the bigger apartments are a bit cheaper per person. That said, if anyone wants to join groups to get a bigger place to share, that would be awesome! Let me know
The flight I am looking at taking arrives into Sao Paulo GRU at 00.55am. I need to take a connecting flight to Salvador the same day but the earliest flight I can get is about 10am. Could you give me some advice for arriving into the airport at that time?
Is it a safe place for girl on her own to arrive at that time and wait for connecting flight?
Is it a difficult airport to navigate in terms of moving from international to domestic flights?
I am getting the usual grief from friends and family about staying in SP airport on my own and would love some feedback to provide them.
can anyone tell me if it is possible to go from Rio to Buenos Aires by rent a car?
Anyone know if the Hotel Solar dos Gerânios in Parati has an email address?
And on Ilha Grande for the Oasis Pousada, any phone or email?
I have 2 questions about TAM weight limits. I am flying from New York to Fortaleza, transferring in Sao Paolo.
1) how strict are they about carryon weight? 11 pounds is tiny!
2) since I have both a domestic and an international flight, do they get the same weight limit?

I have been to Brazil once before for 10 days 2 years ago, spent 5 in Rio, 3 in Pantanal and 2 in Iguazu. Thought Pantanal was ok, really liked Rio and Iguazu
This time plan is to use the full weekend to maybe rent a car and drive from Sao Paulo to Rio, stopping in Paraty/Ilha Grande. The 4 day time not sure yet, hoping to fly to maybe Salvador or somewhere else maybe Lencois Marahenses if cheap flights are possible
So couple of q's
1. For first weekend where I have two days from say noon Sat to 10 am Monday, would folks suggest staying in Sao Paulo, or visiting one of... more »

Excuse my ignorance but wondering what's the best time (weatherwise and activity wise) to visit Rio de Janiero? (I've serach on threads but cant see any other- could be wrong).
Also if you've been there, much appreciated you insights and tips for a good visit.
Looking at around 1 week there and surroundings.
Hi, we're going to Brazil at the end of September/early October and are having trouble deciding between what to see and what to skip. We'll have a total of 11 full days which excludes our travel into/out of the country. We are flying into and out of Rio and currently have a hotel booked there for 6 nights. We're trying to decide which side trips to take from Rio. The hotel is on points so we're also considering staying overnight in other areas while still booked in the Rio hotel so we don't have to bring all our stuff with us on a bus, etc. I think we may only want to spend 3 or 4 nights in Rio total.
We're in our 20's and live in the mountains and are very active. We're thinking of doing one side trip that's more beach focused and one that is more mountain/adventure focused. Looking for places that have lots of active things to do, good food, decent accommodations, and historic ar... more »
Hi everyone. I need recommendations of surrounding towns near Rio de Janiero. Someplace not too far. Cobblestone streets is a plus. Does anyone have any recommendations? Thank you.
FYI - I'll be there during early January.
