Northern Chile to La Paz - San Pedro or Arica? Altitude sickness
Could you help me with your Bolivian expertize? I saw some threads on similar questions posted in the past few years but I'm still not very clear.
I'll be finishing my Chile/Argentina trip after Christmas 2013 and fly back to Canada early January 2014 from La Paz.
I have a dillemma: going there through Arica or San Pedro de Atacama? I won't have time to do both Atacama and Putre/Lauca NP. I'd love to do San Pedro to Uyuni 3 day tour but I'm concerned about altitude sickness, I have terrible memories from staying in Cuzco 10 years ago. San Pedro is at about 2400 m. Would a couple days there acclimatize me to continue on the tour? I've read horror stories about people doing tour that way, but maybe they didn't stay long enough in San Pedro? On the other hand Putre is already at 3500 m and going there from Arica's sea level will give me altitude sickness for sure. So what is the lesser...

Bike tour, Mountain biking in and around Bogotá?
Hi everyone,
I’m coming to Bogotá in June for a week, before I make my up to Mexico. Being a cycle fan, I would love to explore the city by bike, preferably on a tour as I would have no idea where to go. Does anyone know a good tour operator for that, preferably with local guides? Also, if anyone know sth. about mountain biking anywhere around Bogotá, would be amazing as well.
Thanks in advance!

what to see outside Arequipa with a fear of heights?
Hi,
I am presently in Arequipa for a few more days. I want to see outside the city. Unfortunately, all that is suggested to me involves major heights -Colca Canyon, El Misti etc... I love the outdoors and long walks, villages, flora/fauna, textiles... Any suggestions?
Many thanks.

Quilatoa Loop Question
Hi. I am going to wake up on a Sunday morning in several weeks in Quilotoa. By 10pm on the same day, I have to be at the airport in Quito.
I have several questions.
I am prepared to take a truck to get to Sigchos to Quilotoa if I have to. Once I get to Sigchos is it better for me to catch a bus to Latacunga or would it be possible to go Lasso and get a bus or shared taxi (if they have them) from Lasso to Quito. Do they have buses from Sigchos to Lasso?
Do the buses from Lasso/Latacunga arrive at Carcelen Bus Terminal? From the bus terminal, I will need to go the airport and my friend to his hotel in the old town. Would it be better for us to take a cab together to the old town, and then me take a cab to the airport or should we part ways at the bus station. We prefer to be together for as long as possible unless the old town is far out of the way to the airport.

LAN Cancellation of flights in Argentina
Dispute with ground service, indefinite
BA Herald:
LAN Airlines halts ops until Saturday on provider woes
LATAM Airlines Group SA said its Argentina unit was halting all of its flights in the country until 8am on Saturday after state company Intercargo unilaterally decided to stop providing services to the airline.
Intercargo provides Latin America's biggest carrier with ramps at airports, loads suitcases and manages passenger buses to terminals.
Intercargo said LATAM "doesn't want to pay more than what was agreed initially" and said it is owed a debt of nearly AR$ 40 million ($7.6 million).
Intercargo says the tariffs in the current contract with LATAM should be raised to comply with new government rules.
A source in Argentina's airlines industry familiar with the conflict said Intercargo was demanding the equivalent of $18 million a year to resume the provision of servi...

SaniLodge or Cofan community
My husband and I would like to include a trip to the Amazon Basin in our Ecuador trip. We plan to do about 5 days (including the travel to the location). We're deciding between the camping option at Sani Lodge in Yasuni and the Cofan Survival Fund trips from Zabalo. I think I have a good idea about Sani, but does anyone have experience of the Cofan trips? I'm particularly concerned because according to guidebooks, trips from Lago Agrio are less good because the area has been extensively disrupted by oil interests. Thanks for any info.

We will be staying in Lima for 3 nights in June. Where will it be nice to stay, we do not want to be too far from the interestingplaces to visit. It is not easy to choose from the different areas of this huge city.
What advices for transportation inside Lima ? How can we recognise a safe taxi ? Do they have meters? Are buses reliable ? On arrival, taxi station is reliable ? What price to go into the city ?
Thanks for all answers

Salamina to Jardin
I plan to go from Salamina, a town about 40 miles north of Manizales, west through La Merced and across the river to Hwy 25 to a junction called Ed Rodeo, then Hwy 25 through Supia to Riosucio, and on to Jardin. Does anyone have any information about road conditions and buses along this route, especially the first part from Salamina to Hwy 25. Are the roads paved? I assume there will be some sort of a bus stop shortly after the junction with Hwy 25.
Buen viaje!

Peninsular Valdes - Worth it in mid to late May or not?
Hi All,
My Girlfriend and I are currently in Bariloche, Aregntina. We are thinking about going over toPeninsula Valdes in about 3 to 4 days time in hope of doing some whale watching.
From what I can read the Whale watching season starts from June (although i´m almost ceratin that the whales don´t arrive from June 1st!). We are streached for time and cant wait a few extra weeks. Has anyone been around this time before? Or does anyone know what the chances of seeing any whales are?
Any help that you are able to give us would be fantastic
Thank you
