UPDATE- PRE-PAYMENT OF RECIPROCITY FEES TO BA AIRPORTS BEFORE FLIGHT
UPDATE: COMING PRE-PAYMENT OF RECIPROCITY FEES TO BA AIRPORTS NEEDED BEFORE FLIGHT
Pre-payment has already started, no problems reported so far, it just does not become obligatory until 31st October 2012 for flights to Aeroparque and 28th December 2012 for Ezeiza International Airport. Right now , it is still an option to paying on arrival.
Another reason to fly into Argentina from Santiago to Mendoza or from Sao Paulo to Cordoba or enter by land or sea, as reciprocity fees only payable on landing on international flights into the two BA airports for Canadians , Australians and Americans. it does not apply to any other nationalities.
You register for the pre-payment site and pay here:
https://virtual.provinciapagos.com.ar/ArgentineTaxes/
Also, an explanation of the procedure is set out there as well.

Brazil and around
Hi everybody.
I am hoping to get some help from all of you who have been travelling in Brazil and the countries around.
I am going to spend new years eve in Rio and have my ticket booked to go back to Denmark on the 26th of January. Do you have any recomandations on where to go afterwards? My budget will probably only allow me to travel by bus, but i am open to the long bus rides.
Thanks for any advice :)

Purchase or rent motorcycles in Buenos Aires or Bolivia
Hi guys. I want to ride when I am over in South America but I am not sure how to go about it.
For someone who is in Argentina and Bolivia for about 2 months would it be better for me to rent a motorcycle or buy then sell one when I leave? Any information on how easy and how much motorcycles are to rent, sell or buy, and any information about what licensing or permit I require would be HUGELY appreciated!
I am planning on being in Argentina for at least a month so Buenos Aires would be the most likely area I will be looking to start riding, if not there then somewhere in Bolivia.
Cheers

Changing Peruvian Soles back to Pounds Sterling in the UK??
Hi everyone
I have had a search on here and can't find anything related to this, unless I've been searching the wrong words, so I'd really appreciate any advice.
I have 160 PEN left over from my trip, and according to today's currency conversion that equates to about £38. I have been trying to look for somewhere to buy back my currency, but I am struggling not only to find somewhere that will actually buy back Peruvian Soles, but also offer me a decent rate (I have seen some that I would only get about £30, and £8 seems a lot of money to loose in a currency conversion).
My other problem is that because I withdrew the money from an ATM over in Peru, so I didn't purchase from a Travel Money establishment over here, I have heard that they are unwilling to buy back the currency unless you purchased it from them in the first place.
Can anyone advise as to where I can actually ch...

Changing Colombian Pesos back to Pounds Sterling in the UK??
Hi everyone
I have had a search on here and can't find anything related to this, unless I've been searching the wrong words, so I'd really appreciate any advice.
I have 248'000 COP left over from my trip, and according to today's currency conversion that equates to about £86. I have been trying to look for somewhere to buy back my currency, but I am struggling not only to find somewhere that will actually buy back Colombian Pesos, but also offer me a decent rate (I have seen some that I would only get about £70, and £16 seems a lot of money to loose in a currency conversion).
My other problem is that because I withdrew the money from an ATM over in Colombia, so I didn't purchase from a Travel Money establishment over here, I have heard that they are unwilling to buy back the currency unless you purchased it from them in the first place.

Santa Teresa trek, food provisions for independant trekkers
Hi all trekkers !
I am planning to do the santa teresa trek to machu piccu next august but completely independantly, without giudes/porters etc and camp. I am struggling to find out what provision there is for food. I have heard that the lodges only allow guests who have booked through one of the main tour companies to stay, however do they allow passers by like me or folk who are camping nearby to come in and pay for meals ?
i am hoping to pack light even with the tent etc, so not having to take food and a stove etc would be fab
please help !

Hostel recommendations - San Pedro de Atacama
Hi
I'm going to be staying in San Pedro de Atacama for 3 nights in November and would like suggestions on where to stay. I'm planning on doing the geyser tour so would prefer a hostal that has a single room as I'll be getting up really early and might want to come back in the mid afternoon for a snooze. I'm a female travelling alone so need somewhere safe and quiet.
Many thanks
Camera bag as a day bay? Asking for trouble?
I'm going to be in SA for up to year (Chile, Bolivia, Peru, Colombia, Argentina, Ecuador, Brazil).
I have a bog standard day bag that came with my 70L rucksack. I'm thinking of getting rid of it and getting a nice new Lowepro bag for my 12 month travels. This is because it holds my equipment so much better and is very sturdy.
Picture of the bag i'm thinking of getting: http://imgur.com/TUc3c
There are a few schools of thoughts on this i've discovered since asking around -
1.) Nice expensive camera bag is going to make you stand out for a robbing.
2.) It looks like a normal bag so who cares.
3.) If you're going to get robbed it's because you are a gringo and in the wrong place at the wrong time. The bag isn't going to make much of a difference.
Obviously I don't intend on walking around dodgy areas with it, this will be for the day trips to see the sights or walking ar...

DWS Spanish school Buenos Aires

Who joins me for climbing Carihuairazo or Iliniza Norte in November?
To prepare for my Cotopaxi climb, I would like to climb Carihuairazo (or Iliniza Norte, alternatively) around November 6. I am looking for a partner to share a guide (I am planning to book with Julio Verne Travel - www.julioverne-travel.com). The price per person is lower, if a guide is shared by 2 persons (USD 185 instead of 280 for Carihuairazo).
I am 30, male, from Germany, but I know Ecuador quite well, as I lived there for several years.
I am not an experienced mountain climber, but physically fit and I have climbed Iliniza Norte before.
Anyone interested, don't hesitate to contact me.

Cartagena surroundings
Hi All,
I am heading to Cartagena in December and will be bringing my parents this time.
Does anyone have any tips for places to visit in the areas around Cartagena (dont want to stay in town all the time) like for example nice villages, parks etc? Nothing too strenouous as they are not young anymore :)
Also, looking for tips on how to get to Islas Rosario without being ripped off, if anyone has a good contact?
Tnx,
Kim

Internet Banking in Bogota, Colombia
My wife and I intend to move to Bogota in about 7 weeks' time. Would anyone please be able to tell me which Bank in Bogota has the best Internet Banking facilities. I know internationally both HSBC and Citibank have fairly decent Internet Banking. Are there Colombian Banks with better facilities?
It is also important for me to transfer funds into and out of the Colombia using Internet Banking. Are there any serious restrictions that make such processes difficult?
