Although I would personally prefer the smaller size, climate, and reputed hospitality of Medellin (where I visited very briefly in 2010), I may choose to go to Bogota next summer both to see something new and because it seems like there is so much to see in cultural terms. (I am thinking of the museums, government buildings, etc).
I am going to ask the following question with all due respect and with no intention of offending anyone: Is the stereotype that the Rolos in the capital are less friendly a myth, or is there a grain of truth to it? Yes, I know that there is every type of person in every place, but I do think that one can identify common TENDENCIES in behavior that differ from one place to another.
In reading information about Bogota online it seems like many have found Bogota to be less friendly than a city like Medellin, although some disagree. Furthermore, a friend... more »
I have about 10 days in Columbia. Do people believe Bogota to the north is better with Caragena included or Bogota to the south like into the jungle is better?
We are a team of four and our bicycling from Cartagena, Colombia to Patagonia, Argentina.
We have now reached Salento, a town near Armenia and our taking the route down to Cali, Popayan and Pasto.
Can anyone recommend any interesting places to stay between Armenia and Cali and places that we must go to on the way?
My husband and I are planning to travel to Colombia (and possibly Venezuela) next year. Can somebody tell me when's the best time to go? Summer or winter time (read conflicting things about wet and dry seasons)?
Secondly, how dangerous is the border with Venezuela? Cause I've read that if you stick to the usual tourist track is pretty safe but as soon as you venture into the jungle (I don't really want to join the FARC) or other areas it can get quite dangerous.
We've got roughly a month!
I am gonna travel to Colombia and will stay in Medellin for 4 days. I have been looking for accommodation information about Medellin and found out that many people have good reviews about 61 Prado Guesthouse.
I went to their websites to check and here are a few questions
the price on their website are actually a bit cheaper than the price they listed on other hotel booking websites, so I tried to e-mail them and make a reservation for one day first ( because the price is a bit over my budget, I am looking for a room under 15 usd and quiet also in a near walking distance to metro, but since I will arrive Medellin in the early evening, I think it's better to have the first night booked so to avoid dragging my baggage in the dark looking for a place to stay). However, they never replied my e-mail for two days.
So if I just book the hotel first from other website ... more »

We will have a long ride between medellin and Cartagena or Santa Marta.
Choices are between copetran, unitransco, rapido Ochoa or Expreso Brasilia.

looking for comfy seat reclining and top notch bus like bolivariano
Thanks for your returns and for those stock in the rain like us..Hang on !
I've decided last minute to go to Cartegena for a month to chill out, get some sun. Does anybody know of an apartment I can rent for a month? Maximum budget 2,000,000 pesos, furnished with internet?
I arrive on 12th December and leave on 12 January.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Hey guys, any luck getting in touch with Turcol recently? I emailed them three times over the past two weeks at the two email addresses posted online, both in English and Spanish, and haven't heard back.
I also tried calling using the number posted online and again to no avail. Admittedly, I did call at around 7PM, so I'm not sure if the office is still open at that time.

I will be arriving into Bogota from Havana via air and then travelling around for approx four weeks before heading to Peru. I have read a number of posts on this site which have been great but I still have a few specific questions:
1) A number of people have said that an onward ticket from Colombia has been necessary before boarding the flight into the country. Does an onward flight from another S Am country country count or does it need to be from Colombia?
2) I am thinking of getting a flight from Bogota or elsewhere down to Leticia and crossing the border there. Is it likely that this would be considered an onward ticket?
3) If I were to travel into Iquitos from Colombia where would be the next logical destination after Iquitos?
Many thanks for any help with this.
Can anyone recommend a good project to volunteer with for a couple of months next year in Colombia please. Preferably something with an environmental focus but doesn't have to be. But not teaching.
I am happy to contribute towards my food etc but am generally suspicious of many of the websites which sell volunteering trips for large amounts of money. I would prefer to arrange something independently.
I have travelled to Latin America several times, Colombia twice, speak good spanish and can supply references.
The ecohabs w/ Aviatur are full- is other bungalow accommodation within the park? I'm booking for a group that doesn't want to stay in tents/hammocks. Also want to confirm time from Santa Marta to the park. It looks like 1-2 hour drive from airport to Tayrona (40km), and an hour walking in the park so 2-3 hours to get settled from airport? Thanks!
Which is better for this trip .. A day bus or night bus? Will be traveling between Christmas and New Years.
I am debating between 2 hotels in Medellin. Review for both state they are in El Poblado, but when I google map it's 3-4 mi apart. I'm booking for a large group that wants to be close to the nightlife/action. Which would you recommend. Thank you!
