American Airlines would not issue a boarding pass for flight to La Paz unless I had $135 in cash, hotel reservation, yellow fever shot, and two passport pictures. I had everything except pictures. Had to go out of terminal to catch a cab who took me to nearest Walgreen where I got pictures taken. On arrival at LA Paz airport no one asked for the pictures.

Later this year I will be in South America. i am flying in to Sao Paulo and I have about 6 weeks to make my way across to Lima. I haven't booked any transport anywhere within the continent. On the way across over to Lima I'd really like to be able to visit Rio, Torres del Paine, Buenos Aires, and maybe Santiago.
Do you think its possible or not really worth it seeing all those places.
Do any of you have any suggestions on cheap ways of getting between these places?
Thanks for your help.
Hello fellow travellers,
I'm trying to figure out the best destination for our honeymoon next year in February. I get to choose where we go and prepare the whole shabang, but she imposed the conditions ( to which I agreed). The criteria are few but very precise.:
- see vulcanoes and heavy vulcanic activity (lots of fumaroles, mud pots, volcanoes etc);
- clear skies and good temperatures to have beach time;
- no need to take malaria pills;
- good diving spots
- if possible: see whales (but this is the least important one)
Thank you very much!!! more »
hi, I am going to reach
7th reach Lima at night
8th + 9th to Puerto Maldonado
10th flight from Puerto Maldonado to Cusco - reach at 1:30pm - staying in Ollantaytambo
11th - MP - staying in Ollantaytambo
12th - back to cusco
13th - in Cusco
14 - back to US
So i need a suggestion on a guide that will pick us up from the Cusco airport on the 10th, stop by Pisaq Ruins and market
11th - take a guide from Ollantaytambo to Maras salt pans and Moray
Also should i book a guide with a car before hand or it better to go there and pick one?
I want to book a stay with Sani Lodge but they are asking for an international wire transfer. Should I trust them? Has anyone had experience with Sani Lodge through wire transfer?
Thank you for your help
I'm taking a day hike to Laguna 69 in Huaraz on Sunday, May 18 with my girlfriend. In my experience, day tours in Peru spend too much time eating lunch at restaurants that have agreements with the tour company and not enough time at the main destination. Reviews I've read of the Laguna 69 tours are none the exception.
My girlfriend and I are going to contract a taxi for the day. It will provide transport from Huaraz to the Laguna 69 trailhead, wait for us while we trek, and stop anywhere else we want on the way there/back. The total cost will be around 250 Soles, so if we get 2-3 more people it will cost the same as a day trip with the tour operators.
We are late 20s/early 30s and in good shape. If you are in reasonable shape and would like to join, please let me know!
i have to decide if to go to panama or ecuador . where are the best beachside places to drink outaide of the cities in Ecuador please? i like places like taganga in colombia , byron bay , praia de pipa/arriaial de ajuda in brazil. thanks
At the supermarket you will typically get a total of an odd amount, e.g. 3493. The cashier asks something in a typical quick slurring mumble which will include "7 pesos" (for this example), that's all I've ever been able to make out . I have assumed they are asking do I want the change of 7pesos, but whether I say "no", "si", or "no quiero", or "no quiero vuelta", or "no quiero cambio", they still give me those useless coins. Can someone tell me what they are saying, and what I can say so I don't get given those no value coins.
Hi to all
We are family with 2 teenagers and will be staying one week in Puerto Ayora early July.
We would like to do day trips to Bartolome, North Seymoure, Floreana
It look like July is busy month so we are note sure to book trips before or wait until we arrive there??
Any recommendations for travel agencies that organize day trips??
We tried to contact Moonrise travel through their web site but didn’t get reply
Anybody know their current email, phone number??
I am looking to arrange transportation from Chivay to Arequipa stopping at the Cruz del Condor and the only thing I can find are huge tours leaving from Arequipa. Anyone know if it is easy to arange this in Chivay. Any agencies there? thanks!
I'm planning to go to Ecuador in July. I am wanting to do a day trip(s) from Quito to the Galapagos. I'm looking for a tour company who do day trips. Also, I use a wheelchair so I would need a company that can work with wheelchair needs and know about the accessibility on the islands.
Thanks in advance!
I recently moved to Cartagena and I wish I knew about this site earlier.
If you have anymore recommendations on this lovely city I'd love to hear them, especially good restaurants to try!
Hello Travel Experts!
We just booked our international tickets to Peru and I need some help planning my itinerary there. We're getting into Lima on June 28th and will be headed back to the US on July 7th. Here's what I have so far:
June 29th- morning flight to Puerto Maldonado - 3 nights in Refugio Amazonas
July 2nd - fly to Cusco (afternoon flight) - 2 nights in Cusco (tues, wed nights)
July 4th (thu) - stay in olly (SV sights, Pisac)
July 5th (Fri) - early morning train to MP, spend day in MP, stay in Aguas calientes - Friday night
July 6th (Sat) - train back to Cusco. Spend last day and night relaxing in Cusco
July 7th (Sun) - early morning flight to Lima, intl flight back to US at 2:15 in the afternoon.
Couple of questions regarding this itinerary:
1. Does it make sense to spend 3 nights in PEM, or should I make it 2 nights and spend 1 extra day in the Cusc... more »
