my boyfriend and I are currently travelling through South America and have our flight home to Canada booked to fly out of Bogota. We´ve noticed that the travel advisory has gone up since we booked and are wondering if it is safe to cross from Ecuador, and if anyone has any advice. We are conspicously gringos so are worried about being targeted. Also, has anyone had any luck with airlines waiving the change fee for flights out of locations that have been put on security alert? Any and all info and advice would be much appreciated!
My friends and I are planning a quick 10 day trip at the end of March and we are stuck in a debate about destination. Some of us want to explore Colombia and the others want to go to Panama/ Costa. Does anyone have any suggestions about which is cheaper? I am worried Panama and Costa are very touristy and pricey versus Colombia. Any suggestions would be most excellent!
Many thanks for responses
So I have the opportunity to travel for four days (right before I begin my new job and right after I get my tax refund) and I'd love to go somewhere in South America, if it were up to me I'd say Brazil or Argentina...but I am on somewhat of a budget. What do you think, is four days worth it to go from LAX to Brazil/Argentina/somewhere else in S.A.?
Thank you in advance!
I have been reading this forum for a few months now, looking for random info but now I am in need of advice.
My partner and I have been planning and saving for a trip around South America (and hopefully the UK) for almost a year now. We have made a rough plan of places we want to go and things we want to do but are leaving it quite open, without a concrete itinerary. At this point we are spending up to 10 months in SA, which means we can pretty much go wherever, whenever we want without stressing about getting somewhere in a hurry.
In the lead up to the trip we have been doing the usual check ups and immunizations etc... I had a checkup at the dentist (to be honest before this I hadn't been to the dentist for 7 years, the bill wasn't too bad considering) and she advised me she thought my bottom left wisdom tooth was growing sideways.
I got x-rays and yes, it is growin... more »
Can anyone recommend good websites to book hostels/hotels in Peru and Bolivia?
I've always used Venere with good results but while looking to get an idea of a budget I've found that they don't have much for South America.
Also going in mid-August to mid September, is it ok to book a hostel for the next day or should we book in advance?
Thanks so much x
Two of us are spending a month in Ecuador traveling independently. Besides the Galapagos, we are traveling to Mindo, the Oriente (probably out of Tena), south from Quito to Banos and Cuenco. Does anyone know a reliable birding guide (person) and/or inexpensive lodges that cater to birders in any of these locations? Thanks.
My girlfriend is struggling to find any tampons in BA that come with applicators.
Does anyone know if and where these are available to buy in the city?!
Thanks in advance...
Anyone know if soy or almond milk is available in Arequipa?
I will be taking a salt flat tour in Uyuni, Bolivia until the 23rd. I was told that I could take a local bus overnight to get to Villazon and then cross the border to La Quiaca in Argentina. The next place I'd like to go is Mendoza, but the flechabus prices I've found are very expensive. Does anyone have any experience they could share in getting there? Is it smart to go from La Quiaca or should I travel somewhere else first from Uyuni? I would like to get there as early as I possibly could, but money is a factor as well.
Thanks so much!
My friend and I are currently in Rio. We'd like to get a bus up to Itacare. Does anybody know where/how/with which bus companies we can book tickets? I'm aware that we'll probably have to get a bus to Ilheus or Itabuna and then get a local bus to Itacare, but are there any other places en route from Rio that would be better to stop at on our way, perhaps somewhere nicer, or that makes the journey easier?
Thanks for your help!
On recent trips in other countries, we rented a private car and driver.
The price was obviously a little more than a regular long distance bus but nicer since we could stop whenever we asked and it was much safer.
Has anyone heard if this option exists and is used in Bolivia?
Just wondering if anyone has been in or is in Rurrenebaque at the moment, as we are trying to decide if it is worth the risk (given the rain and all) of heading there for a pampas or maybe jungle tour at the moment. We're thinking of going tomorrow, so swift responses would be much appreciated!
Thanks in advance
