I'm interested in going kayaking in the Nærøyfjord, but I want to know a few things prior to deciding whether I want this holiday or not.
I know this may be a bit to ask for, but if anyone could answer my questions it would be greatly appreciated. Being from Australia, I'd like to get the best ecotourism experience with my money.
Thanks for your time!
I am toying with an idea to spend this year's three week summer vacation in the north of Scandinavia, and this is a general invitation for suggestions and tips to those who have already been there and done the route.
While I am still researching the destinations, the rough idea now is to
- drive up from Copenhagen (where I live) to Oslo, then
- from Western Fjords up to Alesund, then
- Mo I Rana and up along the Arctic Highway to Bodo and after the ferry crossing
- spend a few days exploring the Lofoten.
After that, depending on the time left, I might go all the way up to the Nordkapp (which gets less exciting the more I read about it), or skip it and from Narvik turn eastward to visit the Abisko national park, Kiruna, and then drive back south via Sweden (visiting some national parks, Lulea and maybe do the Vildmarkveien 324) to finally return to CPH s... more »
I will travel from Bergen to Oslo during late August. Here are my questions:
Do I need a reservation for the train? If so how far in advance should I make a reservation?
Do I need a reservation for the bus? If so how far in advance should I make a reservation?
Will I be able to use a regional Scandinavia train pass if I take the train (it makes sense that I should be able to but you never know)?
Other than the amount of time, are there any advantages for the bus or the train that makes one better than the other?
Any info will be appreciated.
Which glacier is most accessible to a hiker in the Lyngen Alps ? I've been reading about Furaflaten to Sydbreen but not sure how long it takes (and is camping possible once there) ?
Or are there any others that are accessible just by hiking (not planning to glacier walk though, shame, can't afford a tour on one).
I'm doing the Norway nutshell tour from Oslo on 25th July. To fit in with my schedule I'm thinking about doing the round trip to arrive back in Oslo am 26th July. I'm considering getting a cabin on the sleeper train but just wondering if there's anyone getting this train back on the same day who would like to share the 800 NOK cost. I'm a down-to-earth British male.
I have chalked out a rough itinerary for my 1 week Norway trip. I request your suggestions and advise. My arrival into Noway and departure out of Norway are booked. None of my internal trips are booked so if you have any advise and suggestions please do let me know.
1. Arrive in Oslo at Thursday 18July2013 evening. Take the night train from Oslo to Bergen and get down at Myrdal at Friday 19July early morning.
2. Travel from Myrdal to Kaupanger and pick up a rental car at Europcar location in Kaupanger in the morning.
3. Road trip for the next three days i.e., Friday, Saturday and return the car back on Monday morning at Kaupanger. In this road trip, I have planned to drive through Sognefjellet mountain tourist route, Geiranger-Trollstigen, Atlantic road and come back in a different route to Kaupanger. I also wis to drive to watrefalls and other scenic places in this road tr... more »
I want to go to Svalbard in August. As my budget is limited, I want to make it in 2 days.
- I wish I stayed longer. But, will full 2 days be enough to understand the general concept?
- I am considering a full day trip one day, and 2 half day excursions on the other. For full day, which one do you recommend? A boat trip to Barentsburg with Esmark glacier OR Pyramid with Nordenskiold OR Bore Glacier?
- For half day trips, I plan a dog sledding on wheels and Isfjord safari. Is dog sledding still interesting with wheels? Do you have any other suggestions for short trip?
- I will land at 01.25 by Norwegian Air Shuttle. I do not want to pay for expensive accommodation for few hours as the trips start around 08.00. Is there way to hang out until morning? Is it possible to leave the bag somewhere and walk around the city or climb to the close hills as it will not be da...
I am fine tuning my Norway road trip and would like to know if Rv 63 will be open during the first week of June....The plan is to travel on Rv 63 to Dalsnibba Viewpoint, then to Geiranger, and from Valldal to Trollstigen. Any information as to a website or if you have current knowledge on the status of the road, will be greatly appreciated.
Making plans for the summer '14, I intend to travel from Belgium to Kiel by my own car (camping gear) to catch the ferry to Oslo for a 10-14 day trip sometime in june-sept. As the ferry is not cheap I'm looking at possibilities to reduce the cost. I'd be looking for another solo traveler (+gear). As nothing is decided yet, dates, pick up point etc. are open to discussion.
I am looking for help planning a 1 week trip to Norway. We (my sister, father and myself) are flying into Oslo at 1935 hours on 18th July and flying out of Oslo on 25th July early morning. We are primarily interested in nature and would like to soak in as much of the fjords as possible. I have hiked to Kjerag and Preikestolen and seen quite a bit of Bergen and therefore I wish to concentrate on other areas this time round. I am particularly interested in spending time in Sognefjord and would like to ride the Flam railway and the Sognefjord cruises. I am also keen on Rauma railway. It would be great if you could suggest a rough outline to start with. An initial idea I have is to rent a car from Friday to Monday and drive through the national tourist routes and see places not easily accessible by public transport. Once I return the car on Monday I can spend time the rest of time... more »
In less than 2 weeks, my boyfriend and I leave for a 4 week roadtrip to Norway (we're from Belgium). We will drive to Tromso and back and we'll mainly go wildcamping. We're planning to stop a few days for hiking in Jotunheimen, Hardangervidda, Lofoten and Lyngen Alps. We are very much looking forward to experiencing the midnight sun and wildcamping (which we never did before) in this beautiful country.
I was thinking June would be the perfect period for us to go, because of the long days, not yet too crowded, lots of flowers and green and still snowy mountains (and the weather would be not too bad in general?). But maybe I was a bit too optimistic. Of course we're worried about the recent floods in southern and central parts of Norway, but we hope the effects will have decreased by the time we get there (unless it keeps on raining...). And we expect to get our fair par... more »
Hello Lonely People!,
I am planning to rent a car for about 3 Days in the third week of June. Oslo to Bergen is the route I have in mind.
Now can you suggest me the best route I can take on this journey? I would prefer something really scenic, adventurous, with a lot of sight seeing (but not too touristy).
Also, as I am completing this road in a span of 3 days, which would be best places to a spend a night at? Camping near by a fjord mountanious region or something of that sorts.
and the last question, how much would the fuel cost for this entire trip?
Does anyone know if petrol prices are consistent across Northern Norway at all (i.e. little variation) ? As this is what i found in Iceland last year with prices being the same almost everywhere. I know of course its expensive, but hopefully not like the UK with so much variation between town and rural. Thanks, Lee.
First i wanted to go to slovenia, because wildcamping is prohibbited over there i've bin doing some research about Norway and i fell in love!
The last week of July my mate and i will go to south Norway for two weeks. We will travel by airplane to Gardermoen airport Oslo in morning. From airport to Oslo bij shuttlebus. Walk a bit in Oslo and take the awesome train ride Oslo - Bergen. Wildcamp around Bergen for 2 nights but then things become blurry.. We have a list of things we want to see and do.
- pulpit rock Stavanger
- flam railride if possible..? Or maybe Oslo- Bergen is enough...?
- geiranger fjord
- Jotunheimen NP
- fishing while wildcamping
Are there more must see's on the route?
I've bin trying to figure things out, but i don't know the best way to travel from place to place without going back a route we already travelled and we don't ... more »
