I am planning for a trip to Iceland in June 2014 and came across Sadcar rental. Obviously they rent very used cars so I am aware that I will not get a flashy brand new car. But can anyone share experiences on reliability of these cars? I mean if that car breaks down somewhere at e.g. Myvatn, how will they be able to help you?
Also, I have read some mixed reviews on their pick up service attitude, like you need to wait for hours until they get you to their rental location which seems to be a few kilometres away from the airport.
Another reason why I like the idea of renting a used car is that they may not be too picky on minor scratches which I understand are not unusual given Iceland's rather rough roads. True? Or is their business model to extort money for scratches on an already scratched car?
Thanks for your information.
We are planning a tour of Iceland at the end of Feb 2014 - mainly to see Northern Lights. We wanted to find out if anyone knows of a private guide & driver we can hire for 5 days. It could be the same individual. We are not necessarily looking for group package tours, as we will do the hotel and other bookings ourselves.
Any suggestions are welcome.
My friends and I will be in Iceland from the 24th-28th of December and are lookind for a restaurant to eat dinner at on Christmas Eve. Does anyone know any that will be open? I have found 2 but both are over $100 plate meals, and we are just too poor for that. Any suggestions would be great!
we're heading for Iceland first time in January, from Thursday morning until Sunday morning, picking up a rental from Keflavik.
Wondering if it's better to stay around Selfoss rather than Rekjavik (cheaper, less ppl, more romantic, better chance for N. lights?)
Thursday afternoon: seeing Reykjavik
Friday: Gulfoss, geysir and blue lagoon (or too much in one day?)
I am currently planning a trip to Iceland for June 2014 for three weeks. I am looking for people's advice on places to visit, eat and what have ya. I will be driving around Iceland and camping along the way.
Please all advice is welcome!
Where is the best place to rent a car? Good rental for good value?
What were your top 10 sites to be seen?
I am traveling to Iceland in April 2014. My first week will be with a friend who describes herself as a "luxury/lazy tourist". We are planning on doing all of the "tourist" stuff together - the roadside attractions and must-sees. When my friend leaves mid-April and I'm staying for another 10 days solo. I'm planning to up the ante and go exploring, and am seeking advice for tours and adventure-style traveling. As of right now, I don't have a game plan but definitely know that I want to do something usual, and get out of the city. I am from a mountain community and am not afraid of physical activity, but most of the tours I've been finding are "closed" until at least May. Any advice would be appreciated, especially names of groups or tour companies who would be able to accomodate a solo traveler in April!
Thanks a million.
I am reposting this topic because I forgot to put it in Iceland brach before.
I know, that You read still new and new itinery suggestions day after day, but I came here with the same question, if you don't mind. Me and my girlfriend are going to visit Iceland during July 2014 and we would like to do approximately 10 days long tour. The problem is, that we will be using local means of transport (bus) and I am solving some problems with our itinery now.
Those are places to see:
A) Reykjavik - at least one whole day
B) Golden circle - made as one day circuit with Reykjavik excursions with returning to the capital city, so no problems so far.
C) Akureyri, Myvatn and Husavik - Well, we would like to sleep in Husavik or Akureyri, because we would like to see also bigger cities, not only a nature. And we think, that it is better to stay both nights in Akuyreri, b... more »
Dear In dec-Jan I'll be in Iceland with my wife and daughter (1yo).
I've read about Golden Circut (I'm not referring to road ring but to Gullfos, Pingvellir) and I've seen several daily tour going there.
TO be more flexibile with my daughter I was thinking to visit Golden ring by my own rented car (normal car)
Are the road feasible in dec- jan?
I'll be in Iceland for a few days and intend to look for some nice woolen sweaters there. Can I get any VAT back? I'm German and the flight will be within the Schengen area.
Iceland is a member of the Schengen agreement, but not a EU member.
Hi, I'll be in Reyk from 27 dec to 2 jan with my wife and my 1yo baby.
I'm looking a hotel with a kitchen (shaerd or not) and a 'restaurant'.
the best would be even with a play area where to let her crawl (my baby not my wife).
PS: I'll have a car so it might be even not in downtown
I'll be in iceland in June 2014, though only for 6 days. I'm planning on doing a hiking and Camping Tour and would like to have a companion.
I'm 32 years old, married and mother of two little boys (6&7). I'm looking for a male companion between 28-40 years who maybe has some experience in this kind of travelling. I haven't done this before. But I like being outdoors, I even absolved a survival training where we slept in the woods without a tent and ate nothing but herbs and roots.
It would be nice to hear from you.

We have a late flight home 9pm so we are going to the blue lagoon first. Is it worth buying the entrance fee that includes the restaurant credit or just eating at the airport? Which is best food and best value?
im coming to iceland to travel next year, does anyone know about boats leaving from Reykjavik or anywhere else to europe or scotland?ive heard there are a couple of car ferrys but i just need a cheaper passeneger ride, any spaces on carrgo boats? yahts?
One additional question for our stay over Christmas: Anyone have/know of a good cabin/cottage rental for Dec 23-25 2013 (3 nights)? Having trouble finding something and thought perhaps someone would know of a good option. There are two of us and we would like a stocked kitchen with oven for cooking (but don't need much space) ~$100-120 per night is the budget we're looking in...In a perfect world it would be somewhat secluded (outside of a main town). It never hurts to ask! :)
I will be in Reykjavik the week surrounding New Years and am trying to decide how to spend my time (and money)! Help! Any advice is appreciated! Here's what I was thinking so far:
12/29: Arrive; Blue lagoon; possibly Northern Lights tour
12/30: Horseback riding & Golden Circle combo tour
12/31: News Year Eve -- no ideas???
1/1: Dog sledding at sunset or midnight (for Northern Lights)
1/2-1/3: Not sure how to spend these two days... Debating between a few options: South Coast/Glacier Hike/Jokulsarlon, Snaefellsnes, or Volcano Caving
1/4: Depart approx. 5pm
What to do my last two full days seems like the tough choice since those appear to be the most expensive tour options (and I will not be renting a car). Realize these are far drives so, besides money, time is a factor and I've heard that the one day Jokulsarlon tour in winter is not worth it. Can Snaefellsnes be ... more »
