Xmas to New Year

I know I have left it too late but I am planning to go to Fiji for xmas and new year (23/12 to 01/01). This time, I don't want to backpack but at the same time I do want to see the real fiji. Since I am traveling alone, it would be nice to actually have some people around during new years eve. Any particular venues that organise new year party's? I wouldn't mind staying staying in a luxury resort for a couple of days for a change. I backpacked through South America, India and Malaysia with the advice I got through this forum and I am hoping I will get the same again. Thanks again.

The Northern Group

Hi, I'm planning on a trip around the South Pacific at the end of 2013 and I would love to have the opportunity to see the Northern Group of the Cook Islands and wanted to ask if anyone has been fortunate enough to have the chance to visit these atolls or if anyone could offer advice on how to get to and from Pukapuka, Manihiki, Penrhyn etc. Any help or advice will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Fiji or Vanuatu for exploring / photography and beach time !

Hi all,

We are looking at going to either Fiji or Vanuatu for a week in December. We have done a bit of research but we were hoping maybe someone who has experienced both places could help us decide which one may suit us the best. We've done a lot of travelling and are used to staying in backpackers but as we are only going for a week we would like something maybe midrange, not a big garish resort but somewhere comfortable, quite and and away from the crowds - location is key !

We of course want the obvious beautiful beach beach with great snorkelling on our doorstep

We would like the option to go off and explore independently, and we are keen photographers so we would like to experience scenery, local life and culture !

We love our food so would like to eat well.

I'm taking my rod so would love to do a bit of fishing and other activities.

From our research Fiji l... more »

Where to go in the Solomons?

My wife and I are planning to go to the Soloman Islands in May 2013. We like beaches and want to stay away from the tourist posh resorts. Can anyone give me information where to go and what to see. I'm a professional photographer and like photographing exotic people. Thanks

Has anyone come across blogs like Expat Exposed and E2NZ?

I don't know whether they are true or not.

Tahiti/Moorea stray dogs

I have heard that there are a lot of stray dogs in Tahiti and rest of Polynesian islands. Am going there this winter. Does anybody know of AR organizations and/or shelters on Tahiti and Moorea where I could offer my help? Mainly dollars + by spreading the word about them in AR communities in the North. I don't mind + am used to hands on work but will only be there for appr 10 days so might not be of much use....
Veryveryvery grateful for any kind of info on this
Thanx :)

Car hire

We are looking to hire a car the drive along the queens road. We will be travelling at the beginning of January and will be looking to stop at the Kula Eco park. Will we need a 2 or 4 wheel drive car? Is it doable at this time of year?

Thanks

Good snorkeling in Palau, Micronesia?

I want to snorkel Palau and Micronesia (I'm not a diver) and wonder if there are any inexpensive, friendly places to stay and snorkel off a house reef in Micronesia. I don't need luxury or a white-sand beach, just want to be in the water all day and hopefully meet some nice local people.
Thanks!

Cooking Classes in Suva

I will be travelling to Suva, Fiji and I am interested in taking a cooking class while I am there that focuses on traditional meals and using locally grown items. Can anyone recommend one?

Yasawas in the new year

Hi, my boyfriend and I are going to Fiji over new years and have booked The Ultimate Lei package with Awesome Adventures. Everything has been paid for but I just want to get an idea on Korovou Eco Tour Resort, has anybody been there and whats it like? I don't particularly like the look of it so would appreciate it if somebody gave me a heads up so I could decide on changing the package.
Thanks.

Koulnoe Village and Hienghene

Does anyone know whether Koulnoue Village in Hienghene is closed over Nov/Dec?

Their bookings website is showing that there are no rooms available for the 2 months and Wotif has nothing available. Rooms stopped being available in mid-oct.

I have emailed the address from their website, but have had no response.

Does anyone know of where to find contact details for any other accommodation in that area?

And finally, if I was to stay at Poindimie for 2 nights, would it be worth driving the 1 hr from Poindimie to Hienghene to take a look around?

Cheers,

Might Be Hope For Tahiti Yet!

Many people would love to visit Tahiti but are scared off by stratospheric prices-and someone in govt has come up with a solution.

Of course the usual suspects have reacted with predictable outrage but that's to be expected.

Tahiti President’s Home-Stay Tourism Plan Criticized
Hotel Federation head: hosting visitors for free ‘pathetic’

There has been a negative reaction in French Polynesian tourism circles to President Oscar Temaru’s proposal for people to host tourists for free.

Last week, Mr Temaru surprised the public by launching a campaign with the slogan "Welcome Home’, saying there was not enough tourist accommodation.

He says hosting tourists for free will offer a great cultural exchange and people would no longer leave with the impression that Tahiti was expensive.

Shopping in Nadi

I will be arriving in Nadi in about 2 weeks, have a couple of days there before heading to Kadavu. Can anybody suggest a couple of places to buy casual clothing in Nadi? What are the available size ranges? I am about a USA size 14-16. I need a couple of pairs of shorts and light weight tops. I am not going to find these things in Canada in October, unless I pay the crazy prices at a cruise wear shop.
