Ferry to Eua

Hi all, can anyone please tell me if it is possible to pre-book the ferry from Nuku'Alofa to Eua n if so how? Also, is there
a preferred ferry out of the two? Thank you in advance.

Accommodation on Eua

Hi, hoping someone can help. A few years ago i was told about accommodation
on Eua. It was described as being perched on the top of a hill/cliff with the
common area over looking the ocean n the passing whales. Can't remember
what it was called though. Does anyone recognise it from this description? We are
Hoping to visit this September. Your help would be very much appreciated.
Thanks, Sandy

Getting to Vava'u - alternative to flying

Hi - I was wondering if anyone can help with an alternative way of getting to Vava'u than flying with Real Tonga.

We are going to be in Tonga in August and I'm not so keen to book with them in case there are no flights in August...

I've been looking for the passenger ferry online, have found a website that advertises it but no way to book, no prices and no schedule. So not very helpful. That was www.fisa.to

Does anyone have any more (reliable) information about this?? Is it likely to actually run???

So as there will be 4 of us, we wondered if it is possible to charter a yacht or something? The whole point of going to Vava'u is to see the whales anyway, so does anyone know of any operators who would do a multi-day trip from Tongatapu to Vava'u with whale spotting and diving in between?

So far I've only been able to find operators in either island group, but doesn't lo... more »

Where to find a traditional Umu on 'Eua

Do you want to have the unique experience like us, of a traditional Tongan eating event - an Umu?

Please read our story below, and you'll be able to enjoy this amazing event with the local people, without paying tour operators or middle men for the privelege... we are only writing this to help our friend who would like to do this more often, because we had such an incredible time getting to know him and his family, and were very lucky to experience a truly authentic part of Tongan culture.

We are two travellers, Mark and Richard, who visited the wonderful island of 'Eua in April 2013. We stayed at the Hideaway, which we highly recommend, and got to know one of the guides who does the guided walks around the island - Sione.

He was a really great guide, conversationist, and teacher of the island and it's secrets and traditions. He very kindly offered to take us, as the first ev... more »

Real Tonga Airline

Hi folks on the ground in Tonga. I would really appreciate up-to-date info on whether 'Real Tonga' is operating one plane or two as they promised by 1 April. I'm wanting to book flights for June to join a yacht in Vava'u, but I just don't trust the airline. The internet has nothing recent, which makes me suspicious. I know Real Tonga's website lists daily flights, but are they flying?

Where to stay for Sat & Sun on Tongapatu?

I'm headed to Ha'aipi and arrive too late on Tongapatu to get there on Saturday. No trans on Sunday so I need to find a place where I can enjoy the weekend and maybe find some clear water to do some snorkeling. Any suggestions?

Hi, Can anyone recommend a way to get from Tonga to Samoa, air, ferry, swimming, etc (joking about the last one).

I can only find flights going via Auckland and that's a bit expensive and timely.

cheers,

Dan

Tongan Itinerary Late March/Easter

Hi,

I will be in Tonga from March 21 to April 2.
I’m flying straight to Vava’u on the 22nd and am looking for a few accommodation options.
So far I’m looking at spending 2 or 3 nights at Mafana Beach Backpackers, Ofu Island back packers and am open to a 3rd option at this stage. I was going to stay at Tapana Island (the Spanish restaurant) but its fallen through unfortunately. If no other options ill just keep it at these 2.

I’m trying to decide whether it’s worth squeezing in a few nights in Ha’apai or not. Or am I better off spending this time in Vava’u? (i.e. the 3rd accommodation option)

Rough Itinerary at this stage is

Mar 21 (Thur) – Fly in 9pm – Tongatapu
Mar 22(Fri) – Fly to Vava’u. Stay in Neiafu to get bearings maybe?? Any recommendations for the night?
Mar 23 (Sat) – Ofu Island
Mar 24 – (Sun) Ofu Island
Mar 25 (Mon) – Mafana Island
Mar 26 (Tues) – Mafana... more »

Whale watching/swimming Tongatapu

Hi there,
Just wondering if anyone has done whale watching from the main island (Tongatapu)? Deep Blue diving look good, however we will be in Tonga October 20th to 28th so are unsure if it will be worth it. Does anyone know if the whales are still hanging around then?
Cheers,
Sarah
