THIS BRANCH DOES NOT COVER AUSTRALIA AND NEW ZEALAND; please post your questions on the AUS & NZ branch.
For questions related to Hawaii, you might also want to check out the USA branch. And as quite a few people visit the South Pacific for scuba diving, also check out the <a target=new...

According to NORAD Santa has already visited those of you currently in the islands. A very Merry Christmas and hope he was good to all of you and to all of your island hosts.
Cheers.

Here's wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas and all the best for 2010. Wish I was basking in a warm Island Christmas again and not shivering her up north, but one can't have everything I guess.

My husband and I are planning our 10th anniversary trip to Fiji next year for 10 days in early November. We're leaning toward 5 days in the Yasawas and a few days in Taveuni. We don't want to be in the hustle and bustle of a busy town, but can't be completely remote either due to my limited mobility. I walk with a cane due to painful arthritis in my feet. We're 30, so we're past being interested in the college party islands but not wanting to restrict ourselves to senior citizen activities either. Willing to pay Mid-range, looking for a romantic location. Snorkeling and white sand beach relaxing are a must (no kids with us!); my husband also wants to golf and try hunting (Taveuni?) Where should we go that will be accessible for me, but not boring for him? Has anyone stayed at Nanunya Island Resort in the Tree House bures? I'm wondering if I can make it up the hill...How about ... more »

Hi,
Wanting to take the family to fiji for 3 to 4 weeks in December 2010. A couple of questions:
1. What is the weather like this time of year - particularly Taveuni Island?
2. Can anyone suggest a large holiday rental or two 2/3 bedroom rentals, preferably beach front and pool?
thanks in advance!!!

If you have some tips or some have to see or to do please let me also now!
Thanks in advance.

Wow – What an awesome experience.
I want to go back – soon. I didn’t want to spend all my time in a 4 or 5 star resort, - I wanted to find the real Fiji.
I found the website fijihomestays.com and explained to them what I wanted to do and they organized a stay for me at two villages.
From the resort after a couple of days of unwinding - I was picked up and taken to Denerau Marina and then taken on about a 5.5 hour boat ride to a village in the Yasawa’s.
The website warned me that this home stay in the village of Marou was not fully functional yet as it was new. What an incredible experience into how people live in a village on an Island in the South Pacific.
Power in the village is by way of a Diesel Generator which is turned on only 3 hours per day at 8pm. The village of Marou still needs to provide some necessities for a Home stay to work successfully, if ladies ar...

I am on my way to the South Pacific, most likely in April or May, for a 1-2 month Dive/snorkel/travel trip. My destinations have not been solidified but so far I'm thinking: Fiji, Tonga, Samoa, Vanuatu, PNG and maybe the Solomon Islands for a one week live-abord dive trip. I have no budget restrictions. Can anyone make any suggestions for live-aboards for a 1 week dive trip? Where and why do you suggest where you have suggested? Anything I need to know or should know about diving in that part of the world? Are any of the places I mentioned so similar that i may eliminate some? If so, which? Any information will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

I know that you guys were upset about Survivor Samoa, but anyway: does anyone here know where the next Survivor (US version) is being played out? Jeff only announced " an island deep in the South Pacific".

My wife and I (late 20's) are considering flying to Fiji in early January. We may travel around Indonesia, Australia, or elsewhere from there, or we may stay in Fiji for a while.
We love tropical places, and we've been to Panama, Costa Rica, Brazil (Floripa so maybe sub-tropical), Mexico, Hawaii, and Australia (no further north than the Whitsundays though so not really tropical). How does Fiji compare to these places as far as the vibe from the people, the beach, the jungle, and the ocean?
I read on the Lonely Planet Fiji page that the political situation could become troublesome?
Is it a good season?

Hi,
My friend and I are hoping to go to Fiji next year when we are in Australia. We have been reading up about it and the Lomoiviti group looks far more interesting than the more popular Yasawas Group. We are not big on drinking or partying, and it seems that certain parts of Fiji are popular because of this! We are looking for interesting towns, beautiful beaches and maybe some hiking and diving! But we are on a tiny budget... but luckily, we want to keep accommodation basic anyway (no fancy hotels!)
Our main questions are:
Is Yasawas area as bad as it sounds (busy beaches, lots of tourists and partying)?
And is the transport around the Lomitivi group that hard? Because if it isn't....then I think our decision is already made! However we cant find much info on this and are not sure how easy it will be.
We have thought about spending around 2 weeks here, but we...

Looking to go to guam , palau and saipan in late feb/mar and have been having trouble getting info on the islands. There is not one australian travel company i can find that has brochures on it, and even lonely planet do not publish a guidebook on it..
Does anyone know of any tour companies that I can contact regarding tours? Is there any nice little hotels that arent too expensive to stay at? Is the nightlife/restaurant area in guam all close together , so you can walk around easily. Does anyone know anything about couchsurfing? Is it legitimate or is it some sort of scam?
Cheers
