The itinary for our trip from Moscow to Bangalor is nearly finished. We are re thinking over the section between UB to BJ. We did plan to take the TMRW direct from UB to BJ then 5 days in BJ then fly to chengdu for a 5 day stay before flying to Lhasa. Yes we only have ten days in China which is a pain!
We have been advised that there are alternative and cheaper options to get to China. We are thnking of traveling to Detong? staying there for the sites and then a stop over at the great wall and on to BJ.
I am slightly worried about the border crossing so dont want to much scrutany, so walking across the border is probably not a great idea?
We are also thinking this is the best option for the great wall, hopefully visiting a less touristy site and then moving onto BJ?
We are planning to leave UB on the 9th of Feb.
Any advise much apreciated. Thanks. more »
I am looking at booking a flight to Japan from London for this July.
I have found flights for around 670 GBP, does anyone know of websites or companies that offer flights any cheaper?
I read in Japan Today that the new rule prevents people having cheaper tickets from sitting in the front row when the stadium is not crowded during the junior wrestlers fights.
The article applies it to the Tokyo arena but do you know if it also applies to the Nagoya one ?
My name's Luca, I'm Italian and I'm 23.
I'm gonna take a trip to Hong Kong this year (dates still TBD).
It's the first time I visit Hong Kong, and I don't speak Cantonese.
I'm looking for a local girl (aged 20-25) willing to show me around, and maybe help me a little with the language.
If interested... PLEASE REPLY!!!
Is it against the law or not to charge foreigners a higher price for a hotel apartment in China?
When I went yesterday to a hotel apartment, first they said that they didn't have anything that I could rent (although I realised it couldn't have been true, because I went there the day after and they could show me around to three empty apartments without problems, even more empty apartments were available). Then, I said I had been living here in the city for a while so they realised they wouldn't get rid of me, so I could come back later and they would see if they could arrange something.
On a big poster outside their office, it says 1200 RMB/month. Then, I was asked to pay 1400 RMB/month. I asked why, and received some vague explanation. Some other Chinese came in while I were there and asked straight out how much an apartment was a month. The staff avoided to answer (because I wa... more »
if my trip budget is not more than ￥125000, how many days can I plan in Japan? Can I get more cheaper with a suitable #day of JR rail pass?
am planning on visiting China. The main focus of my travels are minority groups and xishuangbanna in yunnan is a perfect match. I'd like to trek for several days and learn about the culture.
My questions are:
- did anyone visit also northern vietnam / northern laos areas and how do they compare to 'banna? which one did you like most?
- any recommendations when it comes to treks? anyone would like to share maps / sketches / gps tracks?
- preferably I'd like to take a local speaking guy with me, any recommendations/contact for a fixer?
Thanks a lot,
I'd really love to visit a neighborhood sento or onsen. I live in Nishi Nippori so i'm close to Nippori, Yanaka, Tabata, Sendagi, Nezu, Yushima and other areas. I'd love to visit one within walking distance but i'm up for anything. My Japanese is pretty poor so any advise on what to look for sign wise, or say to communicate basic things like renting soap or towels would be appreciated.
I have an itinerary dilemma that I need some help with:
In March I'm going to India on a semester-long trip through the Himalayas with National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS). This ends at the beginning of June and my friend and I are planning on backpacking around India, and possibly Nepal for the month of June. At the very end of June through July there is a summer exchange documentary program in Seoul that I am very interested in doing for a variety of reasons. However, when I first came up with the idea to go to Seoul, I underestimated the distance between that and India, which unfortunately affects the price of flights for even a one-way ticket to Seoul.
Basically, I would like some suggestions or innovative ideas on how to get to from point a (flexible origin in India) to point b (Seoul) with the least amount of harm to my wallet. I have looked somewhat i... more »
People sometimes post on here about getting EFL qualifications.
For anyone in Tokyo (or surrounds) who is wanting to get certification, there are a series of TESOL workshops coming up that are reputable & cheap. They will go throughout 2012. It's a pretty rare opportunity to have this kind of comprehensive training.
I have no financial interest in it (and actually it's cheap enough to be a public service announcement).
I'm from the united states and I have the following convictions:
2 Minor in Posession of alcohol charges (19 and 20 years old)
1 Operating a Vehicle while under the influence of alcohol (I only blew a .05, but since I was only 20 years old I was charged)
It sounds worse than it actually is. In most countries I wouldn't even have a criminal record since my drinking would have been legal. I absolutely love korea and the culture. Would my criminal record prevent me from getting a job there?
In October and November of 2011, I spent a month in China and Tibet. I entered Tibet through Xining, which is north of the TAR on the Tibetan Plateau. Yes, that is also Tibet!
I contacted my friend, Wangden Tsering, founder of SnowLion Tours who hired an immaculate van with experienced driver to pick me up at the airport. He chose my hotel in Xining, which was the best one I'd ever stayed in in 5 visits to that city. I told him exactly what I wanted to see, and do including a picture of a place I wanted to see, but could not name. Wangden came to my hotel, went over all the details with me, and gave me an estimated cost which I thought was very fair for what I was asking. To do this, I had to trust him as I am a 57 year old female, and was traveling on my own.
Everything was just as Wangden promised. He knows the villages and vallies as we know our own back yards... more »
Hey people, im planning a 6 week adventure in august to southeast asia. Starting in Hong Kong, working my way through Vietnam, Laos, Thailand, and Malaysia, flying home from Singapore. At the moment im going solo, but if there is anyone else doing a similar trip, or will be in any of these countries around then, it would be awesome to have some company along the way. Im also greatful for any advice/guidance from anyone who knows these areas and whats on offer. Im not really tied to any specific plans as of yet so could be flexible to work with other people, i just want to do and see as much as possible, loads of fun stuff.
I want to get from Beijing to Chengdu with the fast train (the one that takes around 27-31 hrs). do I need to book the ticket in advance (where)? I'm going in August. I was hoping to get a ticket once I land in Beijing and make the trip a couple of days later. is that possible?
Hi, maybe I will go to China once more next autumn. I usually prefer October after the golden week, but this time I should be back in my homecountry at least at the beginning of the 2nd week of October. So I would like to place a 3-week-trip at the latest return-date possible. I could plan my trip that I will spend the last days in Hongkong during golden week. Is Hongkong very affected by the golden week holidays? I hoped, that probably in a big city there would be less problems and accomodation would still be prized as usual?
Can anybody give some information about that? Thanks.
