Makes the glass walkway at Zhangjiajie look tame!
We ll be going to china from mongolia, does anybody know what the situation is, concerning the application process for chinese visa at the embassy in ulan bator? What papers are needed and what is the easiest way to get them?
We have read here that last year it was really hard to get the visa in ulan bator...

Good afternoon all
I was wondering if you could help me, I have 19 days in Japan starting late July. Im dead keen on getting a bit of the urban experience but also spending some time in the wilderness, doing some cycling, preferably with a few temples thrown in too. Very keen to climb Mt Fuji too (even though ive read it can be disappointing). Ive attempted to accomodate all this in the below itinearry and would really appreciate your feedback. is it too much travelling time not enough in one place / completely daft (e.g by missing the highlights (Nikko / Hiroshima / kobe) in favour of a spot of cycling/trekking) I realise the route is a little unconventional, throwing in some little port towns instead of the traditional must sees and perhaps this is a mistake - please enlighten me.
Day 4 - 5: Fly to Matsuyama (flights arent expensive at the mo), check out ... more »
I am interested in traveling from the base of Emei Shan to Leshan Buddha and to Zigong in one day. Then take early morning bus to Shunan Bamboo Sea and take direct bus to Chengdu that afternoon evening.
Is this possible? Enough time, or too rushed?
Is the bamboo sea worth visiting? Should I spend more time there??
I am planning a 5 day trip to Tibet in August... this will include two days in Lhasa, and then for the third full day an excursion out of Lhasa.. I was just wondering if anyone can recommend what is best between these three: Ganden Monastery, Samye Monastery and Lake Nam-Tso. Those are the three excursions on offer. Anyone done any of these and recommend one over the other for any reason?
Also, does anyone know of any good travel agencies that are Beijing-based that arrange Tibet tours?
I know there are lots of posts about this, and I have read plenty of them- thanks!
Wondering if I can get some further advice on how we should spend out time in China, flying in and out of Beijing.
Thinking (from reading other forum posts) that a 3 or 4 day loop from Beijing to check out Pingyao Old City, Yungang Grottoes, Wutai Mountain, Qiaojia Mansion, Wanfjia Mansion, Xuankong Temple, the cave-dwelling village, Ying County Wooden Pagoda would be nice- any thoughts?
We will of course see all the sights in Beijing for 3-5 days, and do a hike in the Simatai area of the wall.
Mostly interested in natural scenery, and crazy culture :) Any other recommendations?
we are first timers in china and will start our 6 month travels in chongqing (because we found a cheap Finnair flight going there).
We like to book acco in advance for the first couple of days and where thinking about the Yangzi River Youth Hostel (read somewhere about it). Like to have a littlebit of comfy place to "land" before travelling starts.
Would this be a good choice? or any tips on better alternatives
we are experienced backpackers - a bit "older" , so a (good) bed is appreciated and we would go for a double room
any insights? let me know please.
Looking to do the Tashkurgan to Kashgar bike trip this June 2013. Has anyone done it and have advice? Where to rent a reliable bike, supplies to bring, to use a guide/agency or not, permits, etc etc
Looks like a sick trip. Also, if anyone here is interested in teaming up for it this June then respond here and we can talk details.
I'm heading to Japan on August 16th - flying in to Kansai International and leaving from Tokyo on Sept 2nd. I'll be travelling through areas such as Kansai (Nara & Osaka), Kyoto, Hiroshima, Tokyo as well as several smaller places if time/money allows it. I understand that the best way to get about is by train/Shinkansen and I was told when booking my flights that it's best to order my Japan Rail Pass three months in advance... can anyone confirm this? I haven't heard or read anything about this anywhere else... But if need be, I can book it over the next day or two just in case...
As far as accommodation goes, I also understand that August is one of the busiest tourist periods and spaces in hostels might be tight... Does anyone have any idea when might be the best time to start booking up for places to stay? The only issue I have with booking these places so far in adv... more »
Hi Fellow Travellers,
I have decided that I would like to travel to HK soonish and I just wanted to know ask a few questions as I am going at it alone.
I wanted to know if one week would be long enough to go as I would like a short break just to get away from London. I think its pretty wet in HK atm but still hot right!! I hear that accomodation in HK is very expensive so I just wanted to know how much it would cost to "slum it" i just need a clean bed nothing fancy for about a week.
I would be interested in wandering around, seeing Buddha related tourist places, some Macau action and just absorbing the Chinese culture. (I speak Cantonese a little).
I just looked into the prices and it is c.£500 flights if I leave within next week or so - I would be looking at going for about a week (7 days)
How much should is reasonable accomodation?
What are food prices like relativ... more »
I'm trying to get a DPRK visa and entry/exit stamps applied to my passport. If I apply through the tour company in Beijing, it's all on a separate piece of paper that is collected at the end.
Is it possible to get the visa sticker through the consulate in Hong Kong? If not then where? Can I apply using courier/agents or do I have to personally pick up the passport/visa if I do?
If anybody would like to travel from Kashgar to Osh, there are buses on Monday and Thursday if there are enough people (at least 10) and we have some people interested in going and if you would like to go please go to the bus station or tell the people at uigher tours at the Qini Bagh Hotel Business Center.
The price is 500 yuan

I will be off in June for a trek to Mt. Kailash. Any tips on what to expect for the weather? Is it enough if i have thermals, a woolen coat and a sweater? What can i do to kill the wind-chill? Is a windcheater adequate?
Any tips would be helpful.

Do you know what's the best/fastest way to travel from Siguniang Shan to Songpan, preferably in one day? There's nothing like a bus station here or anyone speaking English. There is a bus going to XiaoJie but that means backtracking for 2 hours. And Chengdu seems like a long way around. Any advice is highly appreciated!
i read somewhere about 5 day non consecutive rail pass, that you can use day of travel at a time . travel for 1 day only use 1 ticket for whole day. we are there at xmas for 6 weeks and would suit our travels better as we having long stays at myoko and nozawa. can someone let me know if they are good and a link for more info.
