One Full Day in Taipei

I have a 26 hour layover in Taiwan in January, so I will spend most of it in Taipei.

Can anyone recommend a good, mid-range hotel and some activities? LP says 2000 New Taiwan Dollars is a good budget for mid-range, so I was thinking of having around 2500 on me. I'm breaking up a long flight from Canada before moving onto Malaysia, so I don't mind splurging a little bit...

Drive or not to drive - South-Western part of Taiwan

Hi,

I am planning a week-long family trip to southern part of Taiwan end of this month. Four adult (up to 55 years old) and my son (4 years old).

We are keen to spend 3 days to cover areas of Alisan, Rueili and Guanziling Hot Springs.

1) I wonder if we can do it with public transport without much hassle. My son will love to take the Alisan train ride, but without a car, I think it may be difficult to reach other places. Any advices on traveling with or without a car in this region will be appreciated.

2) Is there a good place we can use as a base so that we can spend all 3 nights while touring the region?

Best regards,

Philip

when we searched for KL to Taipei flights cheapest ones were Air asia quoting 604 MYR and EVA AIR quoting 753 MYR per person for a return flight.
Kindly advise us,which one is better and any other cheaper alternative available.

Taipei to Macau - how booked out at around Xmas ?

I get the impression that flights from Taipei to Macau are like a commuter train, turn up and go. Is this correct ?
Anyone live in Taipei to confirm this ?
I am considering NOT booking an onwards flight from Taiwan, but leaving it open - Taiwan seems so interesting I don't want to pin myself down.

I've found Air Macau to offer an amazing number of flights to Macau and return to Taipei. http://en.airmacau.com.mo/
Most of those flights are for gambling I assume.
Most are 6000NT or so... expensive

I'm making a TravelTaiwanBlog for my trip in December.at
