Hi

Me and my husband are thinking of travelling to Israel for a month this summer and want to camp ( amongst other things) for a few days near Tel aviv. Does anybody know if there are any campsites nearby and any link for websites with more information??

Thanks loads

Visa collection in Istanbul

Just thought I'd post an update on my experiences collecting my visa at the Istanbul consulate as there's been a lot of talk about the Iranian visa situation lately.

Firstly, according to the person I spoke to, there's no ban on tourists entering by land borders: he even recommended that I go in by land rather than by air. Obviously it's worth checking multiple sources on that as it's not great to get turned away at a border, but the message in Istanbul is that it's fine.

Secondly, the consulate here is apparently very busy at the moment, and it's taking around 10 days to process applications even with the authorisation code. So if you're applying for a visa to collect in Turkey, probably best to check ahead if there's still a backlog, or go for another consulate if possible.

Sleeping in the Oman desert

Hello,

in March we are traveling to Oman. We would like to sleep one night in a camp in the desert either close to Sur or to Salalah. Do you have any recommendations? The camp 1000 Nights is unfortunately already full.

Thank you.

Regards,
Chris

Lag B'mer, Sunday 28.04.2013

Hi

Lag B’Omer falls in the time I’ll spend in Israel. Trains will run on this day, some buses (all of them?) also. But I can’t find out if shops are open or not.
I’m especially interested of opening times of the Grand Canyon Mall in Haifa. This mall opens End of Shabbat - 22:30 according an tourist site. The homepage of Grand Canyon Mall (http://www.grandcenyon.co.il/) is only in Hebrew and Arab and it says
שעות פעילות:
א’-ה’ 10:00-22:00
ו’: 09:30-15:00
מוצ”ש: חצי שעה מצאת השבת ועד 23:00
So I guess it's open until 23:00 after Shabbat...

As feasts begin in the evening (Saturday) I could imagin that the mall stays closed on 27.04.2013? Am I right?
Thank you very much for helping

Quickest way to get from Petra to Tel Aviv or Jerusalem

Hi all,

I want to travel from Petra - after a night perhaps in Wadi Rum - to Tel Aviv.

Geographically the best way seems to cross into Israel via the King Hussein Bridge but most posts on here seem to say go via Eilat. Which to me seems to be going south to go back north again.

If anyone has done this trip Id really appreciate any advice on the best route and how long the journey is likely to take.

Also is it worth spending a night in Wadi Rum in February or will it be cold and cloudy?

Thanks in advance
Dave

Hello,

Just wondering if 450 Euros is a decent price for flights from Europe, in my case Vienna? Has anyone flown for cheaper? These flights are on Emirates.

Hostel Kuwait

Good news,

I was surprised last December to see that the boy scouts of Kuwait City still operate their youth hostel. It's easy to get to by public transportation and by far the cheapest place I stayed in the Gulf!

The hostel is an annex of the Boyscout HQ in Beirut street.
-Dorm is 3 KD (only for students, just say you're student and it's fine) in an annex. I had a room for me alone. Nothing fancy, 3 beds each room and shared facilities. The shower is hot! :-)
-Single rooms are available for 15 KD in the main building, double 25 KD. I didn't check them out though, so no idea if they're value for money.

The biggest problem is that they seem to be only open from about 16.30 till 21.00hr, Once you've checked in, the dorms are always accessible though. I wouldn't know about the rooms in the main building as it looked solidly locked down.

Getting there from the airport: take... more »

Moving to Muscat

Hello!
I am shortly going to be moving to Muscat for work, and have questions relating to living and working there with my boyfriend. I have read so many blogs/forums/books etc. and people seem to give different advice, so interested to see what people on here think and know about the situation.

we are not married, and we understand that it is illegal to live unmarried in Oman; however, from reading several sources of information, we have been that this is rarely reported when you keep to yourselves. WE have been told that you can rent an apartment through an agency and that the lease is only in 1 name, so not having to hand over a marriage certificate with a joint lease. Can anyone provide any advice on this please and suggest ways of living together easily without being married initially??

Also, we've been told that unless he gets sponsored by a company, he is not allowed to ... more »

Cheapest way to visit Petra form Eilat

Guys,

I've seen many posts about the "taxi mafia" and "visiting Jordan and Petra" in general and I appreciate all the answers and information provided.

However, I believe it is of our interest to understand what the cheapest way is to get to visit Petra from Eilat. I've talked to some tourist agencies and guides and they are charging around USD 250 for 1 complete day in Petra (including all costs, transfers, fees and including lunch). As the price is extremely high and believing that many people face the same information, I'm wondering what would be the cheapest way to visit Petra. Maybe getting a taxi to the border, paying the fees, than getting a taxi (nothing to do about the taxi mafia apparently), then paying the entrance fee in Petra, and then doing the reverse way in the end of the day.

Does anyone know how much this would cost? And is it possible to have a guide in Pe... more »
