diesel and iranian number plates

Hello,
we would like to go to Iran by car in July. I read that we have to buy iranian number plates for the car and it may be difficult to get them.
Some drivers were asked at the border to pay hundrets of € to compensate cheap diesel price or to buy a kind of voucher, other drivers did not.
Has anybody up to date information ?
Thank you.

India-Pakistan-Iran-Turkey over land

Hey,
I"m currently doing a voluntary service in India for one year and in August I want to travel over land from India to Turkey through Pakistan and Iran with a friend. Many people seem to have done the same trip the other way round but has anyone of you done it this way and has experience?
Applying for visas for Pakistan and Iran these days is pretty tough because of the elections thats why I would like to ask for some advice.
1. When I apply for a visa for these two countries should I avoid mentioning I want to cross the border from Quetta to Zehedan?
2. Has anyone experience with the embassies of these countries in Delhi?
I would be very happy to here some experiences from the border crossing. Whats the best way to do it etc.

I really hope the situation in the countries are going to calm down/stay calm in the next weeks...

Israel in July/August, and Europe

I'm going to a conference in Israel in the last week of July. I'd like to go to Europe (Germany, Poland, or Romania) for the first week of August. My dates are roughly July 26th to August 10th. Where do you think I can get the cheapest deals on flights?

If flights to Europe are too expensive, and I wanted to travel elsewhere in the Middle East, where would you recommend as easy to get to?

Thanks!

Jett Bus from Amman to Cairo

Hello, just a quick question regarding the Jett bus from Amman, Jordan to Cairo, Egypt (or Cairo to Amman - not sure which country we'll do first). I'm assuming that this bus will need to cross the red sea via boat, and I've read lots of posts about how unreliable this boat service can be. Someone said that the 1am boat from Aqaba is the vehicle boat and always leaves on time. Is this true? And if so would there be one in the opposite direction? I'm trying to figure out a relatively cheap and reliable way between both countries, and want to avoid flying this leg of the trip to save money. Thanks!

Transit visa for two seperate flights

Hi all,

I know you all get bored with the same old visa questions but somehow I could not find what I am looking for, so bear with me just a minute. Thanks for all the inputs :)!

I plan to travel to Jordan around end of December and I hold a Vietnamese passport. I am checking the flights and see that Emirates/Qatar/Etihad/Turkish all charge at least 1,200 bucks for a return ticket. I dug some more and found that if I fly from Jeddah, the ticket to Amman would be ~150 US$/one way. Combined with some fierce sales from AA I might get a return ticket for around 150-200 US$ less. What worries me is that I need to go through immigration and check in all over again. What do you think the chance for me to get a visa like that (is it counted as transit visa?)? I am a woman traveling solo and has been in Middle East before (Iran).

Again, thanks for your advice! more »

Quick trip to Jordan - Tour group or do it ourselves?

Hello,

My fiance and and I are planning a trip to Africa next September (2014) so am in early stages of planning now, trying to figure out itinerary and travel times etc.

Basically, we will be doing Africa with friends through a tour company for around 3-4 weeks, heading to Egypt on our own for probably around 10 days, then we want to visit Jordan after Egypt (Petra and the Dead Sea at least), then hopefully onto Morrocco if we can for maybe 7-10 days. Unfortunately we might only have a few days spare for Jordan, max 1 week.

I have read that you can hire taxi's to drive you around, so I was thinking if we went from Cairo to Aqaba we could then get a driver/taxi/bus(?) to take us to Petra (for maybe 2d/1n) then onto Amman for a couple of days (either visiting Dead Sea on the way or as a day trip from Amman). Would 4-5 days be long enough for this? I'm not sure of travel times.... more »

Interesting look at people of Tehran

This is a very nice and sympathetic collection of photos and information about people living in Tehran. Worthwhile:

Heat in August & September?

I'm planning a two month backpacking trip in August and September and REALLY want to visit the middle east.

I've heard about the insane heat in the desserts during August and September...is it so hot that it would be miserable, and seriously limiting for activities?

Could I just do day trips and activities very early and very late in the day (not sure how long the days are or if groups go out early and late)?

SIDE NOTES:

I would like to see the famous sites but also just wander a bit, so I'll be walking a lot
I'm fair skinned
I live in south Texas, so I'm no stranger to heat between 85-105F (~30-40C)
I'm looking at Israel, Jordan, Morocco, and Egypt the most.

Any tips or ideas are much appreciated!

Recently Approved Iranian Visas

Hi fellow travellers..

I've posted a few days ago about struggling to get into Iran..

Has anyone had an Iranian Tourist/transit visa approved in the last month or so...?

If so, can you please post how long it took, if you had any problems, what site your used, etc...

I've applied via iranvisa.com, using their "urgent" service ie: 4 working days, it's been 11 working days now and all I've had is an email stating there has been many recent rejections of visas, despite the assurances given to me prior to applying..

Any info would be much appreciated..

Many thanks..

visa extension in Orumiye

Hello
we like to go to Iran by car in mid-july for 4-5 weeks. At the embassy I was told that I can get only 2 weeks visa. My question : it is still possible to get visa extension without problems ? We will start the itinerary on Orumiye, Kermanshah and Hamedan. It is a good idea to ask as soon as possible for the visa extension ? Do anybody made visa extension in those cities ?
Thank you for any information.
