Al- Jazeera TV in Arabic dialects

I read that Al Jazeera opened a TV station not only in MSA, but in Egyptian.
Did it open any other TV stations in Arabic dialects?

Extended Transit Time in Doha

I will be flying to Rome with a stopover at Qatar. Recently Qatar Airways made changes to the flight itinerary which resulted to my initial transit of 2 hours to be extended to 9 hours.

Seems like I will be stuck in Doha airport from 4.50am to 1.50pm. What can I do during those hours? Will there be any cafes to sit back n relax? Can I make a quick visit to the city? Or ... Should Qatar Airways be providing us any accommodations? This is my first flight with stopover. I am not so sure how it is usually done.

good evening Doha!

Dear all,
I have a quite long stop over at the Doha International on the 25th of April. My plane is scheduled to arrive at the airport at 6 p.m. and I have to wait until 1 p.m on the next day. Is there anyone in a similar situation who would like to hit the city? If yes, perhaps we can organise ourselves and enjoy Doha by night.

All the best,
Mirrorball

Khor Al-Adaid

Hello forum -

I'm traveling solo in Qatar from about 8 - 13 May. I'm looking to either join a one-day or overnight tour from Doha to Kor Al-Adaid. Everything I've seen so far is private. I'm also open to hooking-up with a few other travelers to make our own tour. I'm flexible on days.

There are 3 tour companies in LP:
- Alpha Tours - not found online
- Gulf Adventures - not found online
- Arabian Adventures - has tours, but they all appear to be private, I've sent an email to inquire

I found this 1 not in LP:
- Net Tours, but I could not find any reviews and it seems pricy. http://www.nettours.com.qa/excursion.html

Thanks for your time!

Looking for Travellers in Doha - April 3rd & 4th

Hey everyone,

I'm going to be in Doha for 2 full days on April 3rd and 4th next week. I really want to go on a dune-bashing desert trip, but as I am travelling alone and most of the tours require a minimum number of guests, it is going to be more expensive. So, I just wanted to shoot a post out there to see if anyone might be there at the same time and wants to get together a small group for one of these tours, or if anyone has any ideas on the cheapest way to get into the desert as an individual. I'm open to any suggestions!

Thanks and happy travels.

Is it worth visiting Doha on my way to Eastern europe

As the title suggests, I am interested to know if its worth stopping over in Doha for a few days whilst on my way to Croatia. Is Doha similar to Dubai.

Is there anything to see in the surrounding area? How long would you suggest staying? Or is it not worth it?

many thanks

Taxis at the airport in the wee hours of the night

My wife and I will be arriving in Doha around 1:40 AM. We hope to take a taxi to my son's apartment in downtown Doha. Are there taxis available at that hour, is it safe enough to just take one and give him the address? Or is it something we should try to arrange ahead of time.

Thanks,
Max

Qatar Airways ... an awful experience!

Qatar Airways currently has a massive TV campaign saying "Five Star Airline""and "Best airline in the world." Well, I just returned from the Philippines to Brussels with Qatar and my experience was a nightmare.

The flight from Manila to Doha was fine and I arrived at around 4:30 am, with a scheduled 8:40 departure to Brussels. However when boarding time rolled around at 7:30am, it was posted that the flight was delayed. Everyone had to hang around the departure gate continuously, as no verbal flight announcements are made at the Doha airport. No drink or food vouchers were offered during the long wait. Finally at 12 noon we were informed that the "technical problems had been solved" and were allowed to board the plane.

However once on board, we sat there for an additional THREE HOURS while they continued to work on their technical problems. The stewardesses did not even serv... more »

Oryx lounge

Hi,
I've read some of the posts but have a few questions. I arrive about midnight and have a 24 hours stopover. Could I pay for the lounge until morning ($40), leave my bags at the airport, then go into town, returning later to catch my flight? Is there a time limit for entry into the loung?
Many thanks for any answers

I am writing from Nigeria. I want to know how one can use a 30 days hotel sponsored tourist visa to get a job in qatar. How can I quickly find a sponsor that is willing to employ me within the short period I am eligible to stay in qatar as a tourist.

Can I use Iran as a base to launch myself towards getting a job in Iran. Can I rush to Iran to renew my qatar visa as soon as it expire within the 30 days of my stay. thanks.

City-hopping Middle East

Hi,

Around Christmas & newyears period I will be spending 16 days (14 without the flight days) in the Middle East. I fly to Doha, but having two weeks, I want to see some other places too, like Bahrein, Kuwait and UAE, as most of these places aren't too interesting except for the main city(ies). How many days does each country deserve?

I was considering: Qatar 3 days, Bahrein 2 days, Kuwait 4 days, UAE 5 days, sounds like a good plan or not? Any sequence that I should follow in visiting those countries? I prefer starting with stupid places and ending with the most interesting.

Which place should I be for new years to find a party?
Any info about diving centers in these countries would be really appreciated!!!

I know Oman is much nicer, but I've been there before and always try to visit some new places.

thx

Hello Forum

Hello Thorn Tree Forum,

I'm new here. My name is Dave. I'm here in Doha for a work project for the next 6 months (minimum), maybe more. I've been in San Diego for nearly the past decade of my life, prior to that I'm from east coast (New Jersey with some time in New England). Married a year and this is my first time living outside of the US.

My wife is still in San Diego. As I'm working 6 day weeks / 10 hour days out here we decided it would be best for her to stay home (she has nieces, family stuff to take care of, and I just took her away from San Diego for 3 months while I lived on the East Coast for a different work project). We talk often though, so it's not a worry.

Anyway, my purpose for coming to the forum is to talk about travel. I'm a fan of traveling, but most of what I have done has been pretty localized in North America. I've been all up and down the Pacif... more »
