I leave Cuba 5:40 am. Not sure when I arrive. I'm trying to get to Hotel Catedral (to see if they have a room with a balcony). If not head over to Rioja. So what would be a taxi cost? Is there a way to skirt normal airport cue? How about Metro? Are these hotels walkable between them? And? How big is the Zocalo? 5 blocks by 5 blocks or 1/2 mile square. I can't get a fix on it thanks. Ps: I leave tomorrow at midnight to Cuba and probably wont be able to check the internet. Thanks
I was fascinated by Chris0daniel´s slide show and articles about all of these places, including his visit to the hot spring falls in Hidalgo, whose name I do not remember off hand. I hope this message gets his attention, as he does not normally answer his private messages quickly. I am particularly interested in visiting the remaining areas of cloud forest and the waterfalls surrounding the area around Cuetzalán, and I would love to hike around that cute little town of Xochitlán as well. I know that Chris did all of this by bus, and I did a little analyzing of Google maps to see how he did this. It would appear that if you want to visit Cuetzalán, you need to first go back to one of the towns that lies before the turnoff to Cuetzalán, and get a bus or combi from there to Xochitlan. Is that right?
Would it be realistic and relatively quick to visit all three, starting with Zacatán (... more »
Shalom amigo's y amiga's!
So I'm seeking advice from people who have experienced Xmas & NYE in Mexico.
Where is a good place for a solo traveller to spend Xmas in Mexico?
Ideally I'd like there to be some surf as well as a vibrant party scene!
Was thinking Puerto Escondido as I know the waves won't be lacking but not sure on the nightlife scene?
Another option was Tijuana.
Any advice on good Hostels to be also much appreciated!
Will be travelling solo so if anyone's in the same boat be sure to high5 me!
Hoping someone can shed some light!!
I reside in the UK on a Polish passport although left Australia on my Australian passport. I am travelling to Mexico, Cuba and Guatemala and obviously have to leave and re-enter UK on my Polish passport but was hoping to enter/leave Mexico, Cuba on my Australian passport... is this possible? Apparently if you leave and enter a country on the same passport you satisfy requirements but not sure whether it would cause any problems in Mexico, Cuba and Guatemala. And if not will i be hassled with a Polish passport?
What should I do???
Thanks a million in advance!
So i'm heading overseas in late october for my first trip to Mexico! and I'am definitely going to be participating in some the day of the dead festivities, however i need some help deciding on a location to do so! I'm tossing up between Isla Janitzio near Patzcuaro or Oaxaca, i hear both are good. What i'm hoping to get out of the experience is see some amazing art and costumes with lots of vibrant colours and some partying also. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
So it seems that many insurance companies that sell Mexican auto insurance (e.g., Sanborn's) won't provide full coverage for cars that are older than 10 (sometimes 15) years. They will only provide liability coverage. So in the event your car is totaled or stolen, the replacement value of an older vehicle isn't covered. I have an older vehicle that I would like to be able to drive in Mexico, but not if I can't get full coverage.
Any advice/recommendations? Thanks.
I'd like to hear any information that anyone has re: municipios and towns west of Huajuapan in the Mixteca region of Oaxaca. This not a touristy area at all but there are paved highways that wind through the mountains to the little towns. I have been to San Marcos Arteaga. But I haven't been to Santiago Tamazola ( where I've been invited to spend a few days) and visit the other towns along the highway that loops to the north and then back to Huajuapan. Anyone been there or have anything to report?
I'm planning on going to Cancun and Belize City this September and would like to visit Tulum. What's the best way to do that? I'm in Cancun for 4 nights and plan on visiting Chichen Itza while there. Should I just do a day trip to Tulum while I'm in Cancun? Or should I stop in Tulum on my way to Belize City? Or should I go to Belize City first, then Cancun?
Hi Forum -
So, I will be travelling in Baja in a small, old, (yet very reliable RV) and would like to stay put somewhere for a month or two.
I am a 34 year old artist and would like to just stay put and paint and work on some writing.
I'm soliciting suggestions on locations - Ideally I'd find somewhere not too touristy, kind of small, near a beach, and somewhat fun/interesting.
I am currently gravitating towards Todos Santos, but wondering if anyone else has any thoughts. I will have a small scooter as well so I can
either head into a town for socializing or picking up supplies, or explore beaches nearby - so slightly remote is okay.
I am also open to villages or towns where I can rent a cottage or apartment for a month (as long as I can safely park my RV.)
My budget for accomadations is around $400/month. Thanks so much for any advice/recs. Can't wait to get down ... more »
In the spring of 2013 I'm hoping to cross from Mexico in to the US under the VWP. Obviously I don't need an ESTA as I won't be arriving by air but would like to know if there is anyone from the UK that has had any problems crossing into the US.
My partner and I are moving to Oaxaca in August and would greatly appreciate some help with deciding on an area to live in. I work from home and cafes and she got a job teaching in Xochimilco. We would like to be within walking distance (15-20 min max) of her school, but other than that are open to living anywhere. We would like to be around some fun stuff and in a safe and nice area. I will arrive the last week in July to find our new home and really appreciate any help or advice you all can offer. Thanks in advance!
So I've spent a few weeks now in Guanajuato and have loved it! But it seems that I got the dates wrong for my trip and have 1 extra unplanned week to kill before I fly out. I'm looking to travel close by and maybe to a beach, not spend too much, and stay in relatively safe areas. Any suggestions on place to visit/ways to get there?
Hi fellow travelers, any ideas on how to rent a car without a credit card? I searched for info but I'm finding that the CC is mandatory, they allow you to pay in diff ways but the reserveation requires a deposit fee of US$400-600 depending on the company, and this can only be made with the credit card.
YES I HAVE an international credit card and already used it to rent a car, buy flight tickets, etc... but it expired and the bank has issues giving me the new one, as usual they offer me heaven but I don't think the card is going to reach me before I leave (next week). I'm traveling with a friend, she has an international CC but due to ghost charges she reported it and the bank is sending a new one with a new #... but just like my case, there is no way she gets the new one... so, by now, none of us have the international CC.
Nope, money is not a problem. I have an internati... more »
Two australians guys stolen my IPHONE 4S ( new ) in Nuevo Vallarta ( close by Puerto Vallarta ) one of then send me a email and accepted that he stolen my Iphone 4S. They are around Isla Mujeres or close by, please if anyone see these people, dont trust if they try anything.
I hope that not one like me have the same experience.
Take care if you are around in these area.
We are travelling from Mexico City to Cancun and then were thinking of getting a flight to South America, namely Columbia (Bogota). One way flights form Cancun --> Bogota are ~ $500-600. Is there a cheaper way to get to Southern America, or another country, pretty flexible with movements around South America at this stage.
