I'm going to India in about a month for 5 weeks, and was contemplating what the hell I should wear that would be
a) suitable and appropriate, and avoid attracting unwanted attention
b) able to cope with local temperatures (or rather I would be able to cope with Rajhastan in August while wearing it without passing out)
c) able to cope with periodic drenchings of biblical proportions without making me look like I'm entering a wet T-shirt competition (see point a)
and suddenly it occurred to me that it would be much easier to find such clothes when I arrive in Mumbai than in London, and probably would be a lot cheaper too. I'd prefer clothes that can stand up to a reasonable amount of rucksack abuse.
Has anyone got any recommendations for shopping venues? I only have a day in Mumbai, and would prefer to get the shopping done quickly so that I can see one or two si... more »
I am wanting to travel to India in October.
3 places that I am wanting to go to are: Kerala, Goa and Agra (for the Taj Mahal only).
Can anyone recommend if this is viable to do over 10 days and if I fly in to Chennai Airport how I should go about seeing these 3 places...
Any recommendations or suggestions for itinerary would be greatly appreciated.

In early Oct 2013 I plan to visit Uttarkhand.
I like high altitude scenery. If it is close to the mountains and above 3000 M then I am happy.
Is visiting Gangotri feasible with only 2 weeks or so from Delhi to spare? . I know after the rains roads are often blocked or mud baths so I need to be flexible.
I for something that is not requiring 3 whole days on the road from the nearest train station KAUSANI looks like a nice spot to just to relax and walk in clean air.
What do the mountain lovers think? I have seen a lot of HP but none of Uttarkhand.

I am currently in Manali and am hoping to do some volunteering in the next few weeks in Himichal pradesh or in Kashmir. Preferably this would be working on a farm somewhere and I was hoping someone could point me in the direction of some useful websites or if anyone has any personal recommendation that they could give me. Reluctant to spend the $20 on a wwoofing membership especially as it will probably only be for a week or so and I'm heading home in a few weeks.
We will be in Assam in September so Kaziranga National Park will be closed. Does anybody know if the Pobitora National Park will be open in September?
Good morning :
I think (with lots of your help) that I have a rough itinerary. Input appreciated.

3] 23 Sept. Pondicherry to Mamallapuram.

Please post your experience on subject, welcome to both nice and nightmare , and moderate experiences.
While gadding about in the plains of Uttar Pradesh, some females may want to bite me. Its the same everywhere, but here its the Anopheles Mosquito. I know Citronella can swash its buckles against the dengue mosquito, but thats not malaria is it. So does Citronella work against Anopheles, and does it work in UP?
Secondlyyyy I am very fond of Pyrethrin, its a lovely little puddle of joy but how does it fare against those Anopheles b&&&&es in Uttar Pradesh?
Lastly (and Im getting quite near the end now) how do you best cover a mosquito net in Pyrethrin? Put it in a bowl and drag the net through it? Spray the net? Buy a treated one and trust?
Thanks for everything youve done for me over the years,
So Im going to the central Northern states (and Nepal) and I have what is on the face of it a frikkin ignorant question. However, a lifelong traveling lifestyle has led me to value keeping some things constant, and I dont want to be pissing crap and hoping that the phrase "Delhi Belly" will be whimsical enough to turn it into a good story.
What I do know is, accepting that you need to put it in cargo, if you bring tomato ketchup, then you can eat pretty much damned near anything. Thats gonna look like a much better option when youre sick on a curry that was made on the Sun. So my plan is to stick with rice, vegetable rice and noodles, egg rolls and pizza. I imagine next to bread, plain rice is among the safest things you can eat. And thats where the ketchup comes in.
Do they have it there? Are there shops/stalls that sell it, or am I gonna go into the old Ketchup Smuggling bus... more »
My husband and I are planning to travel India during July August, arriving in Delhi in the end of June. We want to do some trekking, and travel the Ladakh area, Himachal Pradesh (spiti valley, kinaur valley etc), Dharamsala and maybe Rishikesh (depending on the weather).
We dont know what's better- to take a flight directly to Leh from Delhi, and begin the trip from Leh to the south, OR starting from Manali area, and arriving in Leh in August.
The main problem is the weather in this season, so if anyone has tips about the best itinerary please answer..
Thanks a lot!!

I am going to be travelling to Agra, Amritsar, Kashmir valley, Ladakh and Delhi during my trip to India. I like to learn a few phrases in the main language when I go places but am getting rather confused. I know there are many different dialects and languages in India, but when researching each different place it gives me a list of languages spoken in that area.
Could anyone please help me with which language it would be best to learn phrases in for each of the places I'm going? Thank you.
I'll be coming to Ahmedabad either this coming Monday or Tuesday (10th or 11th). Just wandering who has been, who is there already, where's the best place to stay to meet other backpackers and anything else you might want to add.
I'm in India at the moment on a one-month visa which I received on arrival. I'm a dual-passport holder and I'm wondering whether it's at all possible to get a new visa on my other passport without leaving the country..? I can't find any info about this anywhere. I'm assuming it would be impossible, but I thought I'd just double check...
