Solo Woman Traveler, looking for"easy"travel in Arunachal P.,India,Sri Lanka
Hello all,
For anyone who has responded to any of my posts via the forum or personal message, THANK YOU! This does not reflect anyone at all, as I am very appreciative of everyone's assistance and guidance. This is just a general question.
I am a woman who will be traveling alone in various parts of India. I feel like I've read enough to get a sense of what I'll be dealing with, precautions I should take, etc. I really want to go to India, and have traveled solo alot before- so I'm willing manage the highs and lows (and hopefully have a good attitude about it). I'll be in India for 6 weeks, and I could see myself potentially wanting some respite. For this reason, there's a little part of me that was thinking about taking a flight down to Sri Lanka for 5-6 days. But then I thought "Hey wait, there have to be some mellow-ish parts of India!" So, I have 2 questions,
1) I was pl...

South India vs North India - which is better in August?
I am about to travel in India for a month in a couple of days and I haven't got much of a plan. I know I only have time for either north or south and judging by what i've read I think I would enjoy south India better in terms of places to go etc. but the weather is obviously a big factor.
My question is, is it a much better idea to go to north India rather than south India in August because of the weather? I have tried reading up on the weather conditions at different times of year but I could do with some personal opinions about whether it is worth it to go to the south or not.
Thanks!

Trekking between villages on KKH
Hello,
I am looking for a short trekking (few days) in the Gilgit area, or some valleys around, or northern on the KKH, to go from one village to another one and so on, to get a felling of the places and people, not just the mountains sceneries...
Any suggestion?
Ciao from Italy,
Marco

Advice Needed on India Coast to Island Trip
Hey Peeps,
I need some tips, points and advice on my upcoming trip to India and Sri Lanka in Dec12/Jan13. I'm a late 20's/early 30's guy those attending a friends wedding from the 17th Jan - 21st Jan 2013. I love travelling independently without guide companies etc, mostly I drive in europe, but I heard India is CRAZY driving-wise. I am upbeat/happy and like to see and do as much as possible in a short space of time. I'm not picky about travel methods (Trains/buses/boats/all good).
Here are my time/date frames:
1) 3 Nights in Delhi (22dec-26dec)
2) 2 Nights in Mumbai (26dec-28dec)
3) 5 Nights in Goa (28dec-2jan)
4) 6 Nights in Kerala, Landing in Kochin (2jan-7jan)
5) 7 Nights in Sri Lanka, Landing in Colombo (7jan-14jan)
I would like to see as much as possible (History/Architecture, Landmarks, Events/Festivals, Beautiful Beaches/Rivers/Lakes, Animals/Wildlife) and al...

Internet Questions
Hello
I will be coming to India in October. I work online. I will be renting short term houses and apartments during my stay. I am not sure if internet is standard in those types of accommodations. If not, is it easy to get those wi-fi stick things?....I am kind of challenged when it comes to technology! Does anyone know the approximate costs? Thanks!

I need my 6 month tourist visa to start from the date of arrival
Hi there,
I am heading to India for the third time. This time however I will be there for the full 6 months of my visa duration. From past experiences I know that the visa issue date is not necessarily the date you arrive in India but a random date chosen on issue of the visa. I have already booked my flights so as to avoid the costs going up nearer the time. I arrive on the 4th October 2012and leave on the 4th April 2013. How can I guarantee that my visa commences on the 4th October so that I have the full 6 months and don't overstay?
Is it possible to choose your visa dates in the UK? If not, can I make changes to them so that they commence from a chosen date?
Many thanks.

Getting Indian Visa in Bangkok
Hi everyone
My boyfriend and I US citizens are looking to get our tourist visa in Bangkok. Has anyone had any recent experience with this? Ifound a post on here but it was from awhile ago. Should I use an agent or is it pretty straightforward to do it myself? If an agent is recommended, any tips on who to go to would be appreciated. I see on the site that the processing time is 3 working days but from what I have read online, it seems like it is closer to six or seven? The requirements seemed to be photos and the application printed from online. Will they ask to see anything else? Will I be able to get a six month there or just three? I just need a single entry. Thanks!
Knowledgeable "guide" desired in Leh/Ladakh
I'm in Leh for the next few weeks with trips to other areas of Ladakh. I would really like the resources of someone who speaks good English and knows about the culture, natural history (etc.) of the area. I do NOT need a "guide" in the usual sense of the word. It's easy to explore Leh on my own or to take a bus or jeep to other areas. What I'm seeking is something that goes a bit beyond the books or, put another way, someone who I can walk around with for a day or so who can point out things I would not otherwise know just from the usual books. I'm also very interested in Buddhism and have done a fair amount of reading on it the last few years.
Please, no response from typical tour agencies unless you happen to know the kind of person I'm seeking. Thanks.

Sri Lanka itinerary advice
Hi everyone! Next month I'm going to Sri Lanka for a 15 days trip. I have only a draft intinerary and I don't want to book (almost) anything, having the freedom to move from one place to another whenever I want. I want to do the following itinerary, staying 1-2 nights in each place:
Colombo Airport - Anuradhapura - Trincomalee - Sigiriya/Polonnaruwa - Kandy - Hatton (Adam's Peak) - Nuwara Eliya (Ella) - Tangalla (or Matara) - Galle - Colombo.
Questions:
- It's possibile to improve this draft itinerary, considering to move from one place to another mainly by train or bus (public transport)? Better to do it clockwise or counterclockwise?
- Which is the best way to go from Colombo Airport to Anuradhapura? Any direct bus from Negombo?
- Due to monsoon weather is better to skip the southern coast (except Galle, which I want to visit anyway)? which place in the southern coast is ...

Nepal Trip November-December 2012
Hello Everyone.
I'm currently on the way to finishing school in Early Novemember this year.
My travel idea is to go to Nepal for a month with a very close friend who is actually Nepalese who will guide me for the holiday. He hasnt been there for a while now because he moved to Aust from a Refugee camp.
We are looking at going in Early to mid november this year and returning early to mid December (preferably before the 8th because that is my sisters birthday).
Now, as this will be my first trip ever overseas, I have some questions for any exeperienced travellers in Nepal.
1. How much money should I take for 28 days? I heard rumours it should be between $10 to $50 AUD a day that is $1400 max for 28 days??
2. What is the weather like in November in Nepal? We arent really bothered by the cold and as as for myself i actually like it.
3. How much are scenic flights? Sh...

India Itinerary for Visa Application
So,of course, I will have my plane tickets INTO India with my visa application and itinerary. I don't want to need to have plane tickets OUT of India as we are not sure if we want to fly to Kathmandu or take the overland route. Do you think this will be a problem?
In my itinerary I've basically said "9/24 - Arrive in Kolkata. 9/26 Kolkata to Varanasi on overnight train. 9/30 Varanasi to Agra on overnight train." Is this as detailed as I need to get or do they want more details - accomodation, specific trains (I can't imagine they do)?
Can anyone think of anything that was helpful in getting a visa recently? We are hoping for a multiple entry as we have to re-enter India before the two months limit because we fly from Mumbai to Washington DC and have tickets already booked to prove need for re-entry. I have been told by the Indian embassy here in Beijing and after reading a few r...

7 to 10 days in Sri Lanka
Hi Guya,
My wife and me are planning to visit Sri Lanka for 7 to 10 days next mid-February. We like to visit landscapes, historical and religious sites. I am looking for recommendations to arrange the traveling logistic from Colombo back and forth. Our main objectives are sight seeing, taking nice pictures, eat and enjoy local people.
Advise and recommendations will be welcome. Of course a reliable travel agency or tourist guide is also welcome.

Sri Lanka Itinerary Help!
Hi guys,
I am visiting Sri Lanka for 5 days, I am not coming for beaches (although don't intend to ignore them). I was just wondering how one would structure their trip. I am interested in visiting ancient sites, as well as seeing beautiful landscapes.
I was thinking 2 days Kandy/3 days Colombo and organising day-trips from there.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!
