Indian/Nepali Visa

Hi, im backpacking through India in Nov this year and are planning on visiting Nepal for a few days, however, due to unscheduled timetable i dont really know exact dates ill be there, therefore, was not planning book accommodation in KMD or back in India until I get there. Searching the forums suggests this will be a problem to obtain Nepali visa as they require itinary in Nepal and also back in India. Anyone have any suggestions? This whole Indian/Nepali visa is making me become a very weary traveller and I havnt even left Australia yet!!!!

Trekking agencies in Thamel

I am in Nepal and have time from October 15th to October 25th to do a trek but I have a flight to catch on the 26th so I don't want to cut it too close. If necessary I can leave a couple days earlier for the trek. I want to go in the Annapurna region and would ideally do something 7-10 days. Does anyone recommend a specific trekking agency to go through in Thamel?

Bodhgaya Guesthouse

Looking for recommendations for a clean, quiet room (with hot water) for October.
I've found some list on the pages below which are quite good and may help others as well, but I'm interested to hear personal recommendations.
Looking to spend in the $10-$15 range.
Thanks very much.

Is it obligatory to have a guide for EBC trekking?

I'm going with my boyfriend to Nepal in early january 2013 and we're planning to trek EBC.

Do we have to have a guide, is it obligatory, or we can do the trek ourselves with maps and so?

Thanks everyone!

Gorkhas teaching...

I have a question that might seem a little strange.

I’m on my way to visit Darjeeling and Sikkim soon I understand that in these areas there are many Gorkha communities. I’m a martial artist with 30 years experience and very respectful of all styles of martial arts. I ran my own school in Canada for 16 years before I opened up a health clinic and now teach from there with other healing arts. Does anyone know if within the Gorkha communities, if they do any kind of teaching? I would love to spend some time learning as I do from various teachers in the many places I visit. Thank you in advance for your help.

2 October - 9 October - Car Share

Hi all,

I will be in Sri Lanka for just over a week and I am looking to do a see it all car trip 2 October - 9 October. I would be happy to do a self drive or hire a driver but generally look to share the cost/experience.

I am a well travelled 24 year old professional from Sydney, Australia. I am looking at the following itinerary (pretty busy I know), more or less:

2nd - Arrive late
3rd - Damballa - Sigiriya - Habanara
4th - Minneriya (Safari) - Polonnaruwa
5th - Kandy
6th - Ella
7th- Yalla (probably not enough time)
8th - Unawatuna/Galle
9th - Colombo

Let me know if you would be interested.

Regards,

Dan

Teenager Traveling Alone

Hello, I'm kinda new here. I just wanted to get you guys' opinions on my 14 (soon to be 15) year old daughter traveling to Kathmandu, Nepal during the summer in 2013. She wants to go ALONE (although she really wants to go with a friend her age) and stay for 3 or 4 weeks. She traveled to Washington, DC (for a leadership conference) without the family when she was 11 and stayed there for a week.

All her friends are going to Europe with tour programs over the summer and she wants to be different. She plans on traveling with RCDP (a volunteer abroad program; link provided) and working with an orphanage. This program usually restricts their volunteers to an age limit of 18, but I emailed the program and they said they could make an exception with her, and have her be looked after by one of their employees. Of course, she still wants to have the freedom of se... more »
