JUST RETURNED HOME AFTER A WONDERFUL HOLIDAY IN SRI LANKA - I THANK YOU
Hey everyone! I'm headed to Nepal. I was an intermediate whitewater kayaker, but I'm now out of practice. And I'm a medical student without a lot of money.
Where can I find a cheap kayak rental and transportation to the river?
And where is a great place to kayak?
Being out of practice, I'd love to have fun on some good rapids without having to deal with huge waterfalls. I'm going in early March, so the water should be big.
What's Negombo like? Is it a backpackery type place like Dahab, Koh Phangan, and similar, or is a package type resort place? or a combination of both, or something else?
I cannot decide which of these treks to choose from, i like the harder the better, with a bit of culture thrown in here and now, and to get to some of the more baron cold areas ????
Can anyone tell me if it is possible to trek in Upper Mustang without a guide and without porter, paying only the special permit...?

Here is the story:
I arrive in Kathmandu on either 3/1 or 3/2.
I am on my own until the 15th or 16th, when I'm hooking up with a friend for the Sanctuary trek.
Question 1: What to trek prior to Sanctuary. I am thinking either part 1 of the Circuit to Muktinath or Jomsom and then bus down to connect with friend in Ghorepani.
OR doing a Langtang trek and meeting her in Pokhara. I'm torn on this.... Recommendations? (First time in Nepal.) Would it be more interesting to explore two sections of the country or are the Circuit and Sanctuary different enough?
Question 2: In either of these treks, I am alone.
I am okay to carry my own load, but I keep hearing it would be a bad idea to go completely along through Thorung La. Also I read it is now technically "illegal" to trek alone? Is that true?
I am on the fence about hiring a guide/porter. For one, I keep ... more »

I am looking for an information on self drive car rentals in Kerala for a period of about 3 weeks. Has anyone done it and can recomend a reliable agency???
I would love to re walk a trek i did 25 years ago :) i wanted to either walk to Muktinath or back from there, following the route via Marpha, Tatopani and Gorepani, i have read that some is on the road but there are new tracks , so you can avoid most of the road. Has anyone done this route recently? i want to go alone ,no guide etc, so i wanted to know how easy the path is to follow, and how busy it is, i am thinking mid April. Also any ideas on if it is cheaper to book flights back from Jomson there, or in Pokarra or Kathmandu.
and one final one, is anyone allowed to bath at Muktinath temple?
I'm looking for a nice place to stay with my boyfriend and his daughter (13) for a week in mid July. We prefere two seperate rooms or a bungelow with two bedrooms. Does anyone have ideas? We want to pay maximum 50 euro's a night.
Just wondering whether it is ok to book on the day for the train from VDG to hospet/hampi as opposed to booking in advance. Id like AC2 cabin.
Same question again re Hospet to madgaon coming back 2 days later...
I see lots of online booking sites for indian trains however, i usually prefer to do things on the day so you can ensure you are making a bona fide booking!
I'm new to this forum get up so bare with me... :)
Next year I intend to take a gap year across asia. I want to start in Lahore Pakistan, and then travel East across the border to Amritsar India. Is there any buses that run from lahore to india? If so how much, how long do they take, and where can I find these?
Any advice would be greatly welcomed. Please help my dream become a reality :D
Can anyone give any advice on the elephant festival, Arattupuzha Pooram, that takes place in March in the Thrissur District?
I would like to go to it as a stop off on my way from Mumbai to Kerela and am looking for any tips on places to stay, what to expect etc.
Any help would be much appreciated!
