Mumbai- churches
Once again, thanks for all your help on my previous thread.
I have found these churches and am interested in visiting all of them. However, my dad wants to shortlist a bit, and maybe keep it to 3.
I would appreciate if any one can help deciding which are the most picturesque churches to visit- they should be good for photography (yeah I know- which churches aren't). Just going for tourist purposes- not for religious ones. Location is unimportant.
Hers's the list:
- St Thomas Cathedral (Fort)
- Afghan Church (Colaba)
- St Andrew's Church (Bandra)
- St Peter's Church (Bandra)
- St Mary's Basilica (Bandra)
- Don Bosco Church (Matunga)
Any help appreciated! Cheers

Driver Colombo - Sigiriya - New Years Day
We are hoping to travel from Colombo to Sigiriya on New Years Day with a car/driver. We are a family of four so will need a larger car. I have been quoted 100 EURO. My feeling is this is too much as I have seen a number of posts saying their drivers were $50 US per day. Does it make a difference if you hire a driver for only one day opposed to a longer time period?
Any suggestions on the best route? We will be heading South to Kandy after Sigiriya so we don't wish to travel via Kandy and its surrounds.
Thanks in advance

VOA and Hotel
Hi Mahmud and everyone!
I wrote you an E-Mail last week but never got an answer, that's why I try it here now!
I'm arriving in Bangladesh Dec. 26th and will stay there with my boyfriend for 3 weeks.
I read a lot about the VOA and I understand that it's not supposed to be a problem to get it at Dhaka airport. Still I asked at the embassy in Berlin as well as in Geneve and we were told there, that there's not such a thing as a VOA. Why would the embassy deny it, if it exists? No official site tells about this option..
I rather get the VOA, because it is soooo much easier, but I'm just afraid there will be problems at the airport.. (I'm from Austria and my bf is from the Principality of Liechtenstein)
The other question is: I tried to make a reservation at Hotel Farmgate (you recommended it a couple of times, and I found a website with an email as well)
Unfortunately I didnt ge...

Trekking in spring and which trekk after Manaslu/Tsum
Hi,
I`m really think about return to Nepal next year. How would be the period between the end of March and the end of May in comperance to October ? I liked the landscape, the culture and the mountains on the Manaslu/Tsum Valley trekk. And loved it because espacially Tsum was really remoted. The trekk wasn`t really hard for me. I expected it more exhausting. I`ve done a lot of sports before ;-)
Can you give me a recommendation ?
Thanks
Nina

A week in Kerala - arranging tours at short notice
I'll be in Kerala alone, from 25 Dec to 31 January.
I'm interesting in seeing Munnar, Wayanad and wildlife reserves. Is it easy to arrange tours once I get to Cochin? Or if it's cost efficient, can I hire a car and driver for around 5 days?
Thanks in advance,
George

Kathmandu to Varanasi ride share??
Hi everyone! This is my first LP post, and I'm not sure if this is proper etiquette...apologies in advance if it's not.
My friend and I are traveling from Kathmandu to Varansi (via Sonauli) on December 5. We'd like to take a jeep or bus from Sonauli to Gorakphur and then hire a private car to Varanasi to avoid that bus/train ride...I've heard/read that it's full of scams and that it takes a long time with all the stops.
Gorakhpur to Varanasi by car should be 3-4 hours vs the 7-10 hours by public transport, and might not be too expensive if we split it. Is anyone traveling during this time?
Thanks!

Best way to travel through Rajasthan?
Hello fellow travelers,
my name is Thomas, I'm about to turn 29 in a few weeks, and this is my first post in this forum.
Few weeks ago I booked flights to Delhi. My plan is to travel through Rajasthan during the period from Feb 1st - Mar 1st 2013.
I'm bluntly following the travel advice in the lonely planet guide, i.e. Dehli, Agra, Udaipur, Jodhpur, Bikaner, Pushkar, Jaipur.
Since my travel date get closer and closer, I am uncertain on my travel arrangements, and was looking for some advice.
Basically I haven't booked any hotels, trains, drivers, etc. and was really wondering what's the best way to travel from destination to destination is. Would it be easy to get a train? Would I need to hire a driver, especially the more West I get? What about Hotels? Is it possible to just arrive at a place and book, or will you have to make reservations far in advance.
Budget wis...

Sundarbans
We (two of us) will be in Bangladesh for another month and we're keen to do a 3 day tour of the Sundarbans during that time. The only option that Guide Tours has given us is a 4 day tip in mid-December with a cost of 21,700 Tk plus a daily national park fee of 1700 Tk. This makes the total for the trip 28,500Tk....which seems quite expensive, particularly by Bangladeshi standards.
Can anyone let me know if this price is typical or whether there are better options available. I realize that Guide Tours has a very good reputation and can possibly charge a premium for this service.
Any experiences from people who have taken (or who are booked to take) a Sundarbans Tour would be much appreciated.
Kind Regards,
Dan

trekking ladakh: tarmac @ Karnak valley (?)
Dear all,
This summer, I finished the Zanskar trek, walking from Darcha to Lamayuru. I will post a report later. Impressions can already be found here:
Zanskar - non panorama
Zanskar - panorama
I do however take this opportunity to warn about the road construction:
- from Darcha, the road currently goed up to Zanskar Sumdo. Active construction was going on, clearly with the aim to push it over Shingo La
- from Padum, the road currently goes southbound up to halfway between Itchar and Purrn, also here active construction was going on to push u futher south. Comming from Padum, the road crosses the river and is being pushed up on the north side of the river (read: opposite site of the main walking...

looking for an inexpensive sitar
Hello,
I will be in Delhi late December 2012 and would like to purchase a low end sitar. Can anyone suggest to me where I may purchase one? I have heard that sitars made of mango wood are considerably cheaper than ones made of teak. I am an amateur musician at best and know realistically, I will probably never learn how to play it. I have always been fascinated with the instrument and would love one to serve as a keep sake of my trip to India. Do you think it possible for me to obtain one for less than 4000 Rs. ?
Any suggestions are much appreciated. Thank you. :-)
