Sri Lanka - travel itinerary
Hi - looking for some feedback on the following itinerary, starting late December, going through early January 2014. Sri Lanka seems a difficult place to judge in terms of travel times, and the estimates I've found on google vary quite a bit, so if my estimates are off, I'd really appreciate feedback on that. All estimates are for private car. Kind of looking to dip our toes in a bit of everything -- ancient cities, history and culture, hill country, wildlife and a few days at the beach.
Day 1 - Stay in Colombo.
Day 2 - Colombo to Dambulla (*about 4 hours by taxi*?).
Day 3 - Visit Polonnaruwa and Sirigiya. Stay second night in Dambulla.
Day 4 - Dambulla to Kandy (*2 hours?*).
Day 5 - Kandy.
Day 6 - Kandy.
Day 6 - Train from Kandy to Ella.
Day 7 - Ella.
Day 8 - Ella to Tangalle (*about 3 hours by taxi?*).
Day 9 - Tangalle.
Day 10 - Day trip to Uda Walawe (*2 hou...

Travel Itinerary advice needed - India 2 months starting October
Hello,
I was hoping someone could give me some advice. My girlfriend and I are looking to travel to India in October and will have about 2 months to play with. It seems such a large country with so many places to see that's its been a bit of a nightmare to sort out a basic itinerary as a starting point. Does anyone have any recommendations on a route and list of absolute must see places/experiences?
Both of us want to soak up as much culture as possible in that time but don't want to feel that we are simply rushing around and just skipping from place to place to tick off items on list.
Also if we wanted to visit Nepal would it be possible to do so in this 2 months or would you recommend Nepal as a trip in its own right and if so how long? India is going to be one place we plan to visit as part of a round the world trip so we can increase the time allotted if required. Any adv...

Shadipur Depot
I have heard that Shadipur Depot in Delhi is the place where many of the circus performers, actors and musicians live, and do street performances. Is it common to find musicians jamming on the streets? Would it be difficult for connect with a few musicians and ask them to do an impromptu performance for a photoshoot?

This question probably has been asked before and it depends on the lifestyle you want I guess but how much will I need for backpacking through India for two months ? I'm happy eating local food and staying in cheap hostels and accommodation but want to visit as many touristy places as possible and see as much of india as possible while I'm there! Im thinking of purchasing an india rail pass for two months which is about £300, If anyone can help me out I will be very greatfull!

Is India spiritual and religion-oriented ?
“ In some ways people had got used to the idea that India was spiritual and religion-oriented. That gave a leg up to the religious interpretation of India, despite the fact that Sanskrit had a larger atheistic literature than what exists in any other classical language. Madhava Acharya, the remarkable 14th century philosopher, wrote this rather great book called Sarvadarshansamgraha, which discussed all the religious schools of thought within the Hindu structure. The first chapter is "Atheism" – a very strong presentation of the argument in favor of atheism and materialism. Amartya Sen

Beware of ATM'S!
Hello everyone,
I know that most people are probably cautious anyway but I just wanted to warn you just in case. Recently during our trip to Nepal we think someone got access to my boyfriends account details and pin while he was using the ATM. We noticed money missing and after looking online realized that $1000 was taken out randomly from a bank in Vietnam. Since we haven't been to Vietnam on this trip we are presuming that it was taken out online somehow.
Anyway, I just wanted to warn you all to be extra careful when using an ATM.
Oh, and we think that it happened in Pokhara as that was the last place that he used the card before it happened, but who knows!
Thanks and happy travels!

How do I extend my visit visa in Sri Lanka
Hello,
I am traveling to SL for a total of 44 days this July and August. I have looked at the visa application process and I think I can enter with the 30 day visit visa, and will have to then extend it. I've also seen that I can download and print the form for extending the visa on-line.
Does anyone know where I need to go to process the extension? Are there agencies that will help with this (for a fee of course!) and any idea if extending is expensive?
Many thanks in advance,
Karen
