Asia - Indian Subcontinent

I'm contemplating a trip to India sometime between the middle of September and the middle of October. Unfortunately I would not have more than 1 1/2 to 2 weeks (if even that). I was wondering if anyone had advice about whether that would be feasible, the best places to see in that amount of time, and what an estimated total cost for that type of trip would be. I've traveled quite a bit in Latin America and Europe, and some in Asia, but really have no concept of what a trip to India would look like.

Is Colaba the place to stay?
Can Australians get a visa on arrival at any airports in India,I am getting conflicting reports,
I would like to purchase a ticket to travel to Cochin within the next 10 days.
my wife and i are traveling to nepal in april for the whole month... what type of weather should we expect? and how much warm gear should we bring? we are pretty seasoned travelers so,,,we are ready for anything and can take it, we are basically winging it,,, so my question is , what should we do, where should we go and what should we avoid??? also we are NOT into more then a one night 2 day trek ,, also how are the rivers should we bother to go rafting or is it too touristy,,,as we try not to be tourists,,,just on tour,,, any help would be appreciated
Going in mid-March to Corbett, planning to visit Dhikala and after that to catch some mahseer. A couple of questions for people who've recently been there:
Should I book Dhikala Forest Lodge in advance or only when I arrive in the neighbourhood ? How are the day safaris from outside the park compared to "Dhikala experience" ?
Where are the best areas to fish for mahseer ? Do I need to go with a guide ? Recommendations ? I don't want a several days fishing tour by travel agency, I have my own fishing gear with me.
Thanks for replies !
We have four weeks holiday starting 16th Feb and wonder if we should go farther than just Kerala, any ideas. Going to backwaters, tea stations and Periyar, Varkla and way down south, also bird sanctuary. Thanks for help. Sandra

I'm now trying to get sorted some of my trains for India and booking online.
I'm going Delhi-Agra next week and on cleartrip.com the one i want is a WL61... so I'm getting tempted by taking the Second Sitting class instead of booking a stressful WL ticket.
Is this a good choice considering I'm a female solo traveler? I really would like to experience this since it's a short ride, about 4 hours for what i read, and I'd do it in the morning. If it's good then, i just show up at the station, queue to get a ticket a jump on the train? are there online schedules for this train category?
Also, on cleartrip.com there are other options for Sleeper Class that says: H Nizamuddin - Agra Cantt
Is this H Nizamuddin station somewhere near the center of Delhi? is it same convenient as the normal New Delhi station?
Thanks in advance for your inputs.

We are going to south India for 2 weeks in March 2012.
Could anyone advice us on the "potential highlights" we should visit on this trip?
That would be greatly appreciated. As we don't have any route or plan yet, anything is possible.
We arrive in Mumbai (march 18) and we depart in Chennai two weeks later (1 april).
We're thinking of going to Goa and to the Backwaters in Kerala for sure, but which other sights can or should we include?
We are willing to travel by (night)train and by plane, so covering much distance is not a problem. As the budget is quite fine, taking some domesctic flights isn't a problem either.
I just don't know what to choose: Hampi, Mysore, Cochin, Kovalam, Pondicherry, Kanyakumari, Bangalore, Pondicherry, Badami.....
and which route we should follow...
If we decide to take the train, which route is the most scenic or fun? Mumbai - Goa ... more »
Has anyone had experience with Bohemian Tours? I have not been able to find any reviews except for their website. They have a deal with Groupon today for a 12 day trip for $1200.00, airfare not included Thanks in advance for any replies!
Help! My husband and I are leaving for Sri Lanka in 2 weeks and have received contradictory information regarding the visa situation. Are there still visas on demand at the airport when arriving in Colombo? I have read that the ETA situation was so badly managed, that they have extended until March 31, 2012 the visa on demand at the airport. Does anyone know if this is true? Thanks so much!!
I arrived in Bangladesh on January 15th. As an American citizen, I only had to pay $53 (much cheaper than the previous $151). They informed me that it had only changed 4 days previous to my arrival.
my friend and I want to visit Jaffna. We will stay in Negombo and would like to travel by train or by bus. I know about trains or buses from Colombo to Vavuniya and then by bus to Jaffna. But do we really need to go to Colombo or can we catch the train or bus on the way to Vavuniya?
I am planning to travel to Sri Lanka in December this year and would like some advice on the itinerary I put together. I will travel by private car with guide and driver. Is this comprehensive? Am I missing anything important?
Let me know. Appreciate your advice!
My understanding is that Adam's Peak you only trek at night after full moon on December 27th otherwise you must do it during day but it is hot. Am I correct?

I have about 13 days before i fly out to Nepal and then another 2 days before i hopefully begin my 3 passes trek. Now begining to worry(well..more than before) after straining the tendons in my knees about 2 months ago down the gym, although they have improved alot..im starting to think i might be biteing off more than i can chew!!
The 3 passes must be a gruelling walk and the thought of steep ascents and the added pressure on my knees fills me with despair!
A Porter/Guide is not an option as i already have an experienced 3 passes guide inwaiting but no Porter as i was going to carry my own pack long before i had this niggling problem. And then there is the added costs of a Porter's pay on top of that already for my Guide.
I have done a couple of 5/6 mile walks recently with no real problems, but with what lies ahead..the comparison is pretty pathetic i feel.
Any fe... more »
