Just wanted to hopefully save one or more people from experiencing what I do heat just last week..
I came back to the hotel to find a hotel staff in my room satin he was returning laundry so I thought nothing of it except confused as to why they needed to enter the room when I wasn't there..
I had checked and counted m money just that morning as I was in the last 10 days of my trip so I was budgeting- I knew the mint was there, 2 hours later the man had obviously stolen it. Along with jewellery (thankfully all metal not silver)
I hope to raise awareness Of this situation at the golden lodge as I have since read reviews and I am definitely by the only one.. Hopefully the through contacting he lonely planet something can be done to help travellers in my situation! It's such a shame what an impact people like those from the golden lodge have had on the rest of my trip...... more »
I would really like to attend the World Spirit Sufi Festival being held in Nagaur and Jodhpur. The buzz seems to be that tickets cost several thousand dollars... can anyone confirm this? Is there any way I can attend for a cheaper price or is this just an exclusive luxury event? Anyone involved in the festival who can help me out with this?
Hi fellow India addicts,
I posted a few weeks ago about travelling to Ladakh, and have decided to do it. However, as I am only going to be there for 5 days I figured it may be better for me to get a tour/travel agency to arrange my itinerary - from what I understand it's not really feasible to do any treks in this timeframe at this time of the year.
If anybody has the patience to help, I'd really appreciate it - my main question is whether it would be cheaper to arrange a good itinerary with a reputable travel agency in Leh (or to arrange transport day-by-day on my own) when I get there or whether I would be better off going with the itinerary below:
1) Acclimazation in Leh
2) Shanti Stupa, Shankar, Hall of Fame, Leh Palace
3) Thiksey and Stok Palace
4) Pangong Lake
5) Khardung-La Top

I'm going to be traveling from Delhi to Kerala for 10 days starting Feb 17th. I've been around India some but not the south, and am curious about places to go... Can someone with recent experience share an itinerary that would make sense for this amount of time?
I don't want to rush through a dozen places just to get the photos, I'm more interested in a couple/few spots that I can see meaningfully (if still too short).
Also, if you are around, let me know. I'd be more than happy to meet up.
And finally, if you have any leads on good places to stay / houseboats - please do share.
is it possible to see the sun rise from Sigiriya rock fortress?
if it is so at what time is the best to start?
Thanks in advance
Hey all. We are heading to Jaipur for the Elephant and Holi Festival in March. As it will be pretty busy will book my hotel in advance. Can anyone help with suggestions on what is the best area to stay in Jaipur?
Just dont want to be too far from the action...
My wife and I plan, in March 2012, to do Langtang Trek and the all circuit Tamang Heritage Trail.
Do we need permit…?
We'd like to share a taxi to cut costs, as it seems pretty complicated to go by bus. Thanks!
My wife and I decided to do part of Langtang Trek and the all circuit Tamang Heritage Trail. Our plan is to start from Melamchi and end in Dhunche. Our worry is the highest section (2600 m – 4400 m) between Melamchi Gaon and Laurebina Yak.
We are over 70 years but in highly physical fitness, yet we think to hike to such a high is too challenging.
Is it possible to find a 4x4 vehicle in the villages Melamchi-Gaon or Tharepati and drive part of the way till it start to descent (Laurebina Yak).
Asalam aleikum Thornies - I know there's a lot of chat on the forum about the Kalash and their particular festivals, but I'm looking for particular dates for this year and am having trouble confirming them. Can anyone please tell me when the major Kalash festivals will take place this year? I'm looking for Joshi/Chillumjusht dates for May, Uchal in August, Phool in September and Chomos in December. I know these are based around harvest dates etc but if anyone has even rough dates that would be extremely helpful. Thanks all, as usual very much appreciated. Bests, Beck
p.s - Any suggestions on Kalash-owned and run guesthouses, or guides working in the area would be great - I've always worked with excellent guides here in the past, and stayed in a great place in Rumbur - looking for the same in Bumborate and possibly Birir. Please PM or post. I'm looking for someone with English, Urdu... more »
Hi. I am a 23 year old single female traveler from British Virgin Islands, but of Indian Origin. I want to travel to Valley of Flowers National Park in West Himalayas at Uttarakhand. Can anybody give me information on the following -
1. Travelling from New Delhi, the best route to reach there.
2. Where can I stay there. I have been told that night stay is not feasible there. Where can I camp/stay in hotel.
3. What can be the costs incurred for a mild budget traveler for a 10 day vacation/camping there.
4. If I am travelling in June, will there be enough cold.
5. Any useful tip.
Looking forward to hearing from you soon.

I am a 25 yr old female hoping to visit Nepal for the first 3.5 weeks of May.
I have been finding some mixed reviews about what the weather will be like at this time and if it would be suitable for doing a trek. I wonder if someone could clear this up for me?
Im travelling by myself and ideally would love to do some trekking. I was thinking of the Annapurna circuit. is it pretty easy to organize all the necessary things when I get to Nepal (I would prefer to have a guide)? If anyone has any particular advice about being a solo female traveller hoping to do this I would love to hear it.
What would be a good destination for a 3 day trip from Delhi (not including travel time) for three guys who want good scenery, hiking and wildlife. We were thinking of Corbett National Park and somewhere else close by?
