We're a British couple almost halfway through a 5 month stay in India. We're in Kolkata at the moment and were considering spending a short amount of time WWOOFING during January, maybe in Orrissa or further south. The WWOOFING India site is poor on info or testimonies so thought I'd give this forum a try...
Anyone had any experience WWOOFING in India? Any feed back on the organisation or the farms would be great, just so we have a bit more of an idea whht we'd be signing up for!

Has anyone stayed at Patnam Beach recently? what was a good place?
Has anyone also taken the train to Trivandrum from Patnam Beach - did you go overnight - how was it?
This is amusing, but only for Ahmedabad, it seems.
Immigration officers get new uniform, learn to say hello.
Another visa thing is being talked about. Doesn't apply to most, but.. Medical visas are being relaxed in some important areas. If this affects you, pay attention to the news on this.
Hi I'm flying into New Delhi on Jan 9th for 3 weeks, return flight from Mumbai. I was thinking of spending up to 2 weeks travelling around Rajasthan with a visit to Ranthambore National Park if possible. Then spending some time in Goa and a few days in Mumbai.
I've never been to India so not sure if i should book some kind of organised tour or just wing it and book my transport, accommodation etc as I go. How easy is it to book train tickets or internal flights and would I need to book well in advance? Are the Indian Travel Agencies reliable? I have a Lonely Planet Guide but the information is a bit overwhelming.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I'm 45, male, fit. I have travelled backpacking through South America but expect this to be very different. Thanks for any help.
Hi, for my stay in and around Hyderabad i need a SIM card with internet to be used on an unlocked Android phone. I will mostly be in Hyderabad, probably also upcountry in Andhra and maybe surrounding states. General requirements:
- mainly for calls and texts to people in Hyderabad, probably also at other locations around Andhra and maybe in surrounding states; also for internet (data)
- only few or no international calls and texts
- I prefer fast internet and can pay more for it; but slow internet is ok too – but it should be there as reliably as possible
- i don't need the cheapest provider; more important is reliable and good service; an unreliable half-working SIM card is the worst horror (i noticed the current thread where the bicyclist is happy with Airtel)
- easy top-up procedures, best would be without having to scratch and type
- easy to buy for a tourist in HYD (can p...
We are a couple from Belgium and Italy traveling to Myanmar from Istanbul.
Today we tried to get our indian visas in Tehran and we got bad news... strangely enough, it now takes about a month as the embassy has to send your requests back to your home country, and you are not even sure that you will eventually get it (because some countries never answer) !! Obviously, they won't tell us which countries do answer...
We cannot wait an entire month here without being sure of the result..!
Could anyone help us to solve this problem ?
Do you know if we could get the visas in Bandar Abbas? Is going to a neighbouring country an option ? Did anyone try the indian consulate in Dubai recently ?
All advices are welcome as we do not know where to go...
Thanks a lot !

Hi there, we're trying to figure out how to get from Khajuraho to Agra... we'd like to leave Khajurao 2.january in the afternoon or at evening, however the gov. train site doesn't show pm/evening trains. Right now it seems that the only way with trains would be from Jhansi to Agra. My dilemma is arriving to Jhansi in the middle of the night and waiting there for the train. It sounds like a bad plan to me, but would like to hear from your experience. How realistic would it be that we met some other travelers in Khajurao and arranged a car transfer to Agra sharing the cost? How much apx would that cost per car? What would be the drive time, faster then the train?
Any help with this much appreciated!
I heard a while back that there was the possibility of significant delays in registering/activating new Airtel (or any other Indian carrier) SIMS and wondered if this was still the case? If so, I might look into getting a travel SIM before I go next week
in about 10 days I plan/hope to visit some parks in central India to photograph wildlife (tigers).
Any keen naturalist around, to join me?
The idea is to avoid a jeep full of screaming Indians, which would happen if I turn up alone, not able to pay for a jeep by my self (plus those ridiculous tourist entry fees).
This is not my first time, but it's my first time alone.
I am in Delhi now, heading shortly to Bhopal, and on.
P.S. This is my Asian Wildlife photo gallery on my website, if you interested:
A few questions about the best way to experience the backwaters with my kids (ages 14 and 16). I was there 20 years ago, took the daytrip from Kollam-Allepey, and wished I could get off the boat to visit the villages alongside. So this time we're spending a night at http://www.philipkuttysfarm.com/index.htm. My questions are the best ways to get to and from there. Road transport is fastest but boat seems more interesting. Then again, maybe it would be more interesting to get there and away efficiently by car, and hire a boat to spend more time exploring the smaller waterways around Kutty's.
Here are my specific questions:
1) We fly into Kochi airport on 12/26 around 4pm. Not sure if we'll spend the night in Kochi (less total travel) or Alleppey (closer to Kutty's where we're heading next day). Suggestions?
2) On 12/27, would the boat ride from Alleppey to the farm be inte... more »
This is my second trip into India and each time I come here I base myself in one place to study / practice Yoga.
At the end of this trip (Late March, early April) I am planning to take 2 weeks, maybe more, and go and see some more of India. Last time I headed south from Mysore into Kerala and spent a few weeks exploring that part of the country.
This time I would like to head north as my flight out of the country is from Delhi.
I'm looking for route suggestions and the best places to be at that time of the year - I would love to see the Taj Mahal and also visit Varanasi and Rishikesh....wondering if I can tie all that into one trip before I fly out of Delhi. Places in between that you folks consider worthy of visiting....please do mention
I'm also considering a trip into Rajasthan, and exploring that part of the country....so there are a couple of options that I... more »
My partner and I are touring around Uttar Pradesh/Rajasthan on our first trip to India for 3 weeks in late Dec - mid Jan. I have planned our itinerary (which is basically a loop around the Golden Triangle, beginning and ending in Delhi) all except the last four days. For these last four days we would probably use Delhi as a base and want to make a short trip for 2-3 days somewhere in Uttar Pradesh.
Does anyone have any suggestions for where we could go to finish the last few days of our trip? We are interested in all cultural or natural sights - all suggestions welcome!
Would I need to pre-book trains/accommodation or do you think I could wing it?
FYI for the rest of the itinerary we are spending 1-2 nights in each of the following places (these are all pre-booked):
