Hi everyone,
I am thinking of going to India at the end of july and spend there 1-1,5 months. I was thinking what could be the best itinerary considering the monsoon . I am interested in places of the beaten track rather than touristic spots, would like to visit one-two big cities though. Most of the time would love to spend in the nature, meeting locals, enjoying food and experiencing, what is characteristic and unique for the country. I know I may sound like a total beginner, but the thought of going there came to me recently and I haven't made my mind yet. That's why I will appreciate any kind of advice.
Hello Everybody
Hi,
I'm coming to Delhi in the middle of the night - at 00:30 (hopefully, since I'm flying with stand by tickets). Are there agencies at the airport arrivals, which are opened 24/7, so that I can get a hotel room for the night? It's inconvenient for me to book the room in advance, as I don't know if I'll manage to get on that flight.
And another question: Is it possible to purchase tickets for Kathmandu (Jet Air, India Airlines,...) right there at the airport, or do I have to go downtown and search for the Airline offices (I know they all have premises in Connaught Place).
Thanks in advance,
regards
Iva

Hi
Does anyone know if the train to Ooty is running at the moment?
If not, any suggestions on how to get there.
Thanks
I got up at 5 30am today, then traipsed into london to the VSF global place to get my new visa. After a 2 hour wait i presented all the documents, photos ETC. They then told me that i cannot apply for a new visa untill my old one expires (It has 6 days left) I told them that i had done it several times before and that they usually cancel the old one. She then informed me that the rules had changed! I said i had read the visa conditions on the website and it does not mention this, "it is not on the website at the moment" she said aghhhh!!!
I was chatting to a women whilst waiting who had been waiting for 3 weeks for her passport to be returned, she is flying on friday. VSFglobal do not have it so they told her it must be at the Indian Embassy. They had told her that she cannot visit the embassy as they do not take personal enquiries, they told her to phone. She told them ...

Hello all! So I am currently in India and I seem to be having a few "womanly problems." I was wondering if anyone has experienced an Indian PAP smear or have any recommendations as to what I should do. Thanks so much!!
Happy and safe travels!

I have been following closely the development of political situation in Darjeeling/ Sikkim (reading Darjeeling news website). Noted the situation is worsening in Darjeeling now, with on-and-off blockage of NH31A (the only access to Sikkim).
Can anyone there please please tell us whether still suitable to travel to Darjeeling now?
Else if upon arrival in Badgogra airport, we skip Darjeeling and procced straight to Gangtok. Is this workable?
Appreciate and thank you very much for your help.
cheers
Hi. We are planning to walk the Singalila Ridge trek in mid March and cannot find any current threads on what you should expect to pay for guides, porters and accommodation / meals along the way?. We plan to hire sleeping bags in Darjeeling, use our own sleeping bag liners, and stay in village accomm along the track. Any 2010 cost info and recommendations would be welcome. Thanks in advance.

I will be arriving in Kolkata the first week in March and will have roughly a month before returning to Kolkata to then travel the Northeast including, Darjeeling, 7 Sisters,Sikkim and then Nepal....For that month prior, I'm wondering if I should stay North and travel West to see Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh etc.. or head South by plane or train to see any of the states on the Bay of Bengal Coast....I'm having a hard time figuring this out so any and all opinions are welcome...thanks in advance....btw, as far as what I like to do/see, it's all interesting to me culturally and geographically.
Can anyone please tell me how easy/difficult it is to trek independently in the Darjeeling area of India.
I'm thinking specifically of a trek to Kanchanjunga Base Camp area.
Is the area set up for independent trekkers - similar to treks in Nepal - or is a tour group the way to go?
For instance - are there tea houses, or if not, where would independent trekkers sleep and what would they eat? Is the accommodation clean/dry etc?
If someone has been there recently and can help me with information, I'd appreciate it.
Gary
We will be arriving in Dehli in July for around 2 weeks. I will be with my wife and 4 year old daughter. This is our first trip to India and the only "to do" thing we have is Taj Mahal.
Can you tell me how to spend the time?
Looking to spend between $75-100 a night on hotels.
Thanks and I know it will be HOT!!!!!!! ouch

Hi Everyone,
I tried posting this message before, but it didn't seem to show, so please forgive me if I have posted it twice.
I will have a stopover in Delhi, arriving at 3:50p and then leaving the following day at 7:30pm. I have never been to India before, but have always wannted to go.
My question is, do I have enough time to go into Delhi and do anything? Even just have a wander around? Or is the airport too far away? Would I be better off finding somewhere near the airport and hanging out until my plane left?
My other question is can anyone recommend a place to stay? We will have just spent 3 weeks in tibet and nepal and don't mind splurging a it ($100USD) on a nicer hotel.
Thanks in advance for your wisdom :)

Hey all, maybe this questions has an obvious answer but I don't know it.... Why are the tiger parks closed during monsoon season? floods\safety issues? too much vegitation\difficult to spot anything? any other possible reasons?
Thanks
