sending textbooks to Nepal.

hey, I am off to Nepal in July to help out teaching English in a small village, when i visited before the school had no textbooks, so i have managed to collect a whole lot of old textbooks from uk schools, the only problem is that they exceed my weight allowance for flight, so I was wondering what people would suggest I should do- has anyone had experiences of posting bulk to Nepal? cost, transit time? has anyone got any other ideas? I am going in July, so just thinking i might have to start sending if they are to arrive in time..thankyou for your help! B

Durutha Poya (Kelaniya)

Hey guys,

I will be in Sri Lanka from December 30th to January 14th and would love to go to the Durutha Poya at the Kelaniya Temple. But unfortunately I get various dates on the internet when the Poya is taking place. So I am hoping (and I am sure one of you knows ;-) what the right date is?

Thank you very much, keep on travelling
Mel

Hi Guys

I arrive in Dehli on 29th December from the UK. I would like to book in to a ncie hotel to recover from the long flight. Can anyone recommend a nice hotel (not a totally sterile environment) with good facilities in an interesting area of Dehli? I am prepared to spend up to £150.

Thank you

Annapurna Sanctuary trek-just back

Just finished the trek to ABC and it was truly an amazing trip. Walking up towards ABC with wonderful views of Machhapuchhare, through such varied terrain was a great experience but the serenity and magnificent vista at ABC provided a fitting climax. It's definitely worth a day in Pohkara at the end to enjoy the many excellent restaurants , bars and shops although a wildcat strike which cleared the streets of buses and taxis nearly caught me out. The hotel lent me a porter to walk to the airport where fortunately I managed to get my pre-booked flight. I travelled with Nepal Uncovered who were excellent. I signed up for a group but as I finished up being the only one in it I had a guide and porter to myself.

Tour Operator vs Independant

Hi all.
My girlfriend and I have just booked flights to India for next June (not the most ideal time, I know - but its the only month we can go for longer than a week). Flying in to dehli and plan on covering the well trodden path of dehli-agra-rajasthan area. I know it will be hot hot hot but like i say, its the only time that suits. We've travelled quite a bit in latin america, mid east, china and SE asia so not really afraid of going independantly. But from what I've read/heard, travelling around India can be manic. That booking trains, buses, accomodation etc can be a nightmare (true??). Also hassle from touts at train/bus stations. Is June going to be particularly manic?? (with school holidays etc).
Looking at a tour with Intrepid that covers the above mentioned areas for about €800 over 15 days. I have 3 weeks in total so would have another week doing our own thing. Would doi... more »

How many hours from Dhaka to Kolkata,& where to buy ticket?

In a previous post, people recommended I go by bus rather than train because it’s faster, but how much faster? Bus costs $20 (1,400 taka?) but for $20 I’d get a berth on a train to sleep in.

I need to arrive in Kolkata in sunlight so I can walk around searching for accommodation without darkness, preferably early morning. I’m leaving from Gulshan 2.

I'll take bus if everyone recommends it over train.

ATMs in Sri Lanka

Hello everyone!

I´m starting to plan my trip to Sri Lanka and I´m wondering how easy it is to find ATMs on the country (not only Columbo, but other cities, specially on the South) and if it´s worth using them. In Laos, for example, the maximum disposal is very low, and considering the commision they charge for using my card abroad it´s better to change dollars... What about Sri Lanka?

The problem is not only that: I´ve a Mastercard card but my main card is a chinese Union Pay card, is it posible to use it in ATMs in Sri Lanka? I guess not, but I´ve better ask...

I usually don´t like buying dollars for trips, in general is easier to get money on ATMs, but it´s not always the best choice...

Thanks in advance for your advice :-)

Laura
