Can I get a visa from Kathmandu to India? If so, how long?
If not, what other cities...i.e. Bangkok. And how long?
I'm American, and not home. In China, and unable to get visa here.
Planning to leave to one of those destinations in 3 weeks and onto India.
Thanks.

Hi, has anybody done any treks around Eastern Nepal? My partner and I are going next March to Nepal for 2 months and want to do a trek, we have heard that the East is less populated by tourists, are the treks as good there? Also if there aren't as many tourists, does that mean less tea houses etc? Any info on this would be good.
Also we were wondering about the hiring of porters, is it entirely necessary? Are there any ethical values attached to the hiring/not hiring of a porter? I would feel somewhat rude walking around with just a day pack while a local carries all of my stuff... but then again, I realise that in hiring a porter we would be helping by putting money into the economy. Any views on this?
I'm trying to gather as much info as I can at this point, on all manner of subjects, so anyone with anything to say is welcome to reply. We're open to ideas.
Another thing is bud...

Hi,
A friend is coming to meet me in Sri Lanka, Easter 2010 and we're trying to get them a cheap flight. I've been looking at trabber.co.uk regularly and the cheapest flight it's shown is GBP 505. Just wondering if I should hold out for any cheaper options, maybe after Christmas, or just book it now, as it's about GBP 50 cheaper than it has been for the last couple of months - ?
Thanks :-)

Hello,
I`m currently in South America (eight months in total) and went to Asia a couple of years ago for nine months and will fly to India again in Jan. where i hope to get a visa for Bangladesh. However i now only have four or five pages left in my passport and only one example of two consecutive pages, is this important for a visa (I didn`t know about this rule but somebody in a hostel mentioned it to me) because i would hate to miss out on Bangladesh (how often are you in the Indian subcontient?) because my priority would obviously be to use said example for my Indian visa? Is there a way around it ie buying new pages in your passport? I need the information now which is why i am asking on here as i won`t have time to sort this out when i go home as well as get my Indian visa. Help!
Cheers

I'll be stopping at Chennai airport for awhile in June next year in between flights, and i've never been there before - how does it rank, as far as airports go? Places to sit? Food shops? Any retail space for browsing/impulse buying? Not really a particularly big deal, but I'm just curious. Some airports are almost like cities in their own right, and others... well, are not.

Hello all,
I`m currently in South America and three days after landing in The UK in January i will fly out to India for eleven weeks. I have been before but mostly to the south and central India with the exception of Agra, Delhi and Varanasi so it would be cool if people who have been to the north before could put down their top three things to do or see in there. I am thinking of going to the NE States, Amritsar and Haridwar for the Kumbh Mala so need some inspiration for the rest of the time but i do not currently have access to an Indian guidebook.
So let`s hear it then, people`s top three for the north of India!

Please note an additional $30 fee mandated by the Embassey of India in Bangkok for issuing a visa to American citizens. This fee is not listed on the Embassey Website. It is in addtion to the normal visa fee and the extra charge for issuing a visa to non-Thais.
This fee is not charged to Americans applying for a visa in the US.
When closely questioned Indian Consul offered a far fetched explanation not substantiated by any documentation.
Perhaps an 'Educational' lesson for a planned visit to Incredible India?

So how many backpackers/tourist that are Vegans will protest and boycott travel to Nepal due to the Hindu Festival starting today, in which they slaughter 250,000 buffalo, sheep and chicken with swords?

Heading to India in March for a month. Originally planned on either north or south but....that didn't pan out once we figured out what we wanted to see.
Must see's so far are:
Darjeeling
Varanasi
Mumbai
Banagalore (friends there)
and possibly Udaipur
I know - all over the place. Was thinking of flying into Delhi, heading to Varanasi and heading up to Darjeeling, stopping in Calcutta on the way down to Banalore, seeing Goa and hitting Mumbai on the way out. Trying to figure out where to find the best resources are for planning travel times, so I can figure if it's worth doing a flight or two, or if trains and busses will be good enough.
Any suggestions are welcome.
Thanks.

Hi,
We're traveling from Delhi to Mumbai and have 5 days to spend inbetween
Our rough idea had been to see Agra-Jaipur-Jodhpur-Udaipur-Mumbai but not sure if this is being over ambitious?
Also if we'd be missing out something worthwhile? Jaisalmer?
Any advice or tips would be v appreciated
thanks
Ewan

Hi,
We're going to be passing through Goa in the second week of December.
We're tossing up between Palolem and Agonda and a place to stay. Does anyone have any opinions on which is better?
We;re looking for low key, hut on the beach type of thing. Mid-range price.
Will it be really busy this time in South Goa or is it mainly busy in North Goa and closer to x-mas?
Any suggestions for good places to stay in Agonda would be helpful. Not much listed in the LP South INdia book.
Thanks for any tips.
Renee
