Ok, Thornbirds,
I thought it time to talk Delhi hotels again. The last big discuss was in 2007 and there must have been some changes on the topic since then.
I will be arriving late night, like midnight or so, looking for airport transfer and a comfy hotel with no hassles the first night in town. Looking to spend around 2500 INR or 50 USD for the first night there. Karol Bahg, Paharganj, CP areas are all good options. Anyone have any good recent stays???
Thanks all,

Hi all
Trying to use irctc.co.in for info on trains from Sibolga to Hassan without luck, and indiagroove seems to be a commercial website. Any other sites that can show interchange journeys?
Thanks in advance

I'll be in Tiruvannamalai (Tamil Nadu) soon and have an HSBC ATM card. They don't charge me any fee so long as the ATM machine I use has a MasterCard logo on it. But that doesn't mean the local bank who owns the ATM isn't going to have a charge for my using their ATM.
Anyone know which major banks don't have any fees on their ATM?
Thanks

How about mosquitos? Are they as intense as October?
Will there be any big festivals going on in Bodhgaya in February, 2010?
Thank you,

Hello,
Before I rush out and buy the LP India guide , just wanted to get some feedback on where would be nice to visit in India.
Firstly I only have max about 3 weeks in March. Thinking to keep to a few areas in the south.
I like adventure, culture and beaches.
First timer so it'll all be exciting and different. Traveled most of Asia, leaving best for last!
Any recommendations or at least a location to research and plan for my trip.
Regards,
Candace

Hello everyone
I'm new to Thorn Tree. :)
And I have a question:
Has anyone had any troubles recently with getting a tourist visa to Pakistan? I applied for one last year at the Chicago Consulate and I received it through US express mail within two days without any problems. When I applied again this year, the consulate in Chicago informed me that in addition to my application, photos & passport; they need a letter from my employer as well as my class schedule with a student ID (I said that I was a student in the occupation section of the application). When I called them to confirm this, they added that my Pakistani hosts need to send me a letter of invitation along with copies of their national ID cards. The woman on the phone also said that it's more difficult now for Americans to get visas there than last year. She said there was no guarantee that I could even get one. She...

Hello,
My grilfriend and I are planning to go to Haridwar for the next Kumbh mela.
We are thinking to be ther e, either for the bath of 24th march (5th snaan) or for the one of 30th of march.
As it seems that these baths are not the main ones, anybody could tell us if it will be as incredible, and if the holy saddhus (the nagas) will also take a holy bath for these dates...
and last question : if we stay in rishikesh, will it be easy to go to haridwar with local transports or even rickshaw durind the fair?
thanks for your advises...

Hi,
We will be in Delhi, Agra and Rajasthan (just Jaipur, Jaisalmar and Jodphur) for 10 days in early February. (We know it's a tight time frame!) We are traveling with kids--12,10 and 6. I am very confused about anti-malarials for this time. Fit for travel site from UK says low risk, just use precautions. http://www.fitfortravel.scot.nhs.uk/destinations/asia-(east)/india/india-malaria-map.aspx
US says we should use anti-malarials. http://www.mdtravelhealth.com/destinations/asia/india.php Our travel clinic here is really pushing the anti-malarials.
We have permethrin treated mosquito nets and treated long clothes. We also have a prescription for malarone, but not sure whether to have it filled. It's so expensive, and if the risk is small, we do not want to put the chemicals into the kids, but of course we don't want them to catch malaria either. Has anyone heard of trave...
