Is Nathia Gali an interesting place to visit in January? If so, what is there to see and do?
Has anyone stayed at the Greens Hotel in Nathia Gali?

Hello all,
I am currently at the very beginning stages of planning my first ever trip out to India- 1 month in January. I was debating whether to fly into Mumbai and out of Delhi, or vice-versa.
Right now I am leaning towards Mumbai and surroundings for the first part of trip, and then head up to Delhi and northern India for second half, and fly out of Delhi. Would it be better to fly into Delhi, check out northern India, travel south, then west, and back up to Mumbai? What do you all suggest? I want to see the "soul" of India, but I also recognize that 4 weeks is likely not enough to go galabanting all around the country... Is there lots to see in-between Mumbai and Delhi for as person like me?
budget: low to medium
time: 1 month
interested in culture over nature
TIA.

I´m looking for a single room with a fan in Ernakulam for 200-300 Rs. per night.
There´s gotta´be some passable flophouses for that price.
Any suggestions?

Does anyone know of some good, quiet places to do some freshwater swimming in India?
I don't want to go to any beaches because the only nice looking ones look pretty crowded.
I am looking to do some swimming in a lake or river without a lot of people around. The more quiet the better!!!
Thanks!

Has any US passport holder recently applied for a Bangladesh visa in Calcutta? I'd be grateful if someone could share the fees. Yes, there are fees listed for US passports on the websites of other Bangladesh consulates, but perhaps the fee varies depending on location, so I'm asking for Calcutta specifically.

Hi
Looking for a cheap guesthouse that has a bit of tranquility in Delhi. Would be nice if it was a bit away from the tourist centres.

Anyone recommend a budget place to say in Old Goa, like getting up early and walking the streets, so would like to stay in the old town rather than Panjim.
Also, anyone suggest a homestay, cheap place (300-600Rp) in Benaulim,
All I need is fan room, squat toilet fine, prefer balcony and fridge to TV etc.
Thanks in advance for any replies

Hey there,
does anyone know about eco villages or similar projects in India apart from Auroville where you can live for a while and be a part of the community / help with tasks etc? preferrably living on site and joining the life there? I know there are heaps of projects going on about people living in places with visions about living in accordance to nature and being as less damaging as possible, and i'd love to go but all i can find is auroville - at the moment though i am in the west of india so i am just looking for opportunities. would consider volunteering also though i don't really want to pay loads of money to be part of a project - i don't mind donating but i am just not that rich........
many thanks!

Hi All,
For anyone who is coming to Orissa to visit, here are a few things for you to update in your guidebook.
Bhubaneswar - pg.258
1) Hotel Richi is too close to the station to be quiet and is generally heavily booked out.
2) A very pleasant guest-house is Rohilla's Tourist Guest House in Ashok Nagar (Rs.450 for a reasonable sized room with attached bathroom).
3) Hare Krishna restaurant is open from 11:30am => 3:30pm and 7:30pm => 11:30pm. The prices in the guidebook are wildly inaccurate and the lassis are nothing to write home about (or note in a guidebook for that matter).
Jeypore - pg. 270
1) There are a number of budget hotels including one near the old fish market in MG Road.. Prices are Rs.200 for a basic room.
2) Hotel Sai Krishna is good for a star-rated hotel but don't expect anyone to help with questions other than booking a room face-to-face....
