I'll be travelling from Tallinn to St. Petersburg in a couple of weeks, and will probably go by bus. I've visited luxexpress.eu, which sells bus tickets, and you can choose to travel on different bus types, which are called Lux Express Special (48 euros), Lux Express (35 euros) or Simple Express (3, yes, three, euros). Obviously, there's a great big difference in price here, with the Simple Express' cost of 3 euros being ridiculously inexpensive. Have I completely misunderstood, or is it possible to travel from Tallinn to St. Petersburg for just 3 euros? And if it is indeed possible, does anybody know anything about the comfort level and general acceptableness of the simple express buses? The simple express options are situated under the heading "Lux Express Group buses", but it seems to be possible to just pay for one seat.
Thanks a lot for your help!
I'll be going to Tallin in mid-September for a romantic trip. I'll be taking one carry-on bag. Activities could include anything from hiking to fancy dining and going to nightclubs...so packing could be a bit of a challenge.
I live in a very casual North American city where one stands out if overdressed. I'm a woman in my early 40s and I like to dress comfortably but stylishly. I assume that the women of Tallin are more fashion-forward than I am used to. I'd love outfit ideas for fitting in, looking feminine, and dressing appropriately for the weather.
My wife and I will be in Tallin Aug 19-20 for her birthday and I'd like to take her somewhere nice for a romantic dinner. Also looking for ideas for places to go out for drinks after and wondering if you can rent a horse and carriage in the old town. Any suggestions/input is welcome.
I'll be traveling through Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania throughout September and was looking for a little local advice on the weather.
Obviously I'm aware of the 'average' weather conditions but as it's getting near to winter setting in wondered if I should expect much variation from the beginning of the month to the end, east to west or north to south. Any advice greatly appreciated and it will help me a lot with knowing what clothes to pack!
I'm going to Estonia for about 3-4 days over the weekend 20th to 21st of August.
Does anyone have suggestions as to which place would be the better to experience the celebration of Taasiseseisvumispäev, the day of independence from the Soviet Union on 20th of August 1991: Tallinn or Tartu?
Tallinn is the seat of government, so more official celebrations might take place here, but Tartu is, according to some of my friends, a more ethnically Estonian city, also with a sizeable student population, so the party might be more intense.
I would go for either, long as it's grand.
I would welcome comments on this proposed itinerary. We will be travelling by car. Have I, as usual, tried to put too much in? What should I leave out? We love galleries, old buildings, nice food and drink. Is Ventspils worth the trek? Sugestions about booking ahead to get good value accommodation - v- flexibility? Thanks a mill in advance!
Day1: Tallinn (arr. 7.45)
Day 2: Tartu
Day3:Cesis and Sigulda
Day4: Ventspils and Jurmaala
Day6: - Saaremaa
Day7: Return to Tallinn (to depart Tallinn on ferry about 17.00)
2 friends and I are making a little Baltic tour London - Tallinn - Helsinki - St Petersburg - London departing 3 August. We will travel Saturday afternoon 6 August by boat / hydrofoil Tallinn to Helsinki. I see you can book tickets on internet (Tallink Silja line amongst others). Is it worth booking this in advance on internet or will it be easy enough to book on the day at the ferry terminal ? Thanks for any recommendations / suggestions.
Visited Tallin and Saaremaa.
Would absolutely recommend this country to anyone - although not if yu are on a tight budget as there didn't seem to be many shoestring options.
the city of Tallinn is beautifully restored with ample restaruants with outside seating - and a great idea of providing blankets for if it gets little fresh in the eveining.
Getting around is super easy - airport shuttle bus is €2 euros and covers most areas of the city and gives you an esy to follow timetable to return trips - it is a circulr route so it will pick you up where it dropped you off. when you arrive at the barnd new airport, there is a big map that helps you figure out which stop you need and also an english speaking guide jsut to help you if you are still not sure.
took a 2 day trip to island of Saaremaa - the Tallinn bus station is veyr easy to navigate and they even seel fresh strawber... more »
My husband and I need to get to Tallinn / Saku for the 6th August from Nottingham. I've been looking at various flights but I'm getting confused about who flies from the UK. We could do with the cheapest option from any airport in England and we have 2 weeks off work to complete the trip. I know there are some flights from East Midlands Airport but I can't seem to find any cheap ones.
However, we have another option...
We have a VW camper. I'm sure driving will be the most fun option but we don't want to go overboard with the cost... Has anyone driven to Estonia from the UK before? What route did you take. How many ferries did you use?
I've had a quick look and how found that we can drive to Rostock, Germany and get a ferry to Helsinki and then a ferry to Tallinn. There are a few variations such as driving through Sweden. Some of the information on the websites is outdated s... more »
We will be spending a week in Estonia in August. At the end of that we plan; Monday morning ferry to Helsinki. Monday evening, ferry to Stockholm. Spend Tuesday in Stockholm, flying out Tuesday night. Sound feasible? Also is there much difference between the ferry companies in terms of standard of ship: Thanks.
On June 19th 2011 we booked a two day self guided tour to Laheema national park.
The service provided by City Bike is nice and correct, maps additional park information is supplied.
Looking back the tour is just too expensive €97,53 p/person exluding €23,-- bike rental. The hotel provided has 2011 prices for just €65,-- only. Upon return I supplied this feedback to the city bike staff. They were not able to justify the price and will use this as a feedback.
For sure visit the Laheema park it is beautiful, rent a bike, buy a map, take care of your own transport and you are fully set!!
we booked this hotel nearly 60 days prior to our arrival. we booked this hotel given the location and recommendation per guidebook (within the Old City and close proximity to the cruise ship terminal). subsequently, we attempted to book their airport pickup service (via 4-emails and 2-faxes to hotel) however to no avail (no response from hotel). finally, we requested airport pickup service via booking.com and booking.com confirmed accordingly. upon arrival at airport, no airport pickup service was present and we had to find alternate transportation (airport bus to outside the Old City and then walk uphill ½-mile into the Old City with suitcases to hotel). upon arrival at hotel, we were informed there were no rooms available, being bumped by a tour group and being relocated to a sister hotel on the opposite side of town (outside the Old City and away from the cruise ship terminal; howe... more »
Hi I'm going to Tallinn for 4 days at the end of this month but I don't know what I should see there. What can you recommend? Also is there a big difference between Estonia and Western European countries? Thanks! :D
I'll be visiting Estonia in early July. Any hints on getting to Tallin from Helsinki? Please make a suggestion about a good place to stay that isn't expensive. Any hints on foods/restaurants? I Appreciate any help you can provide. I understand that it is a fine place to visit.
