May trip to Hungary/Romania/Croatia

Starting to plan a 2 week trip for this May to eastern Europe and would like to get some opinions on our proposed itinerary to see if it’s reasonable. The travelers are myself and my girlfriend, we’re early 50’s/late 40’s, good health, active and seasoned travelers.
Fly from USA to Budapest and stay in the city for 2 nights.
Take a train to Brasov Romania rent a car and explore Transylvania for a few days, traveling to Timisoara the last day and dropping the car.
Take a train from Timisoara to Zagreb and spend the balance of our time in Croatia, visiting Split, taking a ferry to one of the islands for a couple days, 2 days in Dubrovnic then fly to Zagreb and home to the US.
We don’t have any particular things we want to see on this trip, just want to get a feel for the countries and possibly come back on another trip to spend more time in one place if we want.

Abkhazia

Hello,
I am looking for information about visiting Abkhazia from Georgia.

1)I understand the crossing is over a bridge near Zugdidi. Will the Georgians let me cross over and come back after a few days?

2) Is it necessary to arrange the Abkhaz visa in advance (via Internet I suppose) or is it possible to get it at the border? From what I´ve read elsewhere the cost is $ 20.

eybus Istanbul to Safranbolu

Hey

just wondering if it's possible to arrive domestically at 10.30 to Aturak airport and be able to get a bus to Safranbolu the same day ?? I am looking at a wednesday in September, just planning accomodation etc and would prefer not to have to overnight in Istanbul.

I see Ulusoy do a bus at 13:00 but I have no idea where their bus station is in relation to the airport and if it's possible to get from A to B in 1.5 hours ??

or............are there any early, like 6 or 7 a.m. buses that head off to Safranbolu ???

.......also any idea what time buses leave Safranbolu to return to Istanbul ??

Safe travelling in Georgia

Hi Guys,

We (1 man, 1 woman) are planning to visit Georgia later this year, and have a question about safety. We'd like to do some hiking in the mountains, including to Svaneti and Kazbegi and would plan to use public transport and camp. Are these areas safe enough? And is Georgia generally quite safe beyond the usual petty crime?

Croatia Virgins

Hello fellow Croatian travelers,

My husband and I will be flying from Colorado to Istanbul in early May. We plan to stay in Istabul for 6 or 7 days before heading off to Croatia. We are still trying to anchor down some plans for the 6-7 day Croatian leg of the trip. After a busy city like Istanbul, I think that we are looking for more italian influenced small town appeal... wine, long dinners, swimming? (if it's not too cold.) However, we have begun to realize that flying into Zagreb and trying to make it down to Dubrovnik all within a week would be less than layed back. So I feel like we need to pick a "region" so that we don't spend our entire time in Croatia on a bus

Here are some options we have considered:

(1) Fly into Zagreb and visit Plitvice on our way to spending time in the northern Croatian area like Rovijn.

I will be in Prague in March and I am looking at possibly going to a Sparta Prague game. Are these games generally safe for foreigners or is it overrun with hooligans and skinheads?

Travelling with a phone connected to Internet

Hi everybody :-)
I'm a young traveller and I would like to travel in Eastern Europe during two months in the next summer using hitchicking and CouchSurfing.
I'm now trying to put together as may information as I can to avoid commun mistakes due to my inexperience.

My question is: Should I travel with a phone connected to Internet?

Why? Because I realised that with a phone connecte to Internet, it is easy to contact some couchsurfer in the city I plan to sleep in, to find schedule of buses/train/whatever and any other information that are hard to get without beeing connected to Internet.
Of course, I can use an internet cafe (a shop in which you pay to get access to Internet), but I don't know if it is easy to find in Eastern Europe...
In an other hand, is there a way to get Internet on a phone whatever the country I'm in?
