Abkhazia
I am planning to go to Abkhazia and found a few hotels. But does anybody know of a good homestay? I would like my stay to be a bit cheaper. LP mentiones one, but I would need email or cellphonenumber, I dont think I will just show up in town and hope for the best..

General questions about eastern Turkey.
Hi All, This will be my first post here, good to get it out of the way i guess! I have sort of a couple of questions about Turkey, and espescially the eastern parts of the country.
This may sound very silly but, how is traveling affected in the area Diyarbakir do to the Syrian conflict? Has the refugee situation affected the region much (in a traveling sense) and in what way.
Also wich stop would you recomend to do on the road from Istanbul to Diyarbakir? Looking to to the trip between the citys in a couple of days or so. After Diyarbakir my kurdish friends has pretty much told med the route to go.
Thanks in advance.

Eastern Turkey single
Hi
I am a male mid 30's, most of the times traveling single (budget backpacker style) and avoiding main tourist centers.
Apart from the sights and natural environment, I also highly rate the chance of any pleasant social interaction while traveling.
My last 2 trips of two weeks each were in Egypt and Morocco and were totally different: I loved Egypt , but not Morocco so much because my personal experience:
Egypt local people - even in tourist scene: open, great sense of humor, fun to spend time with; lacking some in Morocco.
Egypt independent travelers scene - of all ages; Morocco mostly party youth and pensioners;
Egypt social scene - always a bar/restaurant to drink a beer or two, otherwise coffeebar for a smoke - in Morocco you often have to go "underground".
I am just curious if there are more of you with similar experiences and who can compare Eastern Turkey...

Should I get a visa through a visa service or on my own?
I'm an American citizen trying to get a Russian tourist visa and I'm very confused as to the whole process. I'm leaning toward using a visa service but would prefer to do it on my own if possible. My plan is to hitchhike within Russia for a bit, entering via Finland. Naturally I don't know exactly where I'll be or when. How do I come up with an itinerary of hotel reservations or whatever it is I need? Will I need to get a formal invitation? If so how can I get one? Can I stay 30 days or is it 90?
Thanks.

best Italy - Croatia ferry options
Hi there
My boyfriend and I will be taking a holiday in Croatia this August, starting in Dubrovnik. I'll fly to Dubrovnik, but he will be in Italy visiting family first.
Bari is farther south than he will be so he was looking at the Ancona - Split/Hvar Stari Grad ferry. It looks like that doesn't go every day, which is one issue... but if he ends up in Split or Stari Grad, how easy is it to travel from either of those ferry ports to Dubrovnik?
if it's complicated, may it be easier to take a train to Bari and take the direct ferry to Dubrovnik?
He speaks Italian but no Croatian.
thanks for your help!
ciao

Visa on arrival
I am wanting to bus from Tblisi to Yerevan. I've read that visas on arrival are possible at the Armenian border. Does anyone have any recent expeience with this? Is it possible? What's the process like? I'm also hoping to bus from Yerevan to Tehran. Does anyone know if this is realistic, and if so, what the land border I'd cross into Iran at would be? (I'm also going to post this last qu in an Iran thread).
Thanks!

Ani to Nemrut
Hi Turkey Experts,
I was just wondering, what would be the best route to go from Ani to Nemrut? I've been looking at the Lonely Planet Turkey and there seem to be many alternatives. Thanks in advance!

One-way car rental in Turkey. Bodrum - Istanbul
I want to rent a car to drive from Bodrum (or maybe Kusadasi), to Istanbul. I did this about 15 yrs ago, but am trying to replicate that trip and am looking for any advice on who to rent from, and whether I can get a van or not (this trip will be with 6 people - only 2 last time). A lot of the US car companies don't have offices, or apparently can't do one-ways. Any help will be appreciated. Also, would it be cheaper to rent as a walk-in, or make reservations from the US (have the feeling reservations ahead would cost more, but I would at least hopefully have a van waiting for me). Thanks for any help!

*URGENT* post-Rabies vaccine in Russia advice
Hi guys
I'm currently in Irtusk in Russia. Last night I was bitten by a dog (not too badly, but it broke the skin), which was by the river in the centre of town. While I'm pretty sure it was domestic and didn't look rabid, Russia is considered a risk area for rabies according to WHO. Before I left I had to the full vaccination course of 3 rabies jabs. As soon as I got back to my hostel (maybe 15-20 minutes after I was bitten) I washed the bite for 15 minutes and put iodine on it. I then went to the local hospital and asked for a rabies jab.
They gave me a jab called 'Вакцинация КОКАВ' which I looked up and translated as a vaccination brand name called 'Coca.' The only information I found on it was in Russian, linked below through google translator

Going back to turkey - problems with visa timing
Hi everyone,
This may be a simple question but the internet is very slow where I am (Lahore) and it is proving a nightmare to answer. If someone could help me it would be much appreciated.
My girlfriend (USA passport) and I (Australian passport) visited Turkey from Feb 20 - March 8 and loved it so much we want to go back on around May 10 and stay for a month. However we have three month multiple entry visas from our last visit, which will expire on May 20.
So is there a way we can extend this visa, or can we can buy new visas at the airport even though our old visas are still current?
Thanks
Ed

Labour Day, Easter Closures?
We will be in Kiev & Lviv around the Labour Day & Orthodox Easter holidays (May 1, 2 and 6). Does anyone know what we can expect in terms of museums/sights, businesses, transportation being closed. Conversely, what types of interesting Easter things might be going on? I'd imagine a service at an orthodox church would be quite interesting.
Thanks,
Sheryl

is invitation letter needed for entry Kosovo for travel by plane?
Hi all,
I have plan to visit Kosovo next month (3-11th May 2013). At first I have seen information about Visa from Kosovo ministry of foreign affairs that there is no Visa regime only valid travel document are needed to show at immigration office. But some travel forum said the invitation letter from Kosovo is also needed to show to the immigration office too.
From my understanding the invitation letter is needed only for business trip or the trip that invited from some people in Kosovo. I wonder that in case of the solo traveler does it necessary to get an invitation letter or not? And if that letter is needed anyone has recommendation?
I sent email to Kosovo ministry of foreign affairs (http://www.mfa-ks.net/) but don't have response yet.
Thanks
P.S. I travel with ordinary passport of Thailand
