early morning flight from Kiev
Hello --
Early next month I have an early morning (06:40) international flight from Kiev. What are my options for getting to the airport? Is a taxi the only way? Am I able to flag taxis down on the street? or do I need to book one in advance?
thanks
Michael

Do I need a multip[le entry visa for ukraine to cross through Moldova?
Hello. I'm planning to travel down through Ukraine and into Moldova, then out into Ukraine again. Can I do this on the standard visa issued at the airport or do I need a multiple entry visa? If so, can I get this visa at the airport and how much is it? Anyone done this please? Thanks. Tim.

Belarus visas in Odessa?
Hello,
Do any travel agencies in Odessa help with Belarus visas? I will be traveling to Odessa in June and my next stop will be Belarus, and the LP says that it's far easier to get a visa through a travel agency in Vlnius or Kiev rather than going to the consulate. But I don't know if that's possible in Odessa. Anyone know?
Thanks,
Josh

Air Onix
Does anyone have any experiences with this ariline or know if it is reliable?
I am looking to fly from Kiev to Simferopol and the time listed for their flight would be preferable to Ukraine International's, but they seem to be fairly new and I can't find much information about them.

Soviet style hostel in Kaminyets Podilsky
I foolishly arrived in KP last week without a reservation to find every hotel in town was full. The receptionist at the Gala Hotel pointed us in the direction of a soviet style sort of hostel about 300 m down the road where we were able to stay in basic 3 bed room with sink and shared toilet/showers for 75UAH per person per night! The person running the place - a lovely red haired matriarch was great and the café next door sells great food too. There was plenty of hot water and some larger and en suite rooms too though none were available when we arrived.
You can walk down to the river from the front door and it is about 15 mins walk into the old city.
Go past the Gala and Filvarki Hotels (on Lesi Ukraiyinky) to the end of the road and turn right through the wire gates and the main reception is past the run down basketball courts.

Wildlife around Pripyat/Exclusion zone
I am presently planning for an upcoming trip to Kiev, main interest is to visit Chernobyl and surrounding area. We're doing this from a professional interest (physics and medicine respectively), but will visit as 'tourists' - not organized by our job/university.
While we're there we'd like to visit the Exclusion zone a bit more, ideally hiking, with the aim of seeing some wildlife in the deserted areas. I've been in touch with a travel agency and got some quotes, but I don't think they quite get what I'm looking for. We've been offered a day on our own with a scientist from Chernobyl who's been 'looking after' the wildlife' for some years, but no information about what we might see, the possibility of seeing wildlife at all and such things. Not even whether we'll be stuck in a car all day or might get out on foot as well. When I asked about the possibility to hike on our own (outsi...

Ukraine in mid to late August
hi everyone,
I'm planning a trip to Belarus, Ukraine and Moldova (+ Transnistria) and I might be going in August, basically because I think these countries are of a few where I won't see crowds of tourists. and I hate crowds and touristy places.
but I still have a problem : I want to go to Crimea and I very well know it's a very touristy destination.
I won't spend my time on the beach as I absolutely don't care about that and I'll stick with nature and culture (Bakhchisaray, Balaklava, maybe Yalta). I just to experience past and real everyday life Crimea, not summer packed Crimea.
do you think in mid to late august, I could have a hard time getting transport in the last minute (I know trains can sometimes be full in Ukraine) ?
what about cheap accomodation (hostels or a room at a babuchka's house) ?
do you think the Khan's palace in Bakhchisaray will be full of people ?
do ...

Ukraine worth it?
Hello all!
Sorry to post this kind of question, but given my situation, I think you'll understand why.
So I have 8 days off. A Thursday to a Thursday in late May. I originally wanted to do the Prague-Krakow-Budapest trip that I have long planned, but 8 days isn't quite enough. I then thought that of going to the Ukraine, hoping to mix it in with Romania. But transport to Romania, and in the area in general, is very difficult, such that even doing just Kiev and Transylvania is kind of tight.
My other option is doing just Ukraine, Lviv, and Odessa. But the ticket is a little pricey, and it seems like a long way to go and I'm not sure that I'll be sufficiently entertained. I know that I may be saying that out of ignorance, but just perusing the travel books, there doesn't seem like much.
So unless someone knows a way to get from Kiev to Transylvania fairly quickly, ...

Where to buy Belarussian ruble in Kiev
Hello. I will arrive at night in Gomel and want to buy right away a local train ticket to Minsk. However I want to have some Belarussian rubles since I'm not sure how much time I will have available and how easy is to find an ATM near the trainstation. Also, I want to have Belarussian rubles available to pay for the obligatory medical insurrance purchased from the border police at the border.
I'm in Kiev now and couldn't find any place to buy Belarussian rubles - neither in the main banks in the center, nor at the usual exchange offices. Any tips?
Thanks

Cool bars and nice cafés in Kyiv
Hi there,
I'm a French Canadian who'll be flying to Kyiv after chilling out for a little over a week in both Paris and Barcelona. I'll probably spend around 4 days in Kyiv and then make my way to Lviv, Odessa, and maybe Crimea.
In Montréal, I organize a lot of coffee evenings and Happy Hour events. And understandably, I'd love to get some recommendations as to what you guys feel are the nicest cafés and the cool bars in Kyiv. Not the posh establishments where you pay too much for what you get. You know, the cool places where people "in the know" love to hang out. =)
Cheers,
Patrick
