I am travelling to Georgia with my girlfriend. Since we are not married can we expect people denying us to sleep in the same room? I found this to be true in east Turkey. I am curious if this may apply to Georgia?
What are your experiences?
Thank you for your answers.
I'm sorry to be the person to ask the most obvious of questions but unfortunately for me, I left my LP somewhere in my travels and haven't been able to find a new one (yet).
I've done the main hikes around Georgia, and this time I will not have any real camping equipment with me, which means I will need to stick to guesthouses around the region. Is it possible to so multiday hikes through the region staying in guesthouses at night? If so, which villages are the guesthouses located in? (A vague outline of a trail would be ideal)
Secondly, I have 5 days total (travel time to and from Tbilisi) - exactly which trails are possible (even if its only different one day hikes and I have a base)? Thirdly, where should said "base" be?
How long does it take to travel to Racha from Tbilisi, and when I jump in my marshutka am I asking for racha or for a specific village (if so, whic... more »
I have heard that there is a direct bus service from Batumi to Mestia - can anyone confirm this and, if so, provide any further details? Where and when the bus leaves, for example?
Alternatively, can anyone suggest how difficult it would be to hire a taxi to make this journey and how much that might cost?
I like trains and all that but I'm also considering going from Tbilisi to Yerevan by taxi. Can you think of any pros and cons?
The train would be a night train, therefore, nothing much to see but you could sleep and/or drink. Is there a restaurant car on the train? How about the availability in September, is it possible or required to pre-book? Does it run every night or every other night?
A taxi ride could be great fun with some cool driver. It takes something like 5 or 6 hours I think? How easy it is to find someone to take you there?
Finally, what about the cost then? Taxi is most likely far more expensive but still not impossible by Western standards?
I'm planning to visit Georgia with my girlfriend. I want to ask if it is safe to visit north part of Georgia (Svanetia). I've read about some conflict (robbery, fighting) with locals (especially in mountain regions). Is it save for us (especially for my girlfriend) to visit northern part of Georgia? Maybe it would be better to bike in the south or even go to Armenia?
(I'm posting this question on both the Ukraine and Georgia forums so don't be surprised if you see it twice...)
I'm planning on travelling from the Baltic Sea to the Caspian Sea, starting in Lithuania in late August and ending in Azerbaijan (going through Belarus, Ukraine, Georgia and Armenia) and I'm wondering what is the best way to go from Ukraine (around Sebastopol probably) to Georgia. I guess, geographically speaking, it would be to go through Russia but it means getting a Russian visa, which is apparently quite a hassle, and I'm not even sure it's possible to cross the border between Russia and Georgia.
So, if somebody has some ideas on the best (and not too expensive) way to go from Ukraine to Georgia, I would be very interested in hearing (or reading) them. I know that UKRferry used to have a ferry between Kerch and Poti but, according to their website it has been suspe... more »
Just to let people know: stayed with a really nice old lady in Khazbegi last autumn. A very clean, cheap and nice place. She also cooks vegetarian meals. I thought she could use the advertising (it's hard for her to compete with the touts at the bus station) so I whipped up a little website for her: http://khazbegi.weebly.com/ . Check it out, and if you're going I highly recommend staying with her.
Planning a two weeks trip to Georgia and Armenia, second half of October, the first question is about choosing guide. After some minutes in Amazon, two candidates at first glance: LP and Bradt. Both are, more or less, new editions so they migh't be too outdated. The two include Azerbaiyan, area I'm not interested in this trip. Bradt is heavier in number of pages and books,2. Before buying, I'm going to wait for a week. Replies to this post can do the diference, in every case they will be welcomed.
Thanks in advance
We would like to take a day tour from Tbilisi, visiting Davit Gareja, Sighnaghi and the local Vinyards. Is this possible in a day and does anyone know how we might go about organising this?
Thanks in advance!
Can anyone let me know if there is anything interesting to visit in the South Georgia, bordering Turkey. June last year we had visited the cave of Vardzia but because lack of time we had to go back to Tbilisi.
In September 2013 I'm going back to the area for a week. Besides antiques and forts I would like to know the lifestyle of the residents of the area. I prefer a rout off the beaten track.
sorry, here I am yet again with another topic.
But how do u normally transport yourself in Georgia ?
How do i get to Svaneti and Tusheti regions ? By car, airplane, bus, train ?
since im going solo, Im not particularirly interested in renting a car..if its not dirt cheap or something
Having checked the FCO website it says to avoid travel to the South Ossetia region in Georgia, having looked on a map it appears the road to Kazbegi is in South Ossetia (or very close), although the border of this region isn't clear, therefore I was wondering if it is safe to travel this road up to Kazbegi?
Thanks in advance!
Im wondering if a trip to Georgia from Sweden, leaving Sweden on the 6th and coming back on the 26th would be enough to
1. experience Tusheti and Svaneti , including multi-day hike(s)
2. Do a summit
Hello there. Four going to Georgia in August for 6 day and looking for a Russian or English speaking tour guide with car, homestaying. We want try real Georgia hospitality. Any recommendations?
Hello, I'm looking for travellers who've been recently travelling by bike in georgia. I 'm looking for quite good biking road to avoid big roads (who seem dangerous). I think we'll go to Saveneti (Zugdidi-Mestia-Ushguli-Kutaisi ) and Tusheti, may be Vardzia. Thanks for your help, SBZ
