Does anyone know how much hours of dive from Tirana to Himarë (Vlore region). Thanks!!!
Is $70 a reasonable daily budget for a single traveler, assuming dorms, buses/trains, modest eating habits, and sightseeing? Would this budget include sightseeing, or not? What sights/activities will this budget not include? I am going on a birthright trip to Israel next year, and I am considering spending a few weeks in SE Europe, but I will be on a budget. Any countries in SE Europe I didn't mention, I am also interested in.
We are planning to do a trip to Albania in september.
We want to visit also some neighbour countries (Kosovo,Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia or a piece of Bosnia)
Can someone give me any suggestions, we can't choose!
We want a combination of nature and culture, and want to do some hiking.
we are planning to do a two week road trip through Croatia, Monte Negro, Albania and maybe eventually reach Greece. So I am trying to gather info on the road conditions in Albania, cause I understand it's not the best and we don't want to spend more time driving than chilling:)
I've read other threads and seen recommendations on routes, but it would be great if someone could write more on what kind of roads can we expect?
Also, related to that, can someone help with tips on the best way to cross borders between MN and Albania and subsequently Albania and Greece?
My husband and I are planning to visit Albania at the end of August. We don't have long, and want a mixture of culture and beaches, at a fairly relaxed pace. Your thoughts on the following would be most welcome.
Day 1 - Tirana
Day 2 - Berat
Day 3 - Stop at Gjirokastra and then on to Saranda
Day 5 - Saranda with a trip to Butrint
Day 5 and 6 - Himara/Dhermi/other beautiful beach location!
Day 7 - Vlora
Day 8 - Bus to Tirana and flight home
Basically, we want a fairly relaxed and stress free trip.
How easy is it to travel between places, we would be totally reliant on public transport! I have had a look at the bus timetable http://www.matinic.us/albania/furgon.php
but cant find a bus between Gjirokastra and Saranda. Also for Himara and Dhermi I assume we catch the coastal bus heading to Vlora/Durres and then ask it to drop us off here? How easy is it then to flag... more »
we are a family of four (Kids 10 and 15) we are flying to Corfu and ferrying to Albania where we have a friendly contact with accommodation . We are flying back 3 weeks later from Split in Croatia and want to take in Montenegro. We'd probably like to stay as coastal as possible and are not overly interested in big cities as we live in London. I get the feeling that transport is possible between the three countries. Has anyone done this journey recently? Also we are on the lowest possible budget and obviously safety is a concern with our kids.We have already spent a fair bit of time in Croatia so that is not our priority.
All advice welcome, thanks
I am planning to visit Albania on September for 3 weeks, most of them hiking in the north.
For cooking I have a gas stove. but I have a problem, I don't know if there are gas cans i can buy.
Does anyone know if I will be able to find gas?
If not, is there another solution for cooking outdoors?
Thanks for helping,
We will fly to Corfu and take the ferry to Sarande. Does anyone know when the ferry leaves Corfu in the morning??
Is it still possible to visit the Albanian Alps in the begin of October ? Do the guest houses remain open ? Is there still some public transport ? Can I hike in the mountains ?
I am probably gonna go to Albania this September or October, and need help with my itinerary.
I know more or less the places I would like to visit, but not exactly the order or how long is needed for each place.
I am a bit limited in time and my intention is doing Southern Albania and Corfu in about 2 weeks.
So this is how I have it so far:
Day 1 - Tirana
Day 2 - Tirana
Day 3 - Durres (as a day trip from Tirana)
Day 4 - Kruja (as a day trip from Tirana)
Day 5 - Berat
Day 6 - Berat
Day 7 - Dhermi
Day 8 - Dhermi
Day 9 - Gjirokaster
Day 10 - Sarande
Day 11 - Sarande (day trip to Butrint)
Days 12-14 Corfu
Here are some of my uncertainties and thoughts:
1. Getting from Berat to Dhermi - I couldn't figure out how to do this route, i'm guessing via Vlore, I hope someone can confirm.
2. Dhermi to Gjirokaster - again seems to be a hassle, which makes me thin... more »
Heading for Albania next week and still havent been able to sort out the sleeping accomondation for the cities Krujë, Gjirokastër and Dardhë.
Are there any advice on places to stay?
Prefer homestay as it is cheaper and also as we have a tent we have no problems with pitching it somewhere.
What are the rules(laws) around tenting in Albania?
I am planning a trip to Albania for this August. Both Berat and Gjirokastër sound worth visiting but they also sound quite similar.
If I just visit one, which one should I pick.
And any infomation about accomodation infor for either town. Is it easy to find reasonable homestays without planning ahead?
I will enter Albania from Ohrid in Macedonia -
what's the best way to get across to Berat or Gjirokastër from Podredec or Korçё?
My girlfriend and I plan to travel down by car from Budapest and spend 4 days in Albania.
We have not booked accomodation yet : Can we easily find accomodation on the spot, day by day, is it okay/safe to not book in advance?
What jewels of the south and along the Kosovo border should not be missed ?
We are not so keen on ruins, but rather on ancient, yet still lived-in architecture in old villages or towns - and nature.
Thank you very much for your advice, tell us what you liked !
Am thinking of doing some backpacking in Albania. Is it easy to change pound sterling in the exchange places? If not would US dollars or Euros be better? I am planning on using my debit card at the ATMs but just in case it doesn't work I prefer to take some cash as well. Thanks, Sarah.
Next week I will make a trip from Belgrade down to Kosovo, then through Albania to Macedonia.
In this trip I would like to take the Koman ferry. I already know that it leaves from Fierze around 6 am, but what is the best place to sleep before taking that ferry? Is it possible to leave from Kosovo and make it to this ferry in the morning, or is it necessary to sleep in Bajram Curri or Fierze?
After arriving in Koman/Shkodra, I would like to continue straight up to Theth, since I do not have so much time on this trip. I cannot find information however, on how to get to Theth and when possible buses leave. Can anyone help me with that?
These two things I would really like to do on my trip, but they seem very hard to organise, so I hope someone has some good tips!
