I'm looking for a reasonable accommodation in Irkutsk. Any suggestions?
Does anyone have an idea if a train ticket from St Peters to Moscow should be booked well in advance before arriving in Russia or can this ticket be purchased in St Peters a few days before travel ?
Has anyone booked a ticket for this train before hand on the Russian web site ? If so, is it easy and does it work ? What is the best site to use to book these tickets ?
Any info would be much appreciated.
We are traveling across northern China to Far east of Russia. Our first point in that country will be Vladivostok. We want to make some treks and camp outside in the tent, but where we are now it's hardly possible to buy a camping gas (from companies like Primus, MSR, Coleman etc.). Do you know if we can find some outdoor equipment shop in Vladivostok? Russian people like to go outdoors sometimes, so maybe there we can find anything.
Thaks for help!
could anyone tell if it's advisable to travel with Infoflot, especially on a cruise between Moscow and Kazan (safety, atmosphere, food, etc.)?
Would you recommend this company ?
Thanks for your advice!

I'm applying for a russian visa in the UK and am currently wading through the visa application form on the VFS website. I have an invitation/tourist voucher from way to russia, they have used a company called INTELSERVICE CENTER. I have recieved the invitation and put the info they gave me on the application form. Now I am at a page which is asking which hotels I'm going to be staying in, I haven't been provided with this information on the invite/voucher and have no idea what I'm supposed to write here as it seems the hotels listed on the visa form are supposed to corespond with the (non existant) hotels on the tourist voucher. If any one knows how to do this your advice would be much appreciated.
In Mid-June I am hoping to hop on the train in Beijing and ride it all the way to Moscow. But I am still unclear about the best way to get tickets and visas.
Does anyone have experience organizing this sort of trip from within China? It would seem like I have to spend a bit of time in Beijing to buy tickets and go to Russian Embassy, but I live in Yunnan, very far from Beijing.
Any other advice on when I should buy the tickets? I'm using American passport, is it harder or easier to get to get visas?
Perhaps naively, I intend to apply for a Russian tourist visa in person at the Russian consulate in Montreal. So far as I can tell, the only document for which I will need outside assistance is the sacrosanct invitation letter with its über-important registration number... Hence my questions:
1) Has anyone here experience in securing a Russian visa by applying in person? I'm mostly interested in feedback from Canadian and American passport holders, since we seem to be lumped together by Russian authorities and have to fill out the same application form detailing everything we've done and everywhere we've been since the day we were born....
2) Can anyone recommend a reputable agency to obtain an invitation letter?
Most visa agencies seem to merrily overcharge. I'd rather bypass them altogether by paying the 75 CAD fee posted on the Russian consulate's website, out of principle... more »
I'm travelling (visa complications permitting) to Taganrog and possibly Rostov-on-Don on the Black Sea in southern Russia in a few weeks as part of a theatre course I'm doing.
Just wondering if anyone has any accomodation recommendations in the area and also any places they would recommend seeing as I'm planning to take a week to travel round after the course..
I intend to visit family in Europe for this coming summer. Thought of of going one way on the trans Siberian. But from Aus buying a one way ticket doesn't make sense - price wise.
How are ppl usually handling this? i also read somewhere that the trans S is a bit cheaper from west to east than the other way...
Unless i go both ways on the TSR in which case i wonder if it would be possible to get another visa for Russia and China, again just a few months later?
I have an Aus passport but could acquire a Swiss one as well if that would be of advantage, for instance to enter Scandinavia?
Any info much appreciated, k.
Tours and trips around Ekaterinburg
We would heartily recommend Ekaterinburg Guide Centre http://www.ekaterinburgguide.com/i.php?to=services if you are going to be in Ekaterinburg and looking for local advice and support to arrange a trip out of the city, and they can also help with accommodation options, including flats, and city tours.
When we were there in 2011 we met with Konstantin, once we found their office (call first to get directions) and he was really friendly and helpful, along with the efficient practical support of his female colleagues! We took a local flat for 3 days in the city, which was good value and clean. We also arranged through Konstantin to stay 5 nights in a basic lodge in the forest park. They could offer a variety of destinations with different emphasis depending on what you wanted. He listened carefully to what we wanted, was knowledgeable about... more »
We are looking for a way to get from Novsibirks or Barnaul to Mongolia (Ulgii) by car. Does anybody know a driver or travel agency which would organize such a trip for 2 people?
Thanks for your help
Hi there, has someone used this travel agency before? I would appreciate if you can give me any feedback on their reliability. thanks.
We were advised by the travel nurse to carry sterile needles in case of accident when driving in Russia. However I have read that the police specifically search for and ask about whether you are carrying them but they didn't say why. Does anyone have any thoughts about what best to do?
My boyfriend and I are currently living in Suva, Fiji. We're looking to travel back to the UK via Russia and Eastern Europe- but we're really struggling to find a suitable place to get a Russian visa on the way.
We originally thought Seoul might be a good option, but visas seem to be only available to residents, or only sometimes to lucky tourists. Hong Kong/KL are other possibilities- again, not consistent though.
Our other thought has been New Zealand. Has anybody had any experience obtaining a Russian visa in New Zealand when they are a non-resident? I am British, my boyfriend is Canadian.
Thanks for reading,
We are looking for a nice accommodation in St. Petersburg and we have got two options:
1.Budget around 100€-120€ a night per room for a nice hotel, pension. Is this realistic?
2. Does anybody now if there are B&B accommodation options where you can stay with local families? Budget no idea.
Thanks in advance for any hint.
