Hi
Is the border between Russia and Abkhazia open?
How about the bridge between Georgia and Abkhazia?
I would like to drive my own car from Georgia to Abkhazia and enter Russia from here, do you reckon it's possible?
Thanks
Daniel

Hello,
I have searched around this forum and the web but could not find real information.
These 3 roads to Shatili, to Tusheti (Omalo) and Svanetia (Mestia) are known to be difficult and drivable only by 4WD.
But how difficult is it really ?
I plan to drive on these roads in July/August with a 4WD (Lada Niva most probably).
I am looking for experiences and opinions from people who drove there with a rented 4WD car.
I am not afraid of orientation, only of breaking the car !
or would you recommend I rent a car with a driver or join a group ?

Hi,
I will be in Georgia 28.12-4.1 and I have a couple of questions.
We plan to ski for a couple of days - which place is better - Gudauri or Bakuriani? What we look for is a mix of alpine and x-country skiing, but also some town-experience (apres ski?).. Can we rent quality skis there or is it better to bring them from home? How about renting cross country skis?
We also plan to spend a couple of days in Tbilisi... How many days should we book to see the highlights of the city? Any suggested day trips?
And final question - which is the best place to spend New Years Eve? Tbilisi, Gudauri or Bakuriani?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions,
Michal

I am going to be in Georgia next week for about 6 days and was wondering what destinations are best visited in December? I will most likely stay in Tbilisi 3 nights but was wondering if there is any other recommended destinations for this time of year? Is Kazbegi still accessible/lively this time of year?
Thanks,
Jon

Hello everyone,
I am looking into a flight from Georgia to eastern Ukraine next year, and I've found out that this TAM airline operates on those routes. There is not much information regarding the airline online, and the official website is not very useful.
Does anyone know how to book their flights, preferably from outside Georgia, and how much i could expect to pay?
Also, while I usually not feel the need to worry much about airline safety and comfort these days, it would still be interesting to hear about your experiences with this airline.
thanks
edit: no, I haven't contacted them myself yet. Will do.

Hi
I have finally made it to Georgia (thanks for the advice guys).
Owing to the short time I have, I have time to only see 1 set of caves. Does anyone have an opinion as to which are the best to see?
I had originally intended to go to Vardzia, but was recently told that David Garetka (pls forgive the spelling) might be nicer, and then heard a dissenting voice in favour of those near Gori.
Can anyone comment/recommend?
Thanks
Robert

Hi
I am going to Georgia for a week (all the time I could get) and want to be sure to see Vardzia.
The guidebook I have is not very specific about times and distances.
Can anyone tell me how long (including waiting for a bus) it would take to get from Tbilisi to Batumi, Batumi to Akhaltsikhe and from there to Vardzia?
To see Vardzia is it best to stay overnight in Akhaltsikhe or can anyone recommend somewhere else from where I can do a day trip?
Thanks in advance for your help.

I just wanted to add my experience with getting the Abkhazian "visa". Although a bit of a pain, it's definately worth it.http://joestrippin.blogspot.com/2009/11/abkhazia-bureaucracy.html

I have been to Georgia a couple of itmes before - great place! - but this time will be arriving by ship from Ukraine. Does anyone know the approximate cost of a taxi to Tbilisi? I understand that there are usually one or two waiting at the dock ...
Thanks

I saw there is more activites there than on the Armenia branch. So I post also here. Thank you.
Hello all,
I will visit Armenia and Georgia (or viceversa) at the end of March and beginning of April 2010. Total stay will be 10 days - 2 weeks. I read that Easter in 2010 it's April 4th and Palm Sunday is one week before.
I'm interested to see religious ceremonies.
Where are the BEST locations to see UNIQUE Easter Ceremonies (including Palm Sunday)?
Special Eastern events amywhere?
Where to be for Easter proper: Georgia or Armenia?
Now I'm buying the air ticket (I must decide if I will fly in Georgia/out from Armenia or fly in Armenia/ out from Georgia)... so my question "in advance".
Happy travels
T.H.

Hi.
I'm a British woman, and am planning a three-week trip to Georgia and Azerbaijan in October. (I'm never ususally this last-minute, but sometimes needs must.) I'll be travelling on my own, and speak no Russian or Georgian.
Three weeks is obviously a very limited time, and I imagine the lack of language will be a problem. So I was thinking of arranging an organised tour for at least part of the time. So far, I've spoken to a Georgian agency that's quoted me €1,300 for nine days, going as far north as Kazbegi, and as far west as Zugdidi and Mestia. They cram a lot in - far more than I could ever manage on my own - but it's not cheap.
So, my question is: am I right to assume that lack of language and time, and being a solo traveller, will make it difficult for me to see a reasonable amount of Georgia in the space of 10 or 11 days? Or should I give it a go on my own? Does the...
