Camping in Khosrov Reserve

Has anyone been camping in Khosrove Nature Reserve? The Armeniapedia page (http://armeniapedia.org/wiki/Khosrov_Nature_Reserve) says we just need to call someone for permission, but I want to ask here first. Please share anything you think might be useful.

Thanks!

Road from Karabakh to Lake Sevan

Dear Community

I am planning to cycle around Armenia this summer. On my map there is a second road connecting Karabakh to "Mother Armenia"; from the north of NK across to Lake Sevan.

Could anybody offer any information as to whether it is likely to be able to get through? It would be a pain to have to bike from the north of NK all the way back to Stepanakert and westwards to Armenia again.

Many thanks in advance for any concrete advice.

Mount Aragats

I am travelling to Armenia in July and would like to try and climb Mt. Aragats. Does anyone know of a tour operator that can assist? How long does it take to climb? Is it feasible for a not-professional climber?

Accommodation in Stepanakert, Nagorno-Karabakh

I am not sure if this has been posted before, but if you wish to have a Soviet apartment living experience while in Stepanakert, and watch daily live unfold as it probably has done since the days of Uncle Joseph, you can follow the instructions herein.

Once arrived in Stepanakert central bus station on the main Azatamartikneri Street, walk down hill to the roundabout.
At about the 1o'clock position there is an optical / eyeware / glasses shop, go there.
Inside, ask for Christian, who hopefully will rent you the said apartment which is about 700m away, and take you there.
He will also try to sell you his woodworks.
The apartment is on the top floor (5th floor).
It has running gas, hot cold water and electricity. No internet, but a friendly neighbour internet café is just nearby with reasonably speed.
Price is negotiable, AMD 5000.

Yerevan to Kars (Turkey) directly

Hi, I am planning to go to Tblisi in Georgia, then to Yerevan in Armenia and subsequently to Turkey (Kars and then eventually to Istanbul). I am aware that I have to through Georgia again because the border between Armenia and Turkey is closed, but I don't want to go by Tblisi again unless that is the only reaslistic option.

I found a route by Gyumri (Armenia), Akhaltsikhe (Georgia), and Posof (Turkey).

Is this a feasible and sensible plan? Does anyone have a clue how much time it takes?

Visa on Arrival

Ok, new post, I can't figure out how to delete the old one I made...

I am from New Zealand and my friend is from Australia. My friend and I want to enter Armenia from Georgia by land, we don't have visas. Can anyone confirm (as much as you can without being an official visa provider) that this is possible? Has anyone done this recently?

Thanks

Visa on arrival

I am wanting to bus from Tblisi to Yerevan. I've read that visas on arrival are possible at the Armenian border. Does anyone have any recent expeience with this? Is it possible? What's the process like? I'm also hoping to bus from Yerevan to Tehran. Does anyone know if this is realistic, and if so, what the land border I'd cross into Iran at would be? (I'm also going to post this last qu in an Iran thread).

Thanks!

Getting to Armenia?

I've got it into my head that I want to visit Armenia this summer, but I'm a broke student - does anyone have any recommendations for a cheap way to get there from the UK? I don't mind long overland coach routes! Can't find much information on the internet...

Thanks for any tips!

Yerevan - Kars

Hi,

I am travelling from Yerevan to Kars (Turkey) early next month, and am finding it difficult to find any information on any routes we could take. From what I can see, there might be a bus between Yerevan and Alkhaltsikhe (Georgia), and, from there, there does not seem to be a clear route. Has anyone got any experience of this route, or could simply advise? Also, should we be prepared to stay overnight in Alkhaltsikhe?

Many thanks!

Sam

Questions about travel to the Caucasus (Janapar, NKR, Georgia, Yerevan)

Hello! I'm new to the forums and new to traveling. I've actually never been abroad before but I've been enchanted by the Caucasus since I found out about Georgia. I have recently begun to plan my first international adventure, and I have chosen to make walking the Janapar a big part of it. I've been trawling the internet looking for all the info I can get about this, but it hasn't been easy since that movie/book about the guy on the bike came out. And as helpful as the resources I've found have been, I know there's nothing like having a direct line of communication to someone who has been there. So if you have been, I would be extremely grateful to glean some advice or insight from your personal experiences.

To give you a better understanding of the situation: I am almost 25, in pretty good shape (I run 3 to 4 miles a day, 4 to 5 days a week and I eat very well, no health condition... more »
