Exit Visa details

Hi all,
I didn't see my specific questions answered in the previous discussions....if I missed it please forgive me, not blast me...
1) I seem to recall seeing something with the new law about people needing to renew their visas if they were issued anytime except very recently......does this mean the entire country of passport holders will be renewing now or after January 14th? I can't find the source of this information so maybe it's business as usual for passports?
2) My BF was just issued a Canadian PR (YAY!!!!) and now somebody told us we still need a Cert de Invitacion because it's the first time leaving the country. When I contacted the consulate here, they confirmed that!!! BUT....the form he sent also states "En caso de tener residencia permanente o ciudadanía canadiense no necesita Carta de Invitación"....WTF?! Es Cuba no? He's asking in his local Office de immigracion... more »

Can I get CUC pesos using my Canadian Mastercard or debit card?

I'm a bit confused about how to obtain CUC pesos in Cuba. Can I use my Canadian (Bank of Montreal) Mastercard and/or debit card? A friend suggestedthat my GF and I each take a few hundred Canadian dollars and exchange them for CUC pesos. What's the best way to go? I understand it's best to get small denomination CUC pesos. Are 20 peso notes too big?

Solo Traveller 2 weeks in Cuba

Hello !

I am a Solo traveller (male 23) Heading to Cuba in January. Was hoping to hear from anyone who has gone to Cuba solo and what their experiences were of doing so. I am recently returned from 5 months in South East Asia and am not expecting a scene like that !!

I am thinking of catching the train (possibly the French one ?) to Santiago de Cuba then working back up towards Havana. Anyone got any must see's or must not see's ?!

Any other advice would be great

Thanks

Mark

Vinales & Cayo Levisa in 4 days

Hi everyone,

Im off to Cuba in March for three weeks and need help finalising the last part of my trip, so Im calling on your expertise :-)

My friends and I would like to visit Vinales and Cayo Levisa for a few days before flying home. If possible we'd like to spend at least 2 days in Vinales and at least 1 night on Cayo Levisa (is this reasonable for these places?).

We leave our group on a Sunday morning and dont need to be back at Havana Airport until Thursday morning, 4 days later, as we fly out at 4pm... Are we being over ambitious or is this doable?? It would be nice to have some chill out time before heading home.

Does anyone have suggestions on the easiest/fastest way to visit these places, without costing a fortune?? I know the public bus goes to Vinales (around 3-4hrs), but it seems getting to Cayo Levisa from Vinales is a little harder, as I think the boa... more »

One week in Cuba-7 days/ 6 nights-Please suggest itinerary!

Hi people,

I have gone through the listings here but couldn't find anything suitable.

For the mid-range budget traveller willing to hire car or take a bus/plane please can someone suggest an itinerary given that I enjoy:

Nice hotels
Eco-tourism
Hiking
Flora and Fauna
Beaches/swimming/diving/snorkelling
Architecture
+Food/music/dancing+I heard the West of Havana is meant be nice like Vinales. But in one week is it enough time to go there and back to Havana?

*Air Cubana flights*-does anyone know the schedule for Air Cubana flights from Santo Domingo to Santiago de Cuba to Havana and from Havana to Santo Domingo? I emailed the sales office because their website was down but they were not very helpful:))

Cubana flight experience anyone

Am planning on flying from Havana to Mexico City on Cubana to connect to an AeroMexico flight to Los Angeles. The flight from Havana is supposed to arrive Mexico City at 7.50am and my connecting flight leaves Mexico City at 2.30pm.

Is this sufficient time to take into account delays? Or do I need to spend a night in Mexico to be on the safe side?

Any other suggestion to be able to connect to the AeroMexico flight?

Thanks

Whole house/appartment for rent in Havana

Peeps who know Havana,
we plan to visit Havana in a group of 6 people February/March 2013. We would like to rent a house preferably in the neighborhood of Miramar, Playa for 2 weeks.

Who can give us some options we can explore as everybody suggest a casa particular but we need a whole casa, not just a room in somebody's house.

Thanks in advanced,
Django

Cuba Travel Network: Money charged but no tickets. What should I do?

Hi,

I attempted to buy roundtrip flight tickets from Cancun to Havana for two people.
However, somehow it didn't work despite several attempts, and I received an e-mail from Cuba Travel Network that my transaction is failed next day.
But when I checked my bank account it showed that money was charged fully.

What should I do? I attempted to call their service centers in Europe and in Americas, but couldn't reach them.
Also, haven't received any reply to my e-mail request.

Is Cuba Travel Network reliable?

It would be nice if anyone can suggest me how to solve this problem.
Thank you.

Vancouver to Havane mid January

I should be in Vancouver mid to late January on my way to Havana
Are there usually a lot of seats around then?
Any tips on a good airline?
Approximate costs (ball park estimation OK)?
How long is the flight approximately?
I am not asking for exactitude just a general idea would be fine.
Any recommendations of a good hotel in Vancouver?
Any pitfalls about this journey to avoid?
Many thanks

Cubana de Aviacion Website

Is there a secret to navigating this website? I have been trying to find fare information and timetables from several devices (PC, Laptop, iPod) and have no luck, so far.

The dropdowns for origins or destinations aren't 'live' on the Home page ~ Destinations and Itinerary page goes to 404 Error message.

I appreciate comments and suggestions - considering a Cancun-Havana side trip in January 2013, I will be in Quintana Roo for several weeks. Just trying to see if it's economically feasible ~ I've researched casa particulars from this forum, and have an idea of how I would get the best experience with a short stay in Havana (long stay is just not possible)... thanks to all for their high quality suggestions and links :) - this is a terrific community.

We rent a car, Cuban drives?

If my travel partner and I were to rent a car in Havana under one of our names, can a Cuban friend drive it? Or, since we're not too keen on driving, especially in and out of cities, can he rent a car (and we'll pay, of course) and we drive it occasionally?
