Birdwatching tour in Costa Rica
We are researching for a recommended and reputable company that offers birdwatching tours of 5 to 6 days. We are shy of just going by what companies say about themselves on the net. Anyone have any suggestions?

5 Day Last Minute Trip in June
Hi All,
My friend and I (both young women) are planning a last-minute, very quick trip to Costa Rica. I will be staying 4 nights/5 days, and my friend might extend her trip a few days after. We were planning on arriving in SJO early on Sunday, and heading straight to Arenal, stopping in La Fortuna on the way, and then staying in Arenal for 2 nights. From there, we'd either go to Manuel Antonio or to Jaco, or to Monteverde. We are very nature-oriented but also enjoy beaches.
A few questions--
1. Does it make sense to stop in La Fortuna on the way from SJO or will it be too late to do any hiking (we land at around 11 am)?
2. Between Monteverde, Jaco, and Manuel Antonio, where should we go for the second two nights?
3. Should we rent a car, given our short timeframe?
4. Are there any safety issues we have to be aware of, given that we are two young girls?
Thanks every...

great way to see the Panamanian country side
I just took (a few days ago) a bus ride across the country from Bocas Del Toro to Panama City by bus. Because I left late I took a bus from Bocas to David and then a bus to Panama City instead of the direct bus. Most of the time, the buses going from David to Panama City are one of those double decker buses. Just on a whim I requested the seats on the top deck, right in front against the window and they were available. The seats are 1, 2, 3, and 4 and the window goes from floor to ceiling. The ride was around 6 hours and I took the 9:30 PM bus. Right outside of David the highway changes to a two lane road with trees sometimes growing out over the road causing a foliage tunnel. The whole ride was going though a constant lightning storm with no rain. I was very tired but I could not take my eyes off the road and all the cantinas and houses and dogs and push button hotels and trucks full... more »
Useful apps for tourists
Hi everyone
Just wanna share with you some helpful information
If you have a smartphone, iPhone, iPad or any kind of gadget, I recommend you to look through these applications. That's an awesome collection of apps for travelling: maps, subway and airport schemes, apps which help to find cheap hotel booking or rent a car, various travel guides, translators and so on.
I went to Austria and enjoyed Vienna Travel Guide a lot
There are really good reviews and also I liked that most of all apps are free :)

Planning to go to Flores through Guatemala city
Hi everyone, I'm new on here and this will be my first trip alone. I am a single male going to Guatemala to visit the Mayan ruins in Flores. I am hoping to take the 5 day hike through El Mirador.
Details of my trip: I will be flying June 28th most likely from JFK airport in New York City and return July 9th. Because flying to Flores is expensive, I plan to take the overnight bus from Guatemala City to Flores (where I will stay at the Los Amigos Youth Hostel) after flying in to La Aurora International Airport. TACA airlines which flies from JFK has a flight that reaches Guatemala City at 3:20 pm.
A few questions for you lonelyplanet members:
1. I understand the overnight bus leaves at 9 and 10 pm but does it stop at the airport? Or will I have to go to the bus terminal and if so what is the best way to get there from the airport?
2. How can I spend the 4-5 hours I will...

Trip report - Honduras
I just found an alternative route from La Ceiba or Trujillo to Tegucigalpa, thought I would post as this info is not in even the best LP travel guide to Honduras Instead of going via El Paraiso on a direct bus to La Ceiba one can leave Tegucigalpa in the afternoon for a 3 hour bus journey to Juticalpa from Comayaguela, find a cheap hotel on the little side street where the Elektra shop (very visible) is (I was in Hotel Maravillas) and then at 5am the next morning from the other side of the main road from the Elektra shop there is a bus that goes via San Esteban and up to Tocoa (where you change for Trujillo) and on to La Ceiba itself. Most of the road is not pavement so its a bit of a rough journey but actually this is what some of we hardened travelers like most, and the views are spectacular, you get to Ceiba about 3pm so it is a 10 hour journey Cant understand why LP haven't mentio... more »
