From Buenos Aires to Puert Viejo (Limon)

Hi everyone,

Could anyone tell me how I would go about getting from Buenos Aires, Costa Rica to Puerto Viejo de Talamanca? I would like to do it as inexpensively as possible, but still get there in a decent amount of time.

Thanks in advance.

Spanish School - Escuela de Español El Portal

I took lessons at this lovely intimate professional school in Xela (Quetzaltenango).
I have hear of this school from a friend that lives in xela and knows the director personaly. after only taking 8 hours of spanish lessons in total i can tell you it has totaly improved my spanish - the teachers can testify :-)
Also i can assure you it's the lowest price you will find in guatemala that is offered in a proffesional school with teachers that know exactly what they are doing.
besides the spanish it was a pleasure spending time with the staff and the students. had a tipical guatemalan BBQ, went to visit some viligas in the area, and of course going out for a beer or biliards :-)

Muy recomendable!

public bus SJ to Brasilito

I would like to take the public bus from SJ to Brasilito after 11 am. I have an appt. I could be done earlier or a little later. The direct goes to late and I want to get there faster. I went to thebusschedule.com. I figured a route from SJ to Liberia which leaves hourly and then I could go Liberia to Huacas and then a taxi or Liberia to Brasilito depending which is faster. Is there another route or is this the best one? Gracias.

Bus from Antigua to Mexico City

Okay, so my flight keeps on getting cancelled from Guate to DF! I need to fly out to NYC on Wed so in case my flight gets cancelled again (it´s been cancelled twice already) I need to know how I can get to Mexico City from Antigua. Quickest suggestions possible since money is not an issue at this point!

Thanks!

New Hotel(s) on the Corn Islands?

I'm planning a trip to the Corn Islands (Big and Little) and I read somewhere that there were a couple new hotels to open on the islands in the last year or two, but now I can't find the post mentioning the hotel names. Does anyone know which hotels are newest to the islands?

Thanks much!

Need Help for San Blas

Hello together,

i like to travel to San Blas.

My favorite is to stay direct with the locals on a real small island perhaps with the possibility to travel to other small islands.

Can someone recommend a travel agency or something?

Is it a good idea to take a plain or ist it better to take a bus?

Plain to El Porvenir
or where is the best place to start such a trip?

Thanks very much for Answers

Getting out of the airport/Belize city...

Hi! I'm headed into Belize this weekend on a completely last minute trip (for 10 days) and as a solo female traveller. I've backpacked a few times before but this will be the first adventure on my own so I'm trying to gather info on everything I can!

My flight gets into Belize City at 3:18 and I'm hoping for a bit of guidance on options given my flight arrival time. Ideally I'd like to avoid Belize City altogether and thought I might head straight to San Ignacio. This is a fine option yes? It sounds like getting to the cayes would be a bit easier but I was hoping to save those for last. From what I can gather, these are my options:

a) taxi into Belize city bus stop and catch the bus to San Ignacio. But by the time I grab my crap and get out of the airport it will be even later and I'm not sure that taxi'ing into the Belize City bus stop to get the San Ignacio bus would be the be... more »

Belize v. Costa Rica v. El Salvador v. Honduras

hi,
my family and i were planning to go to a tropical destination over winter break. We are looking for a place with the right balance of history, beauty, and good prices (preferably hotels/resorts in the 100-300 range). Initially this was a choice between belize and costa rica. But, we brought el salvador and honduras into the mix for two reasons:
1) The plane from LAX has to land in el salvador before it goes to belize. not a very good reason, i know. but also, el salvador is probably the least known and least traveled of all central american countries. I thought maybe there might be some hidden secrets waiting there for us :)
2) Honduras is seen as the cheaper alternative to Belize or Costa Rica. I base this off of many forums i have red. Also, honduras has mountains, which might be fun, although we will probably stay at the most for 12 days, and we are mostly there to relax, so... more »

Fly out of Managua or Liberia?

Obviously Liberia is closer to where I plan to end a Nicaragua trip just out of San Juan del Sur, but which would be the better way to exit Nicaragua to go home? I figure it might actually be Managua due to cheaper transportation and not having to wait to cross the border, which I hear can take quite awhile. I'm not so sure though.

I plan to fly in to Managua, move on to Granada imediately, laguna Apoyo, Mombacho, Isla de Ometepe, San Juan del Sur then ________ and exit over a span of two weeks.

Guatemala Trip Advice

Greetings!

In a few weeks, I am heading to Guatemala with my girlfriend after a work trip to El Salvador and need a little guidance...

It's unfortunate we only have 1 week, but we've narrowed it down to just Antigua and Lake Atitlan. For such a short trip, we really don't want to spend a lot of time on buses...we'll have to save some of the other great sites for future trips.

Based on what I've read, seen, and our interests, I think we'd prefer to spend more time at Lake Atitlan than Antigua.

Antigua: 3 nights (we arrive at night)
**Check out the town, coffee finca, Pacaya Volcano and Kawilal Spa (1 day)

Lake Atitlan: 4 nights

    • hiking, nature reserve and zipline, relax..other tips?

Our return flight leaves GUA at 2pm (Sunday), so I'm wondering if we should go back to Antigua the night before instead of going from the Lake? If we did this, we'd just stay 2 n... more »
