Will I need to make reservations?
Hello fellow travelers!
My sister, girlfriend and I are planning a trip to Honduras for around two weeks in late February 2013, spending about half of our time on the mainland and the other half on Roatan to do some diving.
My girlfriend and I have some experience traveling overseas, mostly through SE Asia, and are hoping to keep this trip as open and spontaneous as possible. Throughout Asia we never had any problems finding a place to stay. We would show up in a town bus or train station, take a peek at our guidebook, fight through the crowds of touts, and scope out 2 or three spots before finding the one that fit us the best.
My Sister, on the other hand, hasn't traveled out of the country before and seems to be getting a little anxious about planning out the trip. I have gotten a few texts from her in the past few days saying that she has been researching places to stay...

itinerary advice 22 days Jan-Feb + other questions
Hi There, after lurking for a while I still need some advice.
Me and my girlfriend are planning to visit CR in february, probably from january 27 to february 18 but airline hasnt been booked yet. We are having some difficulties figuring out the best route and wether to rent a car for our stay or not.
Our objective is quite common, to explore the variaty of nature and wildlife CR has to offer and relax on some beaches as well. We would prefer to do this at ease, not rushing through the whole country never staying anywhere more than one night. We like nature, but not necessarily ziplines.
Our total budget (excluding airfare) is roughly US$2200 per person. Where possible we prefer to travel midrange (hotel, private room).
We made a list of things that looked nice to us, but i think this list is a bit too long for our stay. Besides this I am having some trouble to decide wethe...

Hello everyone.
Several years ago I spent a year in Mexico and it was of course, incredible. Now I have the bug again but I can only do 2 weeks so I'm hitting the spots listed above. I feel pretty confident I can get around and see what i want to see but I just don't want to waste time looking for places to saty once I get there.
I'm sure it has been posted a thousand times on this thread but if anyone can help me out and hook me up with some info I'd gladly buy you a beer if we run into each other!
Anyway, since I only have a short time to travel I want to stay in comfortable hotels or posadas or whatever. Just looking for relaxing, clean friendly places. I am on a budget but not as much as if I was staying for months so I'd really like to spend $10 U.S. a night or less, but I can go up in price it anyone thinks its a must stay there type of place.
Also, with a 2 week it...

10 day recommendation from Vancouver
HI there,
Looking for advice and recommendations of somewhere for my wife and I to visit in central America sometime between February and March of next year. We are in our 30's and are looking for somewhere with lush forests/scenery, nice places to snorkel or dive, nature, and some hiking. Ideally somewhere within a reasonably priced flight from Vancouver.
We are not interested in sandy, windy, sunburn city all-inclusive type places or big busy tourist attractions. Nightlife not so important but good food is!
Also looking for somewhere that won't cost an arm and a leg, ideally <$60USD a night. Small guesthouses would be our preference. We are also looking for options inthe Caribbean and I will be posting the same message in that branch.
Have been to the Bay Islands (Utila) and through much of Honduras and Nicaragua. We didn't really like Nicaragua that much, Honduras...

Tikal by Bus
Hi, Guys!
This is my first post here in LP Forum and I hope someone can solve me one question. I'm going in January to Guatemala and I wanna go to Tikal by bus. I saw that there is one daily bus at 21:00 and 22:00 leaving Guatemala City and arriving Flores in the other day. Is it necessary to buy in advance? The website don't have one online plataform to sell tickets... Do you think it is ok to buy in the same day?
The other question is: How can I go from the bus station of Flores to Tikal? There is another bus or do I have to take one tour? My time is short there, so Im thinking to take one tour there.

Going to Costa Rica for 10 days in January, where to go? Where to avoid?
Hello all!
I am new to these forums and seeking advice from Costa Ricans/people who have travelled to Costa Rica. I am going to Costa Rica for 10 days in January. We will be flying in and out of Liberia. I am travelling with my boyfriend and my best friend & we are renting a car.
Basically, we are trying to decide where to go. High on our list of things to do is rafting, ziplining, going to the sloth sanctuary, fishing, seeing a volcano & checking out some awesome beaches.
I want to have a great, stress free time. What I don't want is to try to pack in too much and spend most of our trip driving around. So, seasoned CRers, how many destinations would you recommend we undertake with our 10 day window? And if you could only go to 2 or 3 places, which would you recommend?
Thanks very much!

I'm arriving in Managua on December 25th at 1:30pm. I'm looking for a ride, or to share the cost of a shuttle to Playa Santana (near Popoyo/Rivas). Thanks!
Travel from Frontera Corozal to Tikal
Would anyone have any information on travel from Frontera Corozal to Tikal? I plan to take a shuttle from Palenque to Frontera Corozal to stay for a couple of days. But don't know how to get to Tikal. Haven't been able to find much online.

Questions regarding Guacamaya Spanish School
I have been reading about the Guacamaya Spanish School and Ixbalanque Spanish School and have heard that they are very similar but I was wondering two things. One, what are Guacamaya's rates and when they mention all the activities over the weekend, horse back riding, bird park, coffee tour, etc. do going on those activities cost extra? Or is it inculded in the payment?
Thanks

Panama - scuba
Looking to visit Panama for one week around the end of February. Would like to spend a lot of time scuba diving. In doing some research, it seems that a lot of the better dive-beach locations are in fairly secluded areas/islands. It looks like there are some places to dive out of Panma City, but I wasn't sure the relative quality of the diving. The island dive areas sound great, but I'd like to be somewhere with a little nightlife as well. I don't require world class clubs, just somewhere to be when it gets dark.

Buying Property in Leon close to the Beach - Coastal Law Issues?
Hello Everyone,
My boyfriend and I are thinking of buying property in Nicaragua especially the areas of Las Peñitas/ Poneloya in Leon and we have been a bit confused with the coastal law issues we've been reading about. Can anyone explain this a little... how many meters from high tide on are permitted to be used for construction?
Is the government really expropriating lands around the area? How safe is it to buy property in nicaragua? Do we have to be super concerned abou it being taken from us in the future?
Responses from people on the ground greatly appreciated!

Monteverde vrs Reserva Santa Elena?
Hi, my family of four (kids 5 and 3) are wanting to see either Monteverde or Reserva Santa Elena. We will have 2 days in the area. We like to hike, can pass on the zip line, but would like to do a canopy walk on one of those elevated walkways. I would really appreciate any advice on which of these places we should go. Thanks in advance.
