budgeting
Hey my wife and I are doing some budgeting for a trip to central america. We plan on doing a month. Belize, Guatemala. and Honduras. Anyone got a rough estimate on how much we can get by for a daily budget? Were aiming for under 50$ usd a day. Is that too much? Too little? Plan on roughing it. Cheaper the better.

Transportation to and around San Ignacio
We will be arriving in Belize City on a Monday late afternoon and want to make our way to San Ignacio Monday night. In San Ignacio we would like to do a day tour of tubing/kayaking in some caves and see some ruins(local, not Tikal) on the day after that. Tours seem a bit pricey, would it be better to rent a car and do these things on our own? (American couple)
Side note: will be in Belize for Belize's Independence Day. Where is the place to be??

Where to stay in Belize for 3 days - options listed
So,
I'm trying to make a late booking for my honeymoon in Belize, going to be there July 4-7. Unfortunately some of the best hotels are not available. Looking for input into my current options ( in order of current preference) and recommendations of places which i haven't considered:
El Secreto - San Pedro
Turtle Inn - Placencia
St. George's Caye Resort
Singing Sands inn - Placencia
What we are looking for in order of importance:
Trips- snorkeling preferably at the blue hole and also do cave tubing. ( I believe these trips are easier to do the further north you are)
Beach
Food
Relaxation
accessible community where we can eat out one night..
Looking for a good value place but we have a decent budget up to $400 US / night, but i don't want to be somewhere where i am scared to order a drink because they are so expensive.
FYI:
these places are fully booked:

Cave exploration
We are going to Belize in July and are interested in doing a cave tube exploration in the Caves River Branch. I am quite overweight and am worried it may be too difficult. Has anyone done this and do you have any thoughts?
Thanks!

Moving to Belize
Hi, I was hoping someone could give me answers and help me out. I'm 18 years old and I'm planning on moving to Belize with my boyfriend and my parents. I'm concerned about the culture differences. I'm an American from California and my Boyfriend is English. I was wondering how different the culture is and how hard it would be for a young adult to adjust to the different culture. I'm not as concerned for myself as I have moved quite a bit. I've lived in Italy the US and now the UK. My boyfriend has never moved but has traveled around being exposed to different ways of life. He is a musician and is into metal. He is concerned that many of the things he likes will not be available for him in Belize. We both know that Belize will not be anything like the US and UK as far as shopping big cities ect. Any information would be extremely helpful. I just would like to have a feel for the cultur... more »

Advice for 1-week trip
Hi all,
My girlfriend and I are (both mid-30s) heading to Belize for a week in late June. We're both fairly mellow travelers looking for that elusive balance of a little off the beaten, beautiful but not deluged by obnoxious tourists, and relatively reasonably priced. A tall order, I realize.
We're thinking of heading to Caye Caulker for a few nights, then going inland to the jungle for a night or two, and possibly splurging the last few nights and staying at a fancier resort like Tranquility Bay in Ambergris.
If anyone has itinerary and/or lodging advice, I'd love to hear it. Thanks very much.
Matthew

waiting out the rainy season in Caye Caulker?
Hi, I am living in San Pedro in Guatemala, before continuing my travels more south I thought it to be best to wait out the rainy season somewhere warm but . My suggestions thus far have been Oxaca Mexico or Caye Caulker. I wanted to know if its going to be rainy there for the next few months and if its worth for me to travel up there to wait out the rainy season. Lastly, would it be as cheap as living here in San Pedro (50q/night).
Thank you

driving to belize
Hello all,
My two friends and I are driving from Mexico to Belize and continuing on to Guatemala. The main purpose of belize is to dive the blue hole (only one of us is a diver the other 2 will just snorkel or something). Would anyone recomend whether we should park and pay to stay in Belize city or somewhere else? I haven't heard great things about BC. I have heard good stuff about Caye Caulker, but I can't figure out how we would get the car there. Our car has US plates, so I don't know if just leaving it in BC and heading out to the islands is a good idea. Any help? Thx a ton

Chetumal-CC port /departure fees update
Am currently in CC and as I got plenty of help regarding the planning of my trip form Misterbee and others decided to give an update regarding port /departure fees when leaving Chetumal for CC by boat.
Currently U have to pay a port fee of 5 us and a departure fee of 295 MX peso's ,in both cases a receipt was provided and whether this is legal or not, fact is,if u do not pay,u not get onboard....they checked everybody's receipts twice before boarding.
Now my spanish is limited but the guy at customs tried to explain me everything pretty good and even showed me a copy from a traveller with the layout of his airline ticket with all taxes explained like 9/11 tax, tourist tax ,departure tax.....not sure how to get this but ONLY if u can provide this u do not have to pay the 295 MX dep tax.
He also told me coming back again u have to pay the port tax in Belize(was confirmed here) ,exit ta...

Caye Caulker to Placencia
Fellow Travelers,
I'm going to be on Caye Caulker for a few days at the end of November and then off to Placencia. Has anybody taken the Ragamuffin's sailing trip from CC to Placencia? I'm considering this as a way to get to Placencia and am interested in what the experience was like. I believe they are now using a catamaran for the trip but I am also concerned as to how many people they put on the boat.
Thanks for comments and suggestions.
Dave
