Americas - Canada

I am going to Canada for 3 weeks and I am looking for information for the following:
1 I am going to be birdwatcher in the Pinery Provinical Park for 3 days and I was wondering where the best sites to look at in the Park and surrounding area?
2 Is there any cheap motels in the area, about $60-80. Most of the ones I have looked up on the internet are a bit pricey i.e Grand Bend
Thank you for any help
VCBW is a nine-day celebration of local and international artisan beer. Consisting of signature events, independently-organized satellite events, and weekly specials hosted in various venues across Metro Vancouver, VCBW draws a large and diverse demographic of both local and international visitors.
This year's festival runs from May 18-26, 2012. Details will be available on the VCBW Web site.
I am moving to Canada next June. Can anybody out there advise on which city has a greater potential for ESL teacher in Canada.
P. S. I have a master's degree in teaching English for speakers of other languages (TESOL).
I want to fly from Vancouver to Kelowna or Kamloops?
Is it only Westjet that fly those routes?
I know there are countless buses and shuttles offering services from vancouver but I was wondering if anyone would be driving up to whistler the first weekend of feburary (5th) and fancied giving a British student a lift at the same time. I would of course to more than happy to chip in for petrol and snacks. I'm flying into vancouver on 30th then heading up that weekend to join a friend who is currently doing a season and thought a roadtrip would be more fun than a coach, let me know if anyone is keen ?

I'm flying from London to Vancouver, BC on the 24/3 returning on 8/4. I'm a big outdoor person and I am really keen to squeeze a couple of short hikes / treks and whale watching in Vancouver island, skiing at Whistler, Banff and of course.. seeing Vancouver.
My questions are:
- Would Vancouver Island, Whistler and Banff be too much to cover in 15 days?
- Which are the best trail in western part of Vancouver Island, Whistler and Banff?
- What are my chance of spotting the orcas at the west coast of the island late march?
- Any recommendation for cheap places to stay in the above places (apart from Vancouver city)
I would like to undertake a train journey from Edmonton,AB to Toronto,ON next week, i.e. end of January 2012.
I'm on a budget travel and would like some info on this train route.
I plan to travel ECONOMY CLASS as i cannot afford anything better now...lol
1) How comfortable are the seats and the coach facilities (toilets, etc) for this 03 nights, 02 days journey to Toronto.
2) It says, meals not included in the economy class ticket.
So, can i still buy my choice of dinners & breakfasts in the dining car? OR is the facility in the dining car exclusive for sleeper class
3) What is the quality of meals on-board; are there any good take-away food options @ VIA stations in Saskatoon, Winnipeg, etc.
4) How cold is it inside the coaches during nights? Just to let you know, its freezing out here in Edmonton now with temp. reading -32C
5) Is th... more »
Hello all. I'm hoping to attend a conference in Detroit later this year (hosted downtown at the COBO Center). I'm drawing a blank on some cheaper accommodation options but could theoretically stay in Windsor.
I used to live in Canada, and always remembered that my British passport complicated matters when on board trains or buses entering the USA. If I was to fly into Detroit, and then use the Tunnel Bus to "commute" back and forth between the two cities every morning and evening for about five days, would I likely encounter many problems?
I would expect to have a visa waiver for the USA, and already have Homeland Security pre-clearance. With these documents in order, is it a complication to exit and re-enter the States every evening/morning? Will both sets of customs take pleasure in filling up a few pages with twice daily stamps?

Have read several similar threads on the topic, but my circumstances are slightly different: I have 2 days to spend in the Rockies, on my way to Vancouver from either Calgary or Edmonton in late April. Won't be driving. I've worked out my options to be either:
A) From Calgary, bus to Banff, spend a night. Next day, take the Brewster coach to Jasper, spend a second night there.
B) From Edmonton, bus to Jasper and spend two nights there.
Either way, train to Vancouver from Jasper at noon on the second day.
I'm rather keen on route A) as I'll get to see both Banff and Jasper. Problem is, my transport arrangement works out so that I would only arrive in Banff from Calgary at night (Day 0), and therefore would only really have the next morning to spend there before the Brewster coach at noon (Day 1). Will only arrive in Jasper around 6-ish, therefore same case for Jasper... more »
I'm a Kiwi (New Zealander) in Montréal, here on a Working Holiday. I still have 8 months left before my visa expires (I've been here for four months already). Any suggestions as to how I can extend my stay here? I love Montreal and want to stay for another year and maybe consider applying for permanent residency after that. I'm currently working as a waitress and doing an advanced French course.
It looks like I can't extend my Working Holiday visa but it also seems I can only apply for another working visa if I've been working for 12 out of the last 24 months here in Quebec in a skilled capacity. I am pretty fluent in French and have an MA, just haven't been able to find 'skilled work' at this stage. Any advice/tips would be much appreciated!
Thought I would ask quickly here.
I am flying to Australia next week and I got a call from an agent at www.flightnetwork.com who I booked through telling me my flight from YYC - LAX had been cancelled.
The flight was due to leave YYC at 7 PM and have me in LAX about 9 for my flight to Australia with Qantas at 11.30 PM.
I have been given the option of getting the earlier flight with AC which will get me in at 1.30 PM.
There are a couple of issues here. Firstly my nice 2 and a bit hour connection in LAX is now a nightmareish 10 hour connection. If you have spent more than a couple of hours in LAX you will know what I mean. Secondly I was meant to be working a half day on the day I leave. As I live in Banff I will have to forfeit the pay for that half day plus I will now have to be on the airport shuttle very early.
We selected this flight as this is the quickest way ... more »
I have a master's degree TESOL, teaching English for speakers of other languages. I wonder if I am eligible to do a PHD degree in law in Canadian schools.
P. S. my degree is from an American school.
Expert help needed planning this drive. The facts:
1. Leaving Toronto either evening of March 8, or very early morning March 9
2. Travelling with 3 adults, and 4 children ages 6-10 including a special needs 6 year old,
3. Will need to stop every 2 hours to change drivers, kids’ toilet stops and special needs requirements
4. Can arrive Kissimmee either Saturday March 10 or Sunday 11
5. Must be back in Toronto by Monday March 19 evening
6. The planned route is through Buffalo then I-79 and I-77
Is the Buffalo route the best choice?
Obviously this trip cannot be done as a one continuous drive, so we need suggestions for locations to stay overnight, if possible in low rise kid friendly accommodations where the kids can play outside.
Also as we need to stop every 2 hours are there any places to visit for approx 45 minutes so the kids can get a break and blow of... more »
I am trying to decided whether to go over to Canada for a Working Holiday for either Summer or Winter - I am going through a working holiday company where my job etc. is secured before I leave Aus.
If I do Summer I will be in Banff - has anyone done a working holiday in Banff during the SUMMER? What is it like? Are there heaps of people to make friends with? Good Nightlife?
If I do Winter I will most likely do one of the big ski resorts i.e. Whistler or Big White.
Firstly - I want to hear from people who have lived/worked in Banff and what it is like -I am struggling to find ANYONE who has gone in summer!!
Secondly - with winter - I am from Sunny Nth QLD - will I survive? Lol! and I have never really skiied/boarded before - are alot of people first timers when they go there? I dont think I will be particularly that good either...is there other things to do in... more »
Unfortunately I have never been to Canada but I really want to go! From what I've researched Vancouver and Quebec City seem to be the nicest to me, after them I think Toronto, Montreal and Ottawa would follow. Anyway what are your favourite Canadian cities and why?
