Alice-Uluru-Kata Tjuta in early Sept 2012 - itinerary and travelmates
Hi There,
Im planning to travel from Alice to Uluru and Kata Tjuta (if I have the time).
I leave Alice for Uluru on the 4th of September and fly out from Yulara on the 8th of September 2012.
Can someone suggest what I might be able to achieve in this time - perhaps just Uluru or perhaps Ulura and Kata Tjuta??? I guess Kings Canyon is out of the question?
I'm on a bit of a budget but not shoe string.
Can anyone suggest transport, accomodation and itinerary?
I'm also looking for travel mates to share the costs.
I might consider hiring a car if I can find people to share with. Does anyone know if you can hire a car in Alice and drop it off at Uluru (Yulara)?? And how much would car hire cost including petrol?
What is the alternative to car hire? What are the tours like and what are the costs?
I won't have a tent so can't camp.
I like independent travelling...

Road Trip: Cairns to Alice Springs
My girlfriend and I are planning a November road trip between Cairns and Alice Springs. We can't seem to find any information about the quality of the roads, or general tips or suggestions for this route. Any advice or wisdom from the masses would be most helpful. We're not necessarily looking for a lot of recreational opportunities along the way. Mostly, it's a cheaper way for us to get to Uluru from the coast, and we expect to not being doing much but driving the whole time between the two cities.
We'll have a subaru type vehicle and are hoping to tent camp off the highway as much as possible. Is this stretch one of those notorious kangaroo/camel roadhazard zones?
Finally, what are the temps like in central Australia in mid-November? I'm expecting some pretty intense heat along the way.
Cheers!

Greymouth Skydiving
I've got two days in Greymouth in September due to the bus timetable. I had hoped to do another skydive whilst in NZ and thought i'd get it done in Greymouth as there may not be too much to do there - Does anyone have any recommended operators there or is this left to better places?

Purchasing AUD Travellers Cheques
Hi all..........
I am trying to track down somewhere to purchase AUD travellers cheques.
I have looked at the websites of Austpost, Bankwest, NAB, Commonwealth, Westpac but to purchase online, none of them offer AUD travellers cheques. ANZ seems to be the only institution to offer them and me not being an ANZ customer I can only buy a maximum of AUD1000 over the counter.
Seems to be the banks and American Express have it sewn up and are reluctant to sell AUD T/Cs. Can't work it out.
Has anyone been able to buy AUD travellers cheques recently and, if so WHERE?????
Thanks guys
Chris

Melbourne to SE Queensland - road/camping trip
G'day
My boyfriend and I are planning a month long road trip from our home town of Melbourne to south-east Queensland and back again, from Feb-March 2013. After travelling alot overseas, very much looking forward to exploring more of our own country.
We'll have our camping gear and mountain bikes (in our 2-wheel drive), and hoping for many outdoor adventures - through the alps, along the coast and anywhere else. While it is still many months away, I'm excited to hear some recommendations of places to visit. Looking for ideas on great camping spots, National Parks, day hikes, mountain biking trails, and other adventures (such as canyoning in the Blue Mountains).
Many thanks
:-)

I am travelling to NZ in September for 5 weeks and I have been looking at getting bus pass to do both islands.

Booking New Year and January
Hi,
Myself and my new husband will be spending four weeks of our honeymoon travelling both islands, arriving in Christchurch on 30th December. From there we're planning on heading to Wanaka to see the New Year in (unless anyone has any better ideas - looking for some great scenery where the atmosphere will be good but not too busy - Queenstown isn't really for us).
I've been reading some conflicting advice on how far in advance I'm going to have to book things and was wondering if anyone can help out please. We'll be hiring a car and buying camping equipment, and looking to stay at DOC camping sites. We will also be doing a lot of activities, eg skydiving, whale watching at Kaikouro, heli-hiking at Franz Josef, canoeing around Abel Tasman, the caves at Waitomo, long walks staying in back-country huts and a surf school.
Any advice on how soon I should be booking both campsi...

Torres Strait Islands - Accommodations and...
Are there possibilities for budget accommodations on Horn Island, Thursday Island, or others? (Do local people rent out rooms in their homes?)
-
Here in Cairns, there is info on overland tours, QuantasLink flights, and the once-a-week (twice?) freighter. All seem to be pretty expensive -- at least at this time of year, mid-July. Does anybody know any ways to lessen transportation costs?

Any other information of interest will be welcome. Thanks.
