extensions to visas for seasonal work, studying in Australia, extending your stay, Australian citizenship, where to find fruit picking/harvesting jobs (a link from the Working Holiday Makers page) can be found
at this website Tip - use the menus along the top. It's all quite straight forward and user friendly.
link for NZ WHV
NB This is NOT the best place to ask questions : it is rarely visited by people who can provide answers. If, after reading the links provided in this thread, you still have questions, you are best off making a fresh outside post. *If you've got questions about other visas please specify the passport you'll be travelling on and whic...

THE WORD Australia is getting ready to launch a new website, and a travel blog is a new feature we are adding. We're always looking for content, so if you have any good posts on Australia we would be happy to add them.
We're are looking for someone to backpack up the East Coast of Australia and share their experience using social media along the way. Know anyone interested in a job like this? It's a pretty sweet deal with transportation, accommodation, and some activities paid for. Check out our facebook page for more details: http://www.facebook.com/wordaustralia.
Let us know if you have any questions, comments, or suggestions about the trip.
Thanks!

HI!
I am headed to New Zealand Mid January till mid February.....
I have never been to NZ before and am looking for some people to possibly
hook up with along the way. I heard about Camper Van rentals so I am interested
in finding someone/several people to share that with. Also, I'm thinking about doing
some tramping and maybe a bike tour.... Disclaimer I am not a "hardcore"
outdoorist. I do love hiking, camping, and biking (I own a cruiser) and spending
time outdoors but am not the most experienced or trained for difficult trails.
I usually stick to the more leisurely activities. :)
If anyone is interested or has suggested for a single traveler I would love to hear
from you!
Many thanks.
I can also be contacted at gwen.shoemaker@gmail.com

VirginBlue had a drama at Melbourne's Tullamarine Airport yesterday.
Some 6,300 passengers were affected by the cancellation of 50 Virgin flights ... hundreds had to be put up in the city's hotels, and many more just stayed overnight in the terminal. All because a cable was damaged, crippling the electronic check-in system.
Now I may be old-fashioned, but I would have thought that Item No1 in the VirginBlue Risk Management Plan (okay ... No2 - after the loss of an aircraft) - would be a back-up manual or semi-automated check-in system if the main network went down. Would it be too hard to have a streamlined check-in procedure - with boarding passes coming from a stand-alone printer say - or even hand-writing them? Or even allowing an e-ticket print-out to substitute for a normal boarding pass? Apparently not possible.
This is the big worry in our future (post-carbon?) world -...

Here is one for you guys that love to track down the best airfares - a friend has to get back to AKL from LON asap, and will need to be there for a week to a fortnight. Best price I can find is £1504 on emirates.com to go from LGW to DXB to MEL to AKL.
If anyone can come up with any other options then it would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers
Jamie

Hi Everyone
This is no doubt a really basic question and I'm fairly sure I know what's coming as regards answers! Am currently travelling in India/SE Asia but would love to continue my travels in Australia around April time. However, I anticipate that by then the money will have run out and I don't have a working visa. Plus I'm getting on a bit in working terms! I do have a bit of obscure IT experience and lots of working experience, qualifications (WSET) and knowledge of wine and the wine industry but can this be turned into anything tangible without the relevant paperwork?
Any thoughts or suggestions would be most welcome.
Thanks guys.
Carl

I am going to be in Auckland for the first week of my travels and before my academic exchange with Victoria University in Wellington. I am trying to find some legitimate places to stay. I am looking for an apartment style place and have found the following:
YWCA - they are booked and cannot take me right now
Columbia Student Apartments
Empire Student Rentals
Princeton Student Apartments
Scholar Hotel & Apartments
Scholar Backpackers
Some of these seem to be connected with each other. I am wondering if anyone has had any experiences with any of them or if you have heard anything about them.
Thanks in advance!

hello i am an american citizen about to apply for a new zealand working holiday visa but am confused about a couple things as far as requirements go:
1) NZ immigration states that i must have full medical and comprehensive hospitalization insurance for the duration of the visa. i don't really understand what they mean by 'full' and 'comprehensive' and i'm wondering if regular travel insurance, i.e. world nomads is considered adequate. world nomads is what i normally use but you can only buy it in 6 month increments. is it really necessary to show 12 months insurance upon arrival at immigration? that seems silly since i don't even think i'll be there the full 12 months. any input on this, especially from whv holders would be greatly appreciated. recommendations on cheap insurance that would fulfill the requirements?
2) they also state that i must have proof of onward flight to ...

Apparently, the proposed internet filter has now been tested and given the green light. More info here as well.
Does anyone agree with the proposal? Have my kids, but don't mess with my internet!!! Even Save the Children (the group most at risk) disagree with the filter.

Anyone who has travelled in the outback will know just how dangerous animals are on the road, particularly kangaroos.
I was told that in Broken Hill, hire car companies will not cover accidents caused by acts of god (eg: hitting a kangaroo).
Can someone confirm this? Has anyone written off a $30,000+ hire car and then had to pay every last cent for a new vehicle? if not, what happens in this scenario?
All I can say, that if this is the case, hiring a car in the outback is a VERY risky proposition.

G'day,
what would happen, do you think, if one bought a packaged holiday to say, oh, Singapore, and then didn't bother returning on after the holiday?
You know, one of those 4 day or 7 day things with hotel and other stuff thrown in?
