extensions to visas for seasonal work, studying in Australia, extending your stay, Australian citizenship, where to find fruit picking/harvesting jobs (a link from the Working Holiday Makers page) can be found
at this website Tip - use the menus along the top. It's all quite straight forward and user friendly.

NB This is NOT the best place to ask questions : it is rarely visited by people who can provide answers. If, after reading the links provided in this thread, you still have questions, you are best off making a fresh outside post. *If you've got questions about other visas please specify the passport you'll be travelling on and whic...

Hi all,
Yet another question from me, a guy making it very obvious this is this first trip to the Antipodes.
My plan is do Aus and NZ over the course of 5 months, from Feb to June. I wish to spend about 7 weeks in NZ starting in Auckland and finishing in Christchurch. For Australia, my plan is to fly into Perth and spent 3 weeks around SW WA, then onto Alice for a few days, seeing Uluru and then fly to Melbourne and spend about 8 weeks making my way from Mel to Cairns.
My original plan was to cover Aus first, then NZ, so arriving Aus in Feb, leaving early-May, then NZ until mid-June. Now I'm thinking maybe I should do the other way, ie NZ Feb/March, then WA/ NT in April and Melbourne to Cairns in May/June. I think would ensure better weather for my trip.
Feedback is appreciated...
Thanks,
John

Hello everybody!
We're planning to travel three weeks in Western Australia (starting and ending in Perth) and have rented a campervan. We'll be there the first three weeks of January, in peak season. Even though I guess we can just camp anywhere, we still would like to camp on campsites every once in a while, to have showers, toilets, etc.
Do we have to book campsites in advance? Or can we just pop up and usually find space available for a campervan? Or is it already too late anyways and campsites are fully booked in January?
Does anybody know a good webpage with campsite addresses?
And any suggestions for a three week itineary?

Hi there!
This January I have one month with my (Dutch) family in Australia. Everything's planned (more or less..) except for one week in which my sister and my will travel somewhere together. We have the luxurious problem of too many ideas/options.
Our only requirements are that it should be reachable from Adelaide and have some sort of kayak opportunity. We're pretty easy going, but I am a little overwhelmed with the choices. I am not fooling myself thinking we can find some cheap place at that time of the year, but if anyone has any suggestions they will be greatly appreciated.
We are considering Noosa or Byron Bay - opinions on that are welcome too!
Many thanks in advance!

My name is Johan and I'm a Swedish guy in the age of 19. I have spent about one and a half month in the Auckland region working and sorting out primary business.
After X-mas I'll begin traveling round both islands and explore the best of NZ the backpacker way. I have bought a car (Nissan Sentra), I a would very much like to share the ride with somebody keen on a adventure.
I will probably travel around for about 2 months and then try to find a job in the Nelson region.
My agenda will be very flexible and I'm open for suggestions on the intinerary.
If you are interested, post a reply!

... sent their camera car down our street this morning.
Pretty dodgy too - looked something like a 1996 Camry Station Wagon - with a bit of work needed on the body. I guess the Googlish contractors must do it on the cheap. The camera device was interesting - sort of like one of those loudspeakers you see on a pole - about a metre or so higher than the car roof.
I was standing at the front gate as they went slowly by - maybe I'll be digitally immortalised!

Hi there,
I'm off to Melbourne in a couple of weeks. I was planning to rent a car to drive myself to the Great Ocean Road, stop to see the sights, spend a night then head back to Melbourne. I'm trying to do this just after Xmas day. I've been searching for accommodation on Appolo Bay but it's heavily booked - the only things available don't seem to take one night only reservations. Any suggestions? I figured I should drive up to Appolo Bay or Port Campbell, spend the night then see the 12 Apostles and drive back at a slow pace the next day. Are there smaller towns in between them? Is it safe to assume there would be motels or things like that off the highway or would I be out of luck with no place to sleep? We normally stay in backpackers, but hotels, motels, anything but expensive "cottages" would do. Korne seems to be at a similar situation and I would rather drive further in the f...

Hey everyone,
I have 5 days in Melbourne and would like to rent a car for one of the days to visit some wineries in the Yarra Valley and see the Penguin parade at dusk. Is this feasible? At what time would it be suggested leaving Melbourne, to maybe visit two wineries then head into PI? Is it difficult to drive to these places? Is a car ferry involved? Costly?
Thanks a lot :)

Just got back from 5 weeks in Australia. What and incredible experience. Just wanted to give a thank you to all the Aussies. You are the most open, inviting and genuine people we have met.
Cheers

I have 3 months off work February through April 2010, and would appreciate your suggestions of the best places to visit during these months.
Looking for locations in any or all of the following: Australia, New Zealand, Pacific, Asia, Middle East, Caribbean or Central America.
Looking for warm to hot weather (daytime over 24C or over 75F), not the rainy season, friendly people, interesting culture, natural beauty (such as flowers, trees, or mountains), and ocean front with sandy beaches and snorkeling nearby. I also need reliable internet access at least twice a week.
Please say whether good snorkeling is available in the area. If weather differences, please say which of these months have the best weather.
Please also say your opinion about whether traveling in that country or area after paying for international airfare is very expensive, moderate, or inexpensive BY WORL...

Hired a campervan with a friend who is sick and heading home. Looking for people to tour with that want to help with costs. There is a Rainbow Gathering on the west coast and a Convergence Festival near Christchurch. Anyone interested?

Went to vote today in federal seat of Higgins and the Liberals had taken up 99% of available fence space surroundig entry to polling booth, with their photos of their candidate. I suggested that although it was democratic to do so it did look greedy, hardly caring and sharing. Wondered if this overkill was a measure of their insecurity or confidence. Anyone else got a tale to tell today? Should go up and ask those handing out literature what their feedback was. Higgins is Peter Costello's old seat so it is always a shoe in. JoyV

Well arrived Cooktown. Small place. Lot of nice old relics around .Not much for the tourist other than taking some of the tours available. The fishing seems excellent however. German guy at hostel took a day fishing charter and caught some mackeral. Big ones. Sold them localy. Bus ride up from Cairns seems like going uphill forever. Went inland up and will go coast road back.
