Hi everyone,
Putting together an itinerary for a few weeks in WA. Plan to spend maybe 2 full days in Perth, one in Freo, maybe go to Rottnest for a day. Then maybe overnight for the Pinnicles. Was then thinking of heading down to Margaret River, then towards Tall Tree Country, before heading back to Perth to fly out. I guess I'll head back via Hyden to see Wave Rock, but my question is is it worth heading inland for a few days to Kalgoorlie? Part of me is quite keen to see an old gold mining town (tIn shed brothels and all!), plus I've heard Lake Ballard is pretty cool. So it is worth hanging around a few extra days? Or should I just move on?
Thanks,
J
My husband and I are Canadians and have 14 days to spend on South Island as an interruption to our visit with our daughter in Sydney. We plan to rent a car in Christchurch and make some kind of loop. We don't want to spend all our time driving so we're trying to plan a loop that enables us to see some of the beautiful scenery, do some walks, visit some cafes, etc. and would like to try and stay about 3 nights or so at each stop rather than be on the road every day. We definitely want to get to Milford Sound so we're planning on staying in Te Anau for 3 or 4 days. Other than that, we're not sure how to make this loop. Our dilemma is whether to head to the far south, possibly taking in Stewart Island(can this be a day trip?), or rather not go so far south but then have the time to take in either Mount Cook or Franz Josef. Wanaka and Lake Tekapo sound very nice. Our preference is ... more »

Can anyone recommend a good place for new years eve in or arounf ChCh? It's my hometown but I haven't lived there in 10years. Looking for a laid back 20's-40's age crowd. Music, bubbly etc!

Hi Guys
We are coming to Oz from Zurich in April. I really dont know where to start. We decided that we want to see the east coast, we are both beach people and really wanna see Whitsundays.
My question is, where should we fly from and to? Especially to keep the prices down.
We would like to Sydney but starting to think that is a little too optimistic in three weeks time.
What do you think about the east coast? What are your must sees? Do we have time for Great barrier reef AND Sydney?
Thanks for your answers!
Fi and Rob

Carer's Duty took me to the Bachelor State for three days and three nights.
So here are some tidbits and brief impressions:
• Adelaide looks so dry, it’s a shock to the system – it makes Sydney & Melbourne look lush!
• Nature strips mimic the Gobi Desert; and trees do not proliferate – they grow begrudgingly
• Rundle Street is a grown-up dining precinct
• Rundle Mall was busy and full of Christmas mayhem
• Hindley Street hasn’t changed in 25 years – still tacky
• Botanic Gardens and the River Torrens precinct are worthy indeed
• Port Adelaide is not Williamstown nor Fremantle, sadly
• The Semaphore Street Fare today (Sunday) was impressive – bogan central
• Adelaide is still white, anglo, and ageing – compared to the bigger cities
• Central Markets in Gouger Street are still very very good
• The O-Bahn bus network to TeaTree Plaza is fabulous – Daycat is right!
• The...

I am arriving in Australia mid- Dec and leave mid-feb. I fly into Perth and out of Sydney and am therefore hoping to see as much of the country as possible. I would like to see everything, obviously this is completely improbable. Therefore I was wondering if anyone had any advice/suggestions/ideas about the best places to see and the highlights I should take in. And also any suggestions for getting around. I was thinking of buying a car but dont think I have long enough in Oz also the train was another option.
Any suggestions/help would be greatly appreciated. I can extend my trip to some extent but not that much!
Thanks
Jenks

Hi all,
Just wondering if anyone can tell me how I can get to St Helena Island (the old convict one), do I need to have a boat, or hire a 4WD, is there a ferry that goes there, or do I have to book a tour?
Any advice appreciated.
Cheers.

G'day fellow travellers!
I'm coming over to NZ in Januray, spending 20 days drivng on the South Island with a friend, then flying into Wellington and busing around for 9 days (I can add a few days if need be). Ultimately I'm flying over to Samoa from Auckland and must be back in Brisbane on 13th February. I'm still not quite sure how long I want to stay in Samoa, but if 9 days ain't remotely enough to see cool things, I can stretch it a bit.
I'm more into sight-seeing and tramping. Don't really care about nightlife in bigger cities. I'd also like to see some LOTR sites. There's a tour in Mt Ruapehu that seems to offer a lot, and the whole region of Taupo and the volcanoes seems pretty cool. I have started planning my trip, but I'm still undecided, so any help would be useful.
20 (January) arrive in Wellington in the morning and visit the town.
21 LOTR tour, if it's any good (15...

I did a stop over from NZ to Japan and was put via transit where they had one cafe and one news agent.
I had a bacon egg muffin and a flat white for $10AU.
On the way back I had a foccascia toasted bread and a coke for $13AU.
Are these standard for australian airports?

This just in...hilarious.
WE hope erstwhile Man of Steel John Howard wasn't too put out by the words of Britain's former ambassador to the US, Christopher Meyer. Giving evidence to Britain's inquiry into the Iraq war, Meyer had this to say of the personal relationship between his former boss Tony Blair and George W. Bush: "They met at various meetings from time to time. It was Condoleezza Rice that told me that the president said he felt the only human being he could talk to was Tony; the rest (other world leaders) were creatures from outer space."
