extensions to visas for seasonal work, studying in Australia, extending your stay, Australian citizenship, where to find fruit picking/harvesting jobs (a link from the Working Holiday Makers page) can be found
at this website Tip - use the menus along the top. It's all quite straight forward and user friendly.

NB This is NOT the best place to ask questions : it is rarely visited by people who can provide answers. If, after reading the links provided in this thread, you still have questions, you are best off making a fresh outside post. *If you've got questions about other visas please specify the passport you'll be travelling on and whic...

Hello!
Me & my boyfriend are planning to fly to Australia in a week or 2 (early- mid December) most likely into Darwin, and are looking to buy a vehicle that we can travel around the country in. We want to use it to mainly to drive and to sleep in but if it had a little fridge or stove etc that would be awesome. Does anyone have any recommendations or tips on how to go about doing this? Or even better, does anyone have a vehicle like this for sale?!
A few more questions off the top of my head:
How much is gas per litre?
Are there strict rules about parking for the night?
Is food expensive?
What about showers?
Car insurance / international drivers license? (we're from Canada)
We're coming from ho chi minh city, Vietnam and it looks like Darwin is the cheapest city to fly into but if anyone has any other ideas i'd love to hear them!
Thanks...

Hi Guys,
Does anyone know of any Car Rental Companies at Christchurch Airport that do rentals to driver's under 21. Have 2 friends from Oz going over in Feb 2010 and they are 18 and 19yrs old. They are very mature and responsible guys and want to travel down to Queenstown.

I have finally booked my flight to Auckland in March next year. I checked a number of car hire sites and found that Argus Car Hire (apparently based in the UK) was by far the cheapest. I gather that it is what is called a consolidator (?). Has anyone had any experience with this company? I don't want to book a car and find that it is very old and falling to bits.

Im about to book a PADI dive course in or around Sydney - does anyone have some tips about the best spots around Sydney to dive? Although we're only doing a course - we'd still like to dive in a good spot...
I'm also trying to decide on an operator. Does anyone have any suggestions re: the best dive schools to go with??
Finally - we're fine to dive throughout South America and Africa with a PADI qualification, yeah?
Cheers in advance!

My husband and I are arriving in Christchurch and making our way to Auckland, we have a month to do this from beginning of January 2010. We are hoping to get a camper to travel around, looking at the cost of them on web sites they seem to vary quite alot in price. Would be interested in some helpful tips on which type of camper is best for the Country.
Camp site tips, accessability for vans, major points of interest and any other information for relatively inexperienced travellers would be much appreciated.
Thank you

Hello All:
Greetings. I have searched the forum without success, so I am now posting a query. I plan to travel to Australia primarily for the train rides:
Perth - Sydney (Indian Pacific)
Sydney-Brisbane (XPT)
Brisbane-Cairns (Tilt)
Darwin-Adelaide (Ghan)
Adelaide-Melbourne
During these train rides, I am not sure that there will be avalability of cell phone coverage, or of broadband internet. I will appreciate hearing from people who have been on these trips regarding:
a. Cell-phone (pre-paid) options that are best for coverage (great if a single provider covers all, but otherwise suggestions for the best two or three)
b. Will it be possible to get wireless broadband via modem on these trips? If not is there a provider that will service most of them or even the cities? My guess is Sydney_Brisbane_Cairns will not be a problem, but for the vast open stretches for the Gha...

I'll be driving south from Caloundra sometime in the next week or two and would appreciate advice from those with local knowledge.
Pacific Highway or New England? I'm not interested in sightseeing, know both roads rather well but am looking for the fastest and easiest route. New England seems best to me - am I correct?

Hey!
I'm travelling around Oz at the moment mainly the East coast.
I'm looking for anyone who is doing the same. I'm 24, from the UK and a gay male. Wondering if there are any other GAY or GAY friendly people doing the same.
Here in Oz until Feb 21st and wanting to spend some time doing some things. I'm with friends from the UK at the moment but have 6 weeks after new year in Sydney.
Be good to meet others and do some travelling.
Cheers

the cold doesn't bother me, but just wanting to know if its still scenic during winter months. i'm not interested in yellow grass covered hills.
also, we're foodies, so really want to enjoy local fare as much as possible (and wine/beer). we will rent a car/SUV once we get there and will spend a week.
it will be my wife and i, and our two kids (both under 2.5 years) and we are not afraid of driving to see as much as possible.
1) is winter still nice in tas?
2) what are the things we should see in tas while there during winter months?
3) any specific cities we should go to for its culinary surprises?
4) what are some things which appear in the "things you should do as a tourist in tas" list which we should actually not bother doing?
thanks in advance.

Hi fellow nomads,
a friend an i are heading to 'Devonport' on xmas night to stay from Sydney. We have all tickets booked. We just tried to book tickets for the 'park entry' and have been told that it is fully booked!
We wanted to start the trek on the 26th........We have managed to obtain 'park entry' tickets which start on the 23rd (two days earlier).
Any ideas on what we do as we can't change or travel plans.....
Surely there isn't 'turnstiles' heading into and out of the park? Also the start being 83kms from Devonport is there a 'checkpoint' etc?
We have no choice but to do the trek.....Any ideas or info would help us..
Thanks
Matt

Hi all,
I am planning a drive/camping trip from the Gold Coast to Townsville. I would really love to explore the Currawinya Nat Park. The info I have found says 4wd recommended for the trip in and 4wd only for most roads when you are there. I have a forester and wondered if that would be sufficient or if it is truly 4wd country? I would be travelling soon so don't think it has rained there in a while.
Any advice much appreciated.
